As a Proton supporters, I would suggest you to not get that car. That is the $hittie$t Proton car. It's very problematic that you are going to throw it in few years. Better take myvi or viva

Spare parts cost more than the car if major breakdown. Be prepared to buy donor car and stock up.

Savvy AMT have the tendency to jerk when changing gears, even more so when you love to shift it manually.

As for the engine, it was sourced directly from renault, mind you it comes from the same source as waja 1.8 engine manufacturer, and many people know the waja 1.8 as the most problematic Waja version ever made.

As for the spare parts, they are expensive and hard to find..so the car will worth much less second hand and after the warranty expires.

Best buy if you still want a proton is to buy SAGA FLX, or just the basic BLM..very economical and spacious for a compact car.

im an savvy owner (bought it 2nd hand), if u re looking for savvy, buy the manual transmission, yes...Savvy has a lot of problem, but with a little effort to understand how the engine system works you'll know how to overcome the Savvy problem (saavy engine is diffence with traditional japan engine system)
in term of handling, stability, power(this one is subjective), FC, savvy can tapau myvi easily,

In terms of maintenance, spare parts and reliability, Myvi wins

In terms of driving, Savvy wins HANDS DOWN, trust me.

Myvi is only good cause it has good after sales, but really the handling of that car, its like driving with jelly tires

i too own a savvy...i do agree. buy the manual transmission...dont get the AMT ones. the AMT ones are totally crappy...
savvy uses a renault clio engine...but not sure what proton did with the current model la. I have the 2008 model and the engine is excellent..
handling and power is all depending on the condition of the car and how u maintain it.
If you planing to get a second hand manual, look for the 2005 models. those were the first batch of savvy that was TUV certified.

2nd price for Savvy is around 18k. Some of the parts cost over 4k. If major breakdown like engine or gearbox kaput, what do u think? Renault parts damn expensive and in some cases hard to find. If u want, better make sure u have friends driving it, be active in the club, make friends with conti mechanics and above all, check out some potong kereta junkyard for parts. Make friends with the tauke also.

yo bro

148 000 km ++ , ours 2005 model. How bout yours?

I heard some already had over 200k km.., some myvi's already reach 300k km? mau pecah that 300k km record lol.

Timing belt changed once...other normal wear and tear..

Only had problem 2, 3 - no big deal - DIY clean sensors...spark plug ignition coil localised part is only RM200, non detachable cables.

I only spent a lot on tyres and sport rims..for price that is more than RM500...is a funny thing when people said this car is high maintenance.

I'm now using 185/60/14 - cheap and widely avalaible..size is 3.9% larger....sport rims 6'' wide offset 38..after 100k km on 13''..

plan to use 195/50/15..one heck expensive size lol..cos not happy with the 14'' falken ziex 322.

My sis owns a Proton Savvy AMT H-line.

Good handling, good engine, good fuel consumption.

But the shitty AMT ruins everything.

It's knocking, it's not responsive (sometimes have to wait 2-3 secs after change transmission only can accelerate), and it's dangerous (esp on bukit because AMT not responsive).

So TS, get another car. BLM better.

I was a Savvy driver.

There is an inherent problem with the crank sensor that makes the ignition hard after a certain period of time. This degrading property will happen always despite cleaning it now and then.

Otherwise a good car.

In short, don't buy it.

Second generation (2008–present)
Second generation A second generation Proton Saga.

On January 18, 2008, Proton unveiled the successor to the 2007 Saga, which was planned to be phased out in June 2008. Retaining the Saga name, the new car is an indigenous design, designed to outperform and outengineer the old Saga compact sedan and aeroback in every way. Its bodywork is essentially based on a stretched Proton Savvy.

1) AMT Gear
Masalah: Gaer tak masuk, atau susah nak masuk.
Punca: AMT Pump/Accumulator/ECU failure.
Cara Pemyelesaian: Service AMT Pump/Tukar Accumulator/Tukar ECU or Reset ECU setting

2) Coil problem (Old Model)
Masalah: Kereta begerak dalam keadaan jerking (Tersengguk-sengguk).
Punca: Salah satu cable coil bocor.
Cara penyelesaian: Tukar kepada coil version baru jenis asing/potong dan sambung dgn coil iswara.

