Got an 895 from ferox (Who's a really good chap btw). I find it to be really good! And it's nice to be able to pin point locations of the sound. I've never really tried anything else on the same level...So all I can say is that I love it! biggrin.gif

The base is just nice and nothing is over done ( I used to be a base head...But after noticing all the details I've missed with base, I sorta grew up tongue.gif)

one headphone = philip, many many headphone = philips

You mean burnt tongue.gif As it is, I've spent far too much on headphones and the likes sweat.gif And it's not even audiophile level yet! shocking.gif If I continue like this, die liao. Gotta start working then only buy all this stuff tongue.gif

Er...Isn't the brand philips? So be it one or many, it'll still be philipS right? Hehe tongue.gif

Sigh. Even as it is, my ears are somewhat sensitive to horrible sounding earphones/headphones. And stupid bitrates. Before this, 128 was fine for me...Now...Sigh...It's a boon and it's a bane at the same time. Slightly more sensitive ears but you burn a whole in your pocket tongue.gif

Oooook....My level of respect for thedoctor just shot out the roof!

Haha tongue.gif I however, do not mod anything. Just buy whatever's available and...Well enjoy it as it is! Modding is too dangerous for my shaky hands. Never could solder well laugh.gif

But...That's why we have ppl like him and eokboy to help us produce stuff we can't! biggrin.gif

Gotta love em for it smile.gif

God I'm so blur. I was listening to Snow in The Sahara just now...And was wondering why does my left side sound kinda soft.. I was like, oh man- I just got it and it's acting up?

AND THEN

I checked the connection. Apparently my nephew loosened it when he wore it sweat.gif

So back to audio bliss now biggrin.gif

Heh. I should thank supazta for asking that question. Was wondering myself on what I should get tongue.gif

Waiting for Eokboy to finish his (soon to be mine!) Class AB. No idea how well it'll make my 895 sound. I'm no where near audiophile level though, so not sure if I'd be in heaven or not tongue.gif But as it is, I'm loving the 895! biggrin.gif

She should first work on the source smile.gif If she plays through those integrated sound card of her laptop, it surely doesn't have the power to drive HP1000.

Most improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805) + headamp
Significant improvement : buy a headamp
So-so improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805)

I was using HP895 + thedoctor's Sijosae headamp class AB too. And yes, it will surely give you good improvements. I was planning to write a full review biggrin.gif (in a noob way) after I get everything run in for a while.. I only used the amp for less than 8 hours so far...

QUOTE(PcWork @ Jun 6 2006, 07:33 PM)
i was considering another possiblities which will be :
Significant improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805)
So-so improvement : buy a headamp
if she bought an headamp, she still powering it on AC97 (notebook soundcard) so it will make sound loud only, as the output by ac97 is already quite low quality.
i still thinking, if she using her HP1000 with PC805, it might sound better as pc805 have enough power to push it.

Second the PcWork's "significant improvement" biggrin.gif

Whoah. That's a heck of a lot of information there. I'm assuming that I should apply all these eventhough it's only an 895?

I'm gonna be getting my amp soon, and wld be using it primarily with a fourth gen iPod when I'm out and about (probably with my portapro/75's- you guys think I should get an SR60 instead?)

And if not, I'd be hooked on to my lappie - which only has an integrated soundcard.

So y'all think that a soundcard would make a really big impact? Or wld an amp only suffice. I don't think I'm at the audiophile level...Merely slightly above the average person.

and wondering, why not ask them all hailed audiophiles attend something like a research conference or research seminars instead?
maybe some of the worlds greatest audiophiles should attend the upcoming LAC2007 - the 5th International Linux Audio Conference which will be held in Technical University Berlin and tell the world of their subjective rave comments.

i'm sure they will be hundreds of Professors, Associate Professors, PhD holders and experienced Engineers attending his time-slot. and that it will be bombarded with all sorts of questions by briliant minds that WILL see even the slightest of weak-point and attack on that, until you're speechless. rclxub.gif

Well imho, I think someone would be hard pressed to refute fact-based graphs as opposed to this-is-just-what-I-feel. However, more oft than not, ppl tend to believe in the latter- usually because of heresay (which I'm ashamed to be victim to once tongue.gif). The brain is a powerful tool. What you believe in will be taken as the truth smile.gif

But heck, not like those "noise" affect my listening anyway-I'm seriously (without sarcasm) not an audiophile smile.gif

