Hi guys, I'm quite interested in Guild Wars 2 but I have never play Guild Wars before, consider kind of fresh in this game. Since it is releasing on 28-8-2012, here's my few questions on this pre-release game.
Does it support SLI graphic rendering? Has Nvidia created a SLI profile for this game?
What is the current status? Any beta or anyone playing version?
Will everything wipe off and start from scratch on the first day of launch?
What is the file size of the game, approximately. Need to consider whether to get digital copy or slow-DVD-copy-delivery from TSB.
Which server to join and server location, latency?
I personally don't like a game that grind much, such as Diablo 3, that game is way too short and every day are playing the same quest and map. However I am not very sure about Guild War play style, I heard my friend say when it comes to the real "guild war" it will be server VS server, is that true?
1) Not sure
2) There are only Beta weekends and close beta. But they've all ended. Last was on July 20th-22nd. You can always watch youtube videos by gamer communities like IGN, Yogscast, gwbnc, etc. Those videos really help and always check wiki or reddit /r/guildwars2.
3) Start from scratch. Pre-purchased will get you 3 days headstart that's all. Everyone else start at 28th. Headstart or not, you start from scratch.
4) 15GB as of now (BWE3) official FAQ about requirements say to leave 25GB out. I'm guessing the game will be around 20GB or less.
5) Currently we (LYN & Friends) are sticking to the unofficial Oceanic/SEA server which is Sea of Sorrows. Server locations are all at US unless you join an EU server. Latency is US latency. I had pretty good latency even for a 1Mb line during BWE3 except for second night where the server has issue and even US players delay 9 seconds or so. US games usually have like 200-300 Latency but you wont feel the delay. But you feel it in SEA servers even if it's 60ms. Quality control. If you can afford, a proxy will always help in WvW and PvP.
D3 is a different game genre. So let's not compare here. Since because someone compared and caused havoc. But let's compare it to other MMORPGs that you need to grind.
No, this game does not require you to grind. You can either WvW (Server v Server), Craft, or PvE to level up 1-80. You can always have Fun PvPs too and Structured PvPs. Lv1-40 could be a little slow but I heard that lv40-80 is really fast. GW2 does not want the players to feel hard trying to level up. Instead they want players to get to lv80 fast (since there's not much progression on gears) then start wrecking havoc at world events or bosses. So from what I read, lv40-80 whatever you do gives you tons of EXP. I may be wrong but that's really something isn't it?
The only advice for you is, don't play it like how you would play other MMORPGs. There are no ! or ? on top of their heads to make you expect quests so talk to every NPC you can find. They trigger Dynamic Events. If anything close, the "Heart Events" in this game would be the "Quest" you follow as you explore. Bear in mind that lv1-20 is going to be a lil bit boring. As you unlock all weapon skill sets early and Utility Skills do not unlock that fast. But bear with the game till lv20. And learn to dodge always. Because level20 onward, the game gets a lil more challenging. And this game is different, the class you would play in every other MMO, MIGHT NOT be the class you should look for in this game. By any chance, try a new char if you feel boring.
The real "Guild Wars" if you look at the name, suggest much on Server vs Server. However, as a PvE-er I'd say rest assured. You can expect dragons and dungeon bosses that are challenging. But ANet did not really show any end game material yet. So either it's surprisingly good or it's gonna be a tad bit disappointed. Still I'm confident to say you wont regret buying this game. If you're a PvP guy, this is definitely a correct game for you. And WvW? is WAR.
TL;DR : No grind, different than other MMORPGs, PvE and WvW are both going to be awesome. Welcome to the hype.
