Yeah salvage kit is a little problem, (can we stack them, didn't tried). Can easily burnt hundred of them quickly.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kitLogically would be better to just stick to the cheapest one most of the time unless want to salvage anything above GREEN rank.
Can't stack them, I tried during BWE3. Good thing is personal story for my human warrior have salvage kits for rewards

Pro-tips for beginner!
Back in the stress test before BWE1. I was like standing beside copper-node,

for like 3 minutes, and spent 20 minutes looking for gathering tools around the map.

For me my warrior was holding an axe and I was standing next to a tree, my first though was, why can't I chop it with my axe lol. Yeah I was wondering where to get the tools as well until I found one of the crafting trainer that sells them.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting8 Crafting Discipline to choose from.
[Armorsmith, Leatherworker, Tailor] depending on your class, imo for convenience sake.
[Artificer, Chef, Huntsman, Jeweler, Weaponsmith]
It is said Chef is the most expensive craft to pursue due to ingredients found across the world as said by one of the devs.
Armorsmith and weaponsmith should suits my warrior well
