Hello everyone

I just would like to know if anyone here has bought that laptop? Apparently it's quite new and I couldn't find any reviews online so it'd be great if someone can help me here. I spent some time with it yesterday but I need to know if there's any specific issues with the laptop.

Thanks

Shouldn't you be the one offering the specifications and review? tongue.gif

Not sure about exact figures, but i7 runs circles around A8, and likewise for your other comparisons.

AMD's APU are designed for more GPU performance at a slightly lower CPU performance, and using less power compared to the Intel Core processors.

Haha nice one. Well I spent less than 10 minutes on the laptop so couldn't say much. I especially like the matte screen though. Here's the spec:

The Samsung Series 5 535 13.3-inch (1366x768 resolution) laptop sports an AMD dual-core A6-4455M APU clocked at 2.1GHz, Radeon HD 7500G graphics, 4GB of DDR3-1333 memory (supports up to 8GB), 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive, 1.3MP webcam, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GbE LAN, HDMI output, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a single USB 3.0 port, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Taken from here

A6-4455M is considered as "high mid range CPU" according to here : http://www.cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html

It's really attractive at RM1899...

Added on July 27, 2012, 4:45 pmIn terms of looks and build quality the laptop is very similar to Samsung Series 5 with Intel processors. Here

This is a review of Samsung Series 5 (Intel) by Engadget if anyone is interested.

A small review of the Samsung NP535U3C A01 thumbup.gif

1. Great screen, the anti glare is really good, so far no eye strain at all.

2. Nice touchpad and keyboard, good built quality.

3. Battery life around 5 hours with wifi, charging from 5% to 95% about 2 hours 10 mins.

4. Bottom warm when using or during charging.

5. Benchmark Street Fighter IV average 30 fps rank D.

6. So far so good, highly recommended.

7. Samsung website don't have this model in their warranty section, anyone knows how to register the warranty?

Samsung is utterly stupid. It happened to me when I got myself an LED TV which is a new model. It seems that they do not update their F****NG website. vmad.gif

Anyway, hope you could do us a full review. thumbup.gif

My personal preference would be Navotech (used to be at Landmark but now I think they moved to Danga City Mall (DCM) ) but I don't know if they sell this laptop. I cannot remember the name of the shop that I went to see the laptop but it's also in DCM.

check the ultrabook thread

actually did talk about it

btw its fast without ssd to boot. supposedly some trinity thing

the only con for the laptop that i can find
no vga dongle included.

its very good for watching movie and seems to outscore intel hd4k.

U need to enable the fast boot in utilities. after that it will boot damn fast like 1 bar on windows 7. all this with a 5400 rpm 500gb hitachi drive.

It has a wifi 2 mimo. So u will connect for tx,rx at 300mbps. Wifi range average.

the dual core on it is sufficient enouhg for office apps, presentation, movie etc. Gaming personally i dont think so. Samsung has a quite mode that will seriously make the laptop dead silent.

Added on July 31, 2012, 9:26 amcurrent offer is RM1899 with a free microsoft arc mouse worth rm109.

i bought from samsung direct in lyp
and a friend of mine bought in digital mall. the sales guy wanted to give him a logitech mouse so beware. the arc mouse offer is direct from samsung themselves.

warrantty i got the samsung guy to do it for me. same prob as the printer scx3405 . their website doesnt have.

Added on July 31, 2012, 9:32 amlast con. for itunes playback of 720p and 1080p on native quicktime for m4v.

there was stuttering. since vlc had no issue.. this issue has always been motherboard driver for the sata issue. updated to the latest one and then no prob.

btw never off ultrabooks. just close the lid. it will enter a higher level of hibernation thanks to the ulv and cpu states. 2 sec boot up is awesome. and yup it takes around 20 secs from total cold boot. on resume boot ( after long hour it will store all the boot from mem to the hdd) takes about 10 sec.

I did try to search at the ultrabook thread but to no avail. Imma noob.

Thanks very much for your feedbacks. This would be a perfect laptop for me if it has a backlit keyboard but at RM1899/RM1800 one should not complain lol.

Btw what kind of adapter do you need for the VGA to work? Mini-VGA to VGA?

Previous experience always get a notebook approved. U dont want it to fail during presentation in board meetings

So got a hp adapter. Cost rm 150. Got it from hp in lyp.Samsung has but have to order. Rm109 i think. The 530 series comes with and so does my 9 series.

Btw if the bluetooth cannot be disabled with the wifi on. When u use eco mode without wifi and bluetooth. Ure power consumption drops to half. I hit 9 hours the other day doing some office stuff under samsung optimzed setting.
U can check power consumption in samsung utilities

This laptop is cheaper i think cause it doesnt need a ssd to boot. Amd trinity tech takes cares of it.

Oh yeah another con.
The embedded ram inside is 4gb but ure cpu takes 512mb for its gc. So left 3.5gb. It runs in single channel only.
But on. Bright note. Its enough mem actually since its dual core and u wont be running anything mem intensive.
I installed the other 4gb.

