It's already off but still it checks/updates
Friend told me samsung is like that, automatic check even though off.
My other android phones dont have this issue, when 'account and sync' is off, there is no auto checking. Even play store cannot use and app updates are off.

But S3 (samsung?) still checks and allows play store to start.

so although samsung s3 is better than the htc one x in terms of having a replacable battery (curious why htc didn't opt for this), but the samsung is also has an expiry on it's display which obviously is not going to be replacable either.

If the phone can physically last 5 years, i think that is a winner already 

Careful, if you "off" the notification, you will not be able to hear the notification sound for your SMS. Better to turn off wifi and set network to GSM only

The only "Green" is Notification and PowerSave mode the rest will be turned on upon needed.

My old trusted HTC Desire, on WIFI (when near wifi hotspot/home/office) has no major impact to it. This S3? dont know.... it will, not a lot, but will...

Can they? Ooooh, they sure can make aluminium unibody phones at the same price. But profits will be slim, and who wants that?

the prob is ,im studying in australia  and currently on a contract with vodafone. thinking of getting the  cheapest monthly plan in malaysia and ask my brother to pay for it.

can i use it with carriers here or that it will be sim-locked?