3) TCD @ Flywheel Sensor
Masalah: Susah nak start
Punca: TDC: Tip kotor/sambungan @ connection longgar - kedudukan nyer dibawah hose water radiator
Cara penyelesaian: Tukar TDC jenis baru/cuci tip sensor/solder diconnection TDC.

4) Power Steering Sensor
Masalah: Minyak power steering bocor @ meleleh di sebelah kanan / minyak akan berkurangan perlu di top up selalu
Punca: Bocor ditengah-tengah connection sensor.
Cara penyelesaian: Tukar sensor renault WAJA 1.8 or Renault Kangroo/boleh seal dgn silicone but on the performance x
sure.

5) Aircond Switch
Masalah: Patah
Punca: Klip tombol suis tak kuat cepat patah
Cara penyelesaian: Temperory boleh guna gam gajah, buat long term kena beli baru dan gantikan.

6) Speedo Meter
Masalah: Meter akan drop sendiri
Punca: Meter dah kondem/bergantung atas keadaan semasa, ada juga yang kena tak sampai 50K atau 3 Tahun.
Cara penyelesaian: Tukar baru.

good insight on the problems.
Had the problem 2,3,5,6

Those are all minor fix. The newer savvy dont have problem 2.

Saga's base chasis is made from Savvy la....only because the engine is local only.
those who said maintenance for the car is high are those who goes to proton and get ripped off la....

yo bro

148 000 km ++ , ours 2005 model. How bout yours?

I heard some already had over 200k km.., some myvi's already reach 300k km? mau pecah that 300k km record lol.

Timing belt changed once...other normal wear and tear..

Only had problem 2, 3 - no big deal - DIY clean sensors...spark plug ignition coil localised part is only RM200, non detachable cables.

I only spent a lot on tyres and sport rims..for price that is more than RM500...is a funny thing when people said this car is high maintenance.

mine 2005 with 90K, 1K KM a month only. i have other cars for long distance drives.
savvy shouldnt be a prob at 200k? will keep it longer then rclxms.gif
changed the timing belt at 60K something, too early isit? felt like kena con pulak doh.gif
back in 2007-2009 my car gives sooo many problems and felt regret. resale value also going down the drain. but now this 1-2 years suddenly so nice to drive and problem free rclxms.gif

*
wow.. u have tried 13 14 15".. whats the diff may i know? handling etc..

im curious of upgrading to 185 50 15 so that i can get to use michelin PS3 tyres.. is it possible with the current rims?
or better off with 185 60 14 and use Xm2 or CC5? as long as not the NCT5.

I don't mind buying second hand Savvy because the price is really cheap . But I buy the manual version . Savvy handling is better than Myvi .

Pros

Cheap price for 2nd hand
Super good FC, can compete with viva 1.0
1.2 renault engine, but performance is actually like a 1.4 and I've seen stock savvy doing 190km/h in Highway
Tough chassis and handling 999999999999999x times better than myvi or viva
Looks nice with r3 bodykit

Cons

Gearbox is problematic ( only apply to AMT version, normal manual is perfectly fine)
TDC sensor get dirty easily, need to clean it every month for best result ( you can learn to diy)
Cheap interior (its a cheap car anyway)
Cannot service at normal workshop, must go to conti shop or Proton sc ( the drivetrain is from renault)

I almost bought a savvy at the year 2009, that time the price is 14K for 2007 savvy manual, but then change mind and get 2ndhand neo instead since I can stretch budget

is there such size 185/50/15?..the reason i chose 185/60/14 is becos of cost and availability, still can get this tyre size at RM140 per piece...the 185/60/13 - the price expensive like a 195/50/15...yes I would love to try out xm2...i havent try hi speed with 185/60/14, the 13'' tyres had served me well, stable and could go to 180km/h.
