if the custom ROM is developed based on stock ROM, then it will retain most of the features. only apps are removed, but are also easily installed back via .zip files.

CM10 is far from perfect. it's only a PREVIEW as they mention. nth to shout about it yet.

CM9 is good for other phones, but i don't really see the need of it for S3 cz the stock ROM itself is great.
further tweaks of stock ROM like the CheckROM and Wanam is better.
Omega has a lot of mods, don't really fit my taste. I'm currently using CheckROM.
any changelog?
*
sorry could you elaborate further regarding why you don't like omega vs wanam ?

I was looking at the omega, and the front interface seems to retain the stock interface which i like, and yet gives me the option to mod the device.

so now i'm stuck between omega and wanam's rclxub.gif

AndroidFan4's method of doing it seems a bit more complicated to do, so most likely not going to use his

Reasons for rooting?
- LBE Privacy Guard - Kind of like UAC on Windows 7 but for Android permissions.
- Bye bye crapwares (looking at you, S Voice)
- Better skinning/theming
- Custom ROMs - Each ROM brings its own unique set of tweaks
- Even better performance/battery life
- NTFS Support
- Market Enabler - for Apps that are not available in SG, e.g. Google Earth (alternatively, install the .apk files manually)
- Trying leaked stuff such as Google Now, new OS e.g. Jelly bean (only available for cm10 currently)
- Full backup

I know you not ask me, just give my own opinion on this 3 popular custom base stock ROM.

I use CheckROM before, end up I like more on WanamLite ROM, both kind of similar but I find out WanamLite much smoother and update regularly.

Omega ROM  - too many tweak and none base on what I like. Also keep seeing here and there got  people post on compatibility issue with Omega ROM. That is the two main reason I not even plan to try on it.
*
okay so for now i think i'll just trust you guys and try the stock first to get the feel, then install wanam.

whats odin ? and do i need it to install these roms ? hmm.gif

QUOTE
Mobile ODIN Lite is exclusively available on XDA.  You can find the pro version on the Android Market.  Now, Mobile ODIN Pro has a few extra perks that the regular, old ODIN doesn’t have.  For example, Chainfire includes EverRoot–an option that roots your ROM as you flash it.  With that, you can also automatically flash Superuser, and Mobile ODIN itself, so you’re all ready to flash again when you reboot your new ROM.

kk i found the guide sweat.gif looks ez enuff..

PS: how would i know the correct steps ? even on xda there are so many pinned threads it's confusing. even the wanan thread install guide, straight away jumps to install app, and doesn't even mention how to root or if you need to shocking.gif they have big assumptions everyone knows what needs to be done beforehand. but for a virgin android user, it's a bit alien like walking on mars for first time laugh.gif

Latest OTA update is just to remove local search feature in order to prevent Apple's patent infringement.  blink.gif

QUOTE
We received a Phantip earlier this evening from a reader in Canada who’s Samsung Galaxy S3 prompted him of an update ready for his device. We now have a little more information on exactly what the update addressed. If you were fearing a dumbed down Google search app, it looks like your Spidey-sense was spot on. The 27MB over-the-air update brings the software version up to XXBLG6 and while it no doubt brings better stability, security and all that good stuff, it looks like it has removed local search from the device’s Google Search app.

From what I hear, it’s pretty easy to get back the old search app (for rooted users). But as it stands, Samsung and the Galaxy S3 are now officially safe from Apple legal action, although, I’m sure Apple lawyers are busy dissecting the device for new “infringements” as we speak.

thkfully rooted s3 retains this feature nod.gif hopefully they mean that for future mod rom updates, they can still keep the feature as well.

You should at least use stock rom first to really appreciate difference with custom roms.

yeah tested it a bit already.

Try this for rooting your phone. Works much better and install SU and CWM for you too. smile.gif

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238

After that can use CWM to flash Wannam too.
*
but i already installed the odin + and recovery clockwork touch. so not sure how to roll back at this point shocking.gif shocking.gif

I need help how to add the wananlite to my internal sd. when i tried to do that via kies, it just says cannot because the file type cannot be played .... any idea ? all the guides i read just say add, but it doesn't say how, or any solution to this issue i mentioned icon_question.gif

Chill, relax brah... Get your phone, learn how it works, understand it...

Don't jump into wild guesses of what is what...

Android =/= iPhone

Just get your phone before you try anything.. You'll be amazed that you can do lots of things out of the box without doing ANYTHING

smile.gif

been watching all the reviews for the past week, so i got a good grasp what the phone does. only issue is getting the steps done since lots of small stuff is left unsaid assuming the user already knew what to do rclxub.gif

yes you will lose the samsung features, as custom rom is akin to reinstalling Custom ICS.

i didn't know you were a dev for it hmm.gif interesting.

any chance they will add touchwiz 5 gestures in the jelly bean cm10 build ? brows.gif

figured out how to add the zip file. go computer, open phone then drag drop .....

Really. Use the phone first, to it's limits. Know what you want but can't have with stock firmware.

Then Root.

As for me I already know what I need so diff story lol. Straight away root + Wanam within a few hours of buying the phone.

Rooting is not magic. It will not GIVE YOU A BETTER PHONE if YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

Similarly to jailbreaking - which is simply getting root access for iPhones. But now people automatically associate jailbreaking = piracy.

Similarly to the rooting now, people think rooting = piracy. Which makes me sad (considering you don't NEED root to steal anything, REALLY).
*
can SuperSU be added via the googleplay ? is installing that way different compared to installing it via root if that makes sense ? hmm.gif

because i already did the odin + cwm method to root. so to add superuser, i want to do via the webpage via the phone

any ideas how i can go about this ?

i've already used titanium backup. so whats the next step ?

i got odin and the cf-root ready to use, but i don't know if i can just flash to overwrite the cwm, or do i need to uninstall it somehow .... any advise ?
