by the way. it's quite normal.
ijan's headphone broke that place too. then he sell to me. and it does give him a good reason to upgrade.... and until now.. he has HD595.. and some new toys is comming. lol.

he sound suddenly change. bass tamed down slightly, not as fat, and all treble comes out. and now even more treble compare to ksc75.. ksc75 is like slightly blured compare to the fully burned hp890. i compare it once again , the burned hp890 and my own almost new hp890 and found they sound different.. =)
both also sound good of course.

i got 3 pair of hp890 and 3 pair of ksc75. both comparing give the same result. so i assume there's no experimental error occur.
with stock cable. the sound is quite dark. but have better bass. but with canare cable. hehehe i gurantee u can't tahan the treble if you turn it really loud.

naruto_kun one, but both side broken off, and got some plastic part missing, therefore even i fix it, can still see the skeleton of the headphone... =P

tend to buy it as spare part. (and original cable, as the second pair of my hp890 does not comes with ori cable, i need ori cable to watch DVD on TV. can't afford to made canare cable which is 4 Meter... =P, watch movie cheap cheap already can lah..)

how ever, when i got it, i some how think i can fix it..
now still buying parts, and will want another things comes before i actually start to fix it...

Iriver T30 is just a portable MP3 player right? It could drive HP890? I've tried HP805 with my PDA and the sound sucks. I got to amp it with PA2V2.

I have to agree with yrh as the Grado sound signature is very 'special', more so if you went up to the hill, the acoustic created between your ears are just memorable. If you are able to create a similar signature, congrats, and you can write email to Grado and tell them to create a new model using the more comfortable HP890 model.
I too also cant differentiate SR60, SR125 and SR80. They sounded too similar. Just SR125 has slightly brighter signature. I asked the shop and they claimed that after the burn in the sound signature will evolve and matured. Which I am quite believe so, as the shop's SR60 sounds better than SR125 (new set )! Plenty of burn in potential these Grados has.
As for SR225 and higher, they can be easily differentiated. 225 has 'rock-ier' sound and 325 is just bleeding bright/but nice clarity.

yeah,8900 is the replacement for 895.i think for RM200,its a very very good buy.and i am a proud owner of 1