QUOTE(coolfella @ Jun 25 2006, 01:28 AM)
hey guys,

wanna ask, is the hp895 good for techno?
my bro likes techno and dance music, been playing o2jam very frequently lately, and he is using my SR80!! it hurts  sweat.gif
and recently he loves to use headphones rather than his altec lansing. so thought get him a headphone.

used the hp805 before and of course i wouldnt wanna buy back the same one for him, and furthermore i kinda like the hp895  thumbup.gif
*
I don't quite agree with the rest lah. I think the 895 is wasted on techno. laugh.gif Coz it doesn't quite shine imo. The 895 to me is more for jazz, live concerts, movie-watching and stuff that sounds better with some sort of sound staging. And clarity.

I tried techno on the 895 and...I didn't go "whoah!" or anything like that. Merely. Oh, that's nice laugh.gif

I guess the sr60 is still a better choice, or if you want head thumping action with a really cheap price, you can go for the portapro! It's not so earpiercing like the ksc75.

At least that's what I think biggrin.gif

what about this question instead: is the hp895 a balance combination of jazz, clarity AND techno?
because me myself sometimes wanna use it too for some jazz and movie for myself, for a change from SR80.

Well if you rephrase it as such...Yeah it's not that bad. It's just that other headphones would perfomr better laugh.gif The bass just isn't enough for techno somehow. But it's ok. Still sounds good.

i kinda like the hp805 design and comfort, but i know the hp895 aint as comfortable as the hp895 but i guess it would be nice.

Dude? laugh.gif Well some have said that the 805 is more comfortable. I can't really say, I only have the 895 tongue.gif

hahaha, have an SR80 already, don wanna buy another Grado from that range.
if i were to get another Grado, it would be something like SR325i and above  thumbup.gif

Ouch to your wallet. Haha laugh.gif

portapro huh? will test it out if im possible to get my hands on one of those. how much roughly is the price of portapro?
prefer a full size headphone actually whistling.gif .

Hm..I got one. If you stay anywhere near ampang, maybe I can let you try my pair. Price? About RM 155 from Sri Com in Low Yat. However, the portapro is pretty bass heavy, and details tend to get a bit muddled. So bear that in mind. I wouldn't say it's the most balanced headphones around. Though it's pretty portable (unlike the 805/895).

hp890? or hp895? the hp890 is still better?
where cna i get my hands on the hp890 if i want?

Well according to mike, and the review he gave in his bulk thread, the 890 only shines if it's amped. And the 895 doesn't benefit that much from amping (I'm gonna concur-I didn't feel that much of a difference, or perhaps it's only coz I'm using a ClassAB. I honestly dunno if that's the reason or it's just my ears aren't sensitive enough laugh.gif ). I'd say get the 895 for the stand! Haha tongue.gif And the fact that you can run it without an amp and it still can sound good.

Where can you get it? Not sure of shops. I've never seen it in shops sweat.gif You could try mike or davis. They both sell it.

There. laugh.gif I find it easier replying like that biggrin.gif

1) bass aint enough to enjoy techno eh? hmmm  whistling.gif
To me at least. Not enough head thumping tongue.gif

2) hahaha i meant the hp895 aint as comfortable as the hp805 that i had before, typo  sweat.gif
laugh.gif I figured. Yeah I'm guessing that's the case. The 895 can sorta "clamp" on your head

3) yeah man, it really hurts not only the wallet, but the bank account!  sweat.gif
Then stop buying tongue.gif

4) sadly i stay very far away from you, in Subang, hahaha, so guess i wont be trying out your portapro. but for RM155, i wouldnt get the portapro, i don like how it looks  icon_idea.gif
I actually like how it looks. Retro-ish biggrin.gif

5) hahaha, you read my mind, i want the stand!!  thumbup.gif . me too ordered a class AB from eokboy, and it will look EXACTLY like yours, hahaha.  sweat.gif
Haha tongue.gif Man, we can't go out together with the same rig. Else we'd look so damn gay! Hahah tongue.gif Hmm...Now that gives me and idea laugh.gif

6) they still sell the hp890? i thought they only sell the hp895? will ask them though.
- and i'll reply this way, hahah  thumbup.gif
Oh right...Not so sure. Get the 895! Got stand! tongue.gif

What will you be using it for? More for movies/gaming/music?

Are you a bass head? Or would you preffer clarity over booming bass?

Is it for portable use or is it for home usage?

How many hours would you have it on?
