if u willing to folk out 300 USD for what u can get with RM 50
go ahead, sound wise. own built one might have slight different, but IMHO not far.
and i never tested HA-1. what i know is cmoy is mimic the HA-1. and even using same parts.
all the parts can be obtain from jalan pasar. except the  opamp. for that try to contact bsl555. he might got some.

i sense that some one is trying to overtake my position of owning most HP890... lol

Just wanted to add this in about the SHP895.

I've been using it for more than a year maybe nearly reaching 2nd year.

The sound is nice. But then bass might need a little getting used to. If I remember correctly compared to my friend's HP890, the sound is more or less the same but SHP895 might sound harsher a bit.

Now the bad news :-
1) The springs are very strong and it will clamp your head real tight. Your skull might get sore after 30 mins usage. (or maybe i got big head la i dono  ) HP890 is much more comfortable.

2) The very bad news is the engineers didn't do a very good job on the design of the plastic parts. Because every time you take your headphones on and off, you tend to stretch it wide a bit before putting it on your head or taking it off. The plastic parts will be stressed. Mine has already snapped on the right hand side on the left it has chipped already. All other plastic parts are showing stress marks.

So my advice is. Treat your SHP895 VERY VERY VERY gently. You can't stress it at all. Otherwise it just won't last.

well. different ppl prefer different things i must say.
i once have my money ready for a HD600.
but end up i didn't buy it.
yet i end up spending on speaker and some audiophile disc.
since ourself have full control of my bank account, i think it's best that ourself decide how to spend my money according to my preference and taste. =P
for me, i don't think that somethings that more expensive will definitely be better.
most important it suit my life style, and i can afford it, and most important, i like it.
nothings to explain why i buy so many this and that.
hard to tell which is correct way of spending money actually.
LAH0S once audit AEGO M, and he fu*ked the speaker hard time, and for him, MX5021 is better. well i can accept that. everyone have different preference.  most important is he spend his money happy and feel worth it. =)

I don't get it why you want to relate me and my AKG. You're going balanced with your HP890, and basically you need a balanced source and a balance headamp as well. They gonna cost significantly much more than your 890s

HP890 with SR80 drivers?

Now this is really interesting. I wonder, why mod the 890 to resemble other headphones? Its like modding the K701 to sound like the HD650... in fact why not just get the HD650?

From my experience, the Beyer DT990 and SR80 have really good bass impact. The Beyer is more balanced, as the SR80's bass sometimes covers up the mids. Care to explain what mods done on the 890 and also how it resembles the SR80?

so now the HP890 sounds like a SR80 with soundstage? Honestly i still don't get the "sounded like a SR80" part; are you saying the modded 890 has very forward sound, heavy and impactful bass, and no soundstage at all?

And seeing the HP890 hype until someone is selling them for RM350, the price difference between the 890 and SR80 is actually less than RM30

you sounded sarcastic don't you? I own the SR80 for quite some time and i got used to its sound signature (since i'm in front of my PC for over 12 hours/day, life as a programming student is tough). Moreover Grado has a very distinct and unique sound signature; so the sonic differences were obvious when it comes to comparison with other headphones. But if you ask me to compare SR80 to SR125 or 225, i don't think i can differentiate them easily.

@naruto_kun, it is modded 890 that sounds like a SR80, confirmed by iahos, CooLeRthings, and Hanxz.

Each can have their own unique sound signature. However, I love how guitar sounded in grado.

But hearing them saying the modded hp890 sounded like sr80 really really makes me curios. I wonder what kind of changes had been made to make the hp890 sounded similar. Because I used to own hp890, and if i remember well they don't sounded similar at all ( Assuming the sr80 sounded like the ms1 with less bass; I have not heard the sr80 before)

I've heard the modded HP890 as well. I won't say its similar to SR80. The modded HP890 presented better highs than the unmodded ones, recessed mids and punchy bass with an appropriate amount of soundstage.  While for me, the SR80 is just bright everywhere. Everything sound so upfront.
