Got offered for a 5k job back home. Is 5k RM for a civil engineer consultant job in East Malaysia consider normal? 6 years exp. Currently working overseas and Malaysia in and out but looking for opportunity to be full time back home.

I'd says it's kinda low. but considering it on the east, my manager fren is only getting 7k last year with 10 years exp. So maybe that's the rate there?
*
Ya the pay there a bit low, like normal rate already, still looking around for the pay rate. Thanks! icon_rolleyes.gif

How much is the paycut that we are talking here?
Well, earning SGD n then to come back, definitely will need paycut...
assuming it's 2.4, 3k salary in Singapore will give u an equivalent of RM 7.2k already
most companies here will argue that the living expenses here is lower, blah blah blAH...
*
More than 50% pay cut if consider the exchange rate. The salary number also can't match in my hometown and current pay. Poor place...

Any construction engineers (specifically M&E) here, in their early 30s earning more than 10k/month?
I'd like to get some feedback on how to achieve this....

Converted to RM or not? Converted should be no problem?

If employee then managerial position. For contractor side - project manager, operation manager, technical manager etc etc.

If own boss then work harder.

In kepong, m&e company. I tried for developer company but most of them want degree in civil..that's why i'm asking in your company they will consider degree in m&e or not for cns or site engineer position..
*
General buildings mostly c&s. Plants and factories maybe m&e more weightage.

yeah, but still they will need M&E ppl
about 30% of the job is still M&E
*
M&E should be 2 ppl leh. Why they combine together ah? C&S also.
C, S, M, E. 4 different field.

Next time developer want cut cost C&S combine with M&E become CSME, one people do all...

Sometimes, i feel technicians are undervalued
and ppl think their job is not important...
to me, it is damn important and they are the key people
the engineers only do the design and resolve the issue, but it's down to the technicians to actually do the work
so technician, although the name is not as glamorous as an engineer, is as important as an engineer
sometimes even more important than the engineer
*
Everyone in the team have their own part to play ba, no one should think themselves the key or more important because the roles are different. Client get money, project manager run project, architect and engineers design, technician troubleshoot, labourer construct, lastly consumer demand and pay for the end product. Everyone also key, take out one, nothing come out.

It baffles me why those 4.0 CGPA students are wanting to go to medic.. if it is not money, what else? So, if the money isn't good,
it makes no sense why they rush in, right? I understand the doctor job is tough.. seeing all those sick people and if you have to do surgery, you have to see all the nasty stuff too. The job needs to pay well for them poor doctors.
*
Because they know sick patient need them and no people can do a better job than them.

Want to be treated by a 0.1 CGPA doctor or not?

yeah true dat.
im always looking around, but if my workload is too heavy for now,i wouldnt be able to concentrate on my professional accounting qualification exams
there is this malay proverb ''bersusah-susah dahulu,bersenang2 kemudian'' (english translation suffer 1st,enjoy in the future.later) which is suitable to describe my salary/monetary situation now

let see in a month time.mathematically i should be able to save around $50-100 after deducting all expenses.another thing is i dont have a car for the time being,so i save on petrol, toll, parking, installment, insurance, etc that is associated with car. that keeps me staying afloat for now
yesterday saw a car expo, for a 84k car the insurance is 2k,how insane is the insurance rate now! shakehead.gif
i suppose myvi insurance would also be in the range of 800-1000? hmm.gif

not going to happen! the max payscale for this position is only 2k.only the next level max payscale is 3.5k

You need to really see it will be paying off in the future when you need it after getting your professional cert. Since you have no commitment now so its ok, but when the reality starts to kick in, you will be hanging half way. One overlook in a single step and what you doing now all meaningless. I been through your stage. At first people will comment on your low pay, should choose a higher salary job etc. Just follow your own thinking, you not living to satisfy others but yourself. Ya the reward is good in the future but you need a lot of determination and patient because you cannot fail.
