if the custom ROM is developed based on stock ROM, then it will retain most of the features. only apps are removed, but are also easily installed back via .zip files.

CM10 is far from perfect. it's only a PREVIEW as they mention. nth to shout about it yet.

CM9 is good for other phones, but i don't really see the need of it for S3 cz the stock ROM itself is great.
further tweaks of stock ROM like the CheckROM and Wanam is better.
Omega has a lot of mods, don't really fit my taste. I'm currently using CheckROM.

I know you not ask me, just give my own opinion on this 3 popular custom base stock ROM.

I use CheckROM before, end up I like more on WanamLite ROM, both kind of similar but I find out WanamLite much smoother and update regularly.

Omega ROM  - too many tweak and none base on what I like. Also keep seeing here and there got  people post on compatibility issue with Omega ROM. That is the two main reason I not even plan to try on it.

We received a Phantip earlier this evening from a reader in Canada who’s Samsung Galaxy S3 prompted him of an update ready for his device. We now have a little more information on exactly what the update addressed. If you were fearing a dumbed down Google search app, it looks like your Spidey-sense was spot on. The 27MB over-the-air update brings the software version up to XXBLG6 and while it no doubt brings better stability, security and all that good stuff, it looks like it has removed local search from the device’s Google Search app.

From what I hear, it’s pretty easy to get back the old search app (for rooted users). But as it stands, Samsung and the Galaxy S3 are now officially safe from Apple legal action, although, I’m sure Apple lawyers are busy dissecting the device for new “infringements” as we speak.

You should at least use stock rom first to really appreciate difference with custom roms.

Try this for rooting your phone. Works much better and install SU and CWM for you too.

After that can use CWM to flash Wannam too.

Touch CWM has issues with flashing some zip packages (mostly themes).

Just get your phone before you try anything.. You'll be amazed that you can do lots of things out of the box without doing ANYTHING

Really. Use the phone first, to it's limits. Know what you want but can't have with stock firmware.

As for me I already know what I need so diff story lol. Straight away root + Wanam within a few hours of buying the phone.

Rooting is not magic. It will not GIVE YOU A BETTER PHONE if YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

Similarly to jailbreaking - which is simply getting root access for iPhones. But now people automatically associate jailbreaking = piracy.

The pre-installed allshare play wont work for dlna?

Any major difference with wanam1.8? Cause wanam1.8 is like uber smooth and without glitches thus far.
