She should first work on the source smile.gif If she plays through those integrated sound card of her laptop, it surely doesn't have the power to drive HP1000.

Most improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805) + headamp
Significant improvement : buy a headamp
So-so improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805)
*
hurmm..this is exactly what i wanted to know..
but PSC805 is rm210...add another rm12 get a pav2v...

i was considering another possiblities which will be :
Significant improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805)
So-so improvement : buy a headamp

if she bought an headamp, she still powering it on AC97 (notebook soundcard) so it will make sound loud only, as the output by ac97 is already quite low quality.
i still thinking, if she using her HP1000 with PC805, it might sound better as pc805 have enough power to push it.

it actually depends on ur needs. not everyone can sense the difference.

if u ar an audiophiler, yes. u should aim quite high. a decent soundcard and an amp is a must

hehe well ok, maybe PSC805 has better DAC to play with, but it'll still be somewhat flat without a headamp. To me, the transition of sound card isn't really bringing as much improvement to my ears. If you have a laptop with integrated sound card and PSC805, you can compare and let me know how you think too.

I am not a pro, so it's just my subjective opinion. Don't flame ya? biggrin.gif

Actually if you really want to know the difference, I am still selling my HP895. I will PM you later for price and details, it's basically not heavily used even though it's around 2 months old. You will like it smile.gif

I was using HP895 + thedoctor's Sijosae headamp class AB too. And yes, it will surely give you good improvements. I was planning to write a full review biggrin.gif (in a noob way) after I get everything run in for a while.. I only used the amp for less than 8 hours so far...

Whoah. That's a heck of a lot of information there. I'm assuming that I should apply all these eventhough it's only an 895?

I'm gonna be getting my amp soon, and wld be using it primarily with a fourth gen iPod when I'm out and about (probably with my portapro/75's- you guys think I should get an SR60 instead?)

And if not, I'd be hooked on to my lappie - which only has an integrated soundcard.

So y'all think that a soundcard would make a really big impact? Or wld an amp only suffice. I don't think I'm at the audiophile level...Merely slightly above the average person.

i owned headamp + pc805. for me
playing pc805 + 890 shows improvement a lot. it's more detail, less muffle.
playing it with AC97 have heavy and muffled bass.
and pc805 + basic cmoy + hp890 don't really shows different with PC805 + HP890
i guess pc805 is either :
1. has built in amp chip,
2. powerful enough to drive it.
and about the flat things... amp won't really kacau the sound flat or not, as it is not EQ. amp will only push those things such as bass/high treble nicer, as most player are not powerful enough to drive. if the player /soundcard is powerful enough, then it's has less/no problems on driving those things. so basicly with soundcard, it just push the sound more detail.
i got amp + pc805 + optoplay + hp890 (check my siggy) u can come over my place to test it.
and above statement were made according to my ear, my song, my gadget, and my "feeling" to the song.
=) enjoy ur music pals.
it's most important.
sometime, AC97 + she9500 still make me shake my head as i loved the music.

if those song crap, u give me senheiser HE90 also i won't enjoy lah.

and trust me, i set all my EQ off, all effect all, everythings OFF in listening to my song. =)
sort of enjoy the vocal also.

flatness in equipment ie frequency response...yes..but flatness in music/sound?...i don't think any audiophile wants that rclxub.gif

still prefer my amp having the tone control to cure some bad recordings.. wink.gif

the lossless audio source doesn't eat your wallet, at least
significant improvement can be noticed immediately with a headphone upgrade

then a good amplifier will help

only then you focus on your audio source and DSP

and when u have upgraded your DSP, ur headphone becomes the bottleneck, and u upgrade to better heaphones

and then the amp is obsolete, then u have to find a better amp

and the vicious cycle continues... wink.gif
i tell you, being an audiophile is like selling your soul to the devil
