actually if car become very cheap, i think loan tenure will be shortened to max 5 years and increase in interest rate let alone petrol/etc.

it doesnt mean that those driving cheap car now can afford better car if car price decrease.

so no point blaming this and that.

me for one will not buy a korean... their legs are weak and totally not suitable for me...

What I mean is .......envy is referring to the person I replied i.e. why did I get civic? (when he saw someone else driving K3). He should follow what he like rather than follow what other people think.

I do not know and can't verify the prices in US for outgoing Forte and new K3 model.

However, I disagree on your notion that Naza is pricing the car higher simply because of greed.
The price increase in the new Cerato (K3) is justified as Naza has incorporated the following new specs, which are not found in the current Forte. Let's look at the 1.6L model for this study

1) New Dual CVVT Engine
2) Flex steer with 3 driving modes
3) Puddle lamp, pocket lighting
4) 6 airbags
5) Auto Cruise
6) Rear seat aircon vent
7) Motor Driven Power steering
8) Chrome belt line molding
9) Sliding center armrest
10) 4.2 inch dot matrix instrument cluster
11) 10 way power driving seat
12) Memory seat
13) Dual mode aircon
14) improved aerodynamics with rear under cover and air deflectors
15) Improvement in NVH, high noise absorption padding
16) Vehicle Stability Management

All these and numerous other improvement/enhancement to the body and class leading technologies which are even too technical to explain.  Can we seriously ask for all these features and yet expect Naza to sell at the same price as Forte?

Agree with you on the 1.6. But 2.0? Specs are about the same. Whatever the case, I still think Naza should increase it gradually....not on the spot 10-20%. They should ride on the gaining popularity of KIA. I do think a lot of those thinking of K3 now might rethink due to the steep price increase which also put it about the same with other competitor price (that have already strong foothold). So I'm keeping fingers cross, the price will be lower that the estimated range.

Unless they r allowed to rebadge it under NAZA or else that the price for the car, even in other country price of Korean car r only marginally lower than Japanese rival, so don't expect current Forte price range for KIA badge.
Still I think it is only fair if all this tax evasion by rebadge under local logo should stop, if the country keep on giving tax rebate surely more additional "Tax" will be imposed to the public as general, which I think is unfair, I mean why should we give special treatment to Korean car ? A we sponsoring south Korea economy with our tax payer money ?

Come on SA, those are the improvement that need to be done by KIA when every 5 years refresh. If no improvement done on new model, how KIA going to sell their new model car? It cannot be use as a sole reason to jack up the price so much

I've been in the new K5. They try pretty hard to mimic a continental, but it falls way short. It's definitely got the looks though. Now although I haven't been in the K3 Cerato, I really don't expect that it would give you that conti-feel either. I'll be rather surprised if they can do it and price it under 110k.

The closest continental-like car from the mass market Japanese/Korean to me right now is the new Mazda 6, but that car also falls short in many areas.
*
You can check the size of the Multi-link in Mazda 6, its a quality one comparable to conti makes. K5 multi-link, the bone size is smaller and at the same time, they build their cars like in between Japanese and conti therefore they don't get close to conti. The K3 Cerato and Elantra, if they are fitted with Multi-link instead of torsion beam, it might get you somewhere nearer to conti. Also, depends on how willing are they to give you the more expensive, bigger and heavier multi-link bone. Doing so could end up getting less interior space.

Comparing Lancer '07 and Forte '09 that are sharing the same platform. The Forte has slightly more space inside due to torsion beam and it has 2650mm wheelbase compared to 2635mm in Lancer. The weight difference is evident too. Kerb weight Lancer 2.0GT 1380kg, Lancer 2.0GL 1330k while Forte 2.0L at 1293kg, that explains where the Lancer gets the additional kerb weight. That is in the rear to give it better handling by increasing more weight to the rear to counter the front.

You are not envy of Korean makes. More like having eyesore over Korean makes success.

If you don't know, Toyota look at Hyundai-Kia more of a threat than Honda because Hyundai-Kia are proven reliable and durable on hot harsh weather and road condition. Today you can find Toyota and also Hyundai-Kia on Arabs, African, West Asia soil because only these cars could sustain the harsh condition with minimal maintenance. There are always the less gadget LX and EX grade models available that could serve you well over 10 years. However, locals here mostly wanted as much gadgets as possible therefore they bring in only the high and ultra high specs in.

Toyota nowadays don't even bother Nissan and Honda as they are considered inferior. Mazda is another new threat that have superior tech. Wonder what you mean on weak legs? Tie rod and lower arm of suspension?

Since new K3 is priced higher, Forte RV is safe and will become stronger than ever. In US, EU, AU, the price range is set for A, B, C, D segments. New models will sell under that range, won't increase unless there's inflation. Over here, new FaceLift auto increase RM2k. New model add RM5k to RM10k more. If priced too close to P1 under protection policy, penalty increase another RM10k. Ofcourse, when price being forced to increase, car company get to share some too.

im doing my thesis in ship power plant and am quite surprise cause most of big logistic company nowadays more prefer to hyundai diesel engine and genset rather than known wartsila and man engine. eventhough founded just for the last 4 years, it gained quite a popularity nowadays.. i dont see y korean cannot beat japanese one day.