9 hours?! Impressive.

I think it's safe to say that for RM1899 there is no better alternative out there, is it? Thin, light and decent performance for normal usage.

Since when does AMD trinity have the fast-boot function that enables it to boot faster compared to a similar Intel powered laptop?

Can anyone provide me a link to some reading on that? Can't seem to find anything on it.

Back on topic, Samsung's screen bezel is real nice. More manufacturers ought to use matte material for the screen bezels instead of glossy and easily scratched plastic mad.gif

have u actually tried googling and reading credible sites like anandtech and not by some silly blog idiot that i wont trust my screwdriver with.

theres actually quite a number of forums been talking about it.

personally i think its something to do with the embedded ram on the board.

My major needs is doing programming, office applications, and web srufing. And I want matte (non reflective) screens.

good multitasking ability is a must as I normally open many programs at one time, whereas my graphics requirement is not too high as those gamers. My budget is 1500 - 2500. My questions are:

1. Would there be big difference between Series 3 & 5?
2. Would there be big difference between Intel & AMD chips used on these Samsungs?
3. Which model would suite me best?
I'm comparing it to Asus N56VZ which has 15'6" Matte screen, only that it's a little pricey at 2600+.

Big thank you to all...

yeah i left out that one, as i only looked at intel cpus. for this samsung + amd combo, besides a short startup time, is it on par with those i5 systems in terms of multitasking performance? off course, games are not included...

And yes, we do provide Samsung laptops at a price cheaper than any of you can get in the market (props to being the Master dealer). smile.gif You guys can call me Mike. I am quite experienced when it comes to Samsung products and Ultrabook is my main sales.

Samsung is a good price for quality brand. As a seller, I dare say that Samsung screen is one of the best among many Ultrabook. And if you are talking about battery life, samsung is one of the TOP 3 among the ultrabook list. Of course price for price, you will get better graphic cards and so on. smile.gif

Hi i just bought this model last week.
-Its design is superb, rclxms.gif
-really thin
- full metal body
-Spec is good compared to other intel ultras
-and the speaker is really loud. drool.gif

I bought it from low yat and the price is around 1700-1800 but you can get it even lower if you're good bargainer.

But sadly I have a problem with my notebook. icon_question.gif The battery couldn't be charged more than 79-80% max even if i charge more than 8 hours.

-Does anyone xperiencing this problem too? I've requested for cyber service repair but it's taking like forever for them to reply...

^check the samsung application, most likely activated the battery protection, which limit the charge to 80%.

Yeah problem solved. The settings called battery life extender. Overall i'm satisfied with this notebook. With its aluminium body and slim size, it's very portable.

But from what i read, Samsung n AMD got alot of flak and negative reviews for the notebook and processor. Revwers said that it does not stand toe-to-toe with intel. But from the price, it seems like a good buy.

i just bought one last sunday. this will be a secondary laptop so im not too worried about the low-end A6 processor.

i got the brown (it's not ugly as it is on photos, pretty nice actually IMO) one for rm1849. i stand by my previous post, this is definitely the best laptop for the price. sure you can get an i3 laptop at this price, but you don't get the same build quality and slim profile.

screen is okay but the viewing angle is terrible. keyboard is not bad. trackpad is one of the best i've used on a windows machine (still not as good as my MBP). 2 finger scrolling works well as long as u 'press' hard enough. i like the smooth trackpad texture compared to those plastic-sticky type most laptops come with.

it came with A LOT of bloatware (or maybe that's just how windows machine are these days?). first thing i did upon arriving home was to take out the HDD and put it into my MBP to install a fresh copy of win7, while scratching off all those stickers that "adorn" my new machine.

no comments about the performance yet. now installing windows8 smile.gif

Just got this notebook. Like everyone said, its a great machine, video is really good. Even 1080p HD is very watchable. Streaming videos also no prob.

Except one strange thing, when I'm charging the battery, and watching video, cpu usage immediately shoots up. Hits 100% most of the time, and the video becomes really jerky and unwatchable. When unplug the charger, cpu usage goes to about 50% to 60%, and everything's great again. When I stop the video, cpu usage immediately drops to below 10%, even when charging. When battery is fully charged, charging auto cuts off, and no problem to watch. This is something to do with the AMD chip, I have another notebook i5 machine, when watching videos cpu never goes beyond 15%.

Of course I can just live with it, just that sometimes after work, battery is low and I want to watch something, but not enough juice to complete a movie. Can be annoying, have to charge first before can watch a movie.

Anyone else who bought this experienced it? Any way of getting around it?

Added on November 18, 2012, 12:18 amJust found out that when battery is charged to 86%, the problem disappears, ie, cpu usage becomes normal again...

Any guru out there can explain and provide a solution?

When I played a video, i think its vlc that brings it up to 100% - in windows task manager I can see it is the number under "CPU" that goes up when i plug the power cord in. When streaming, it is the chrome processes that suddenly spike up when power cord plugged in.
