Hi people, i have done some research and plan to get GNEX(my 1st android phone).

Few questions,
1. Any one can recommend trusted seller as i have bad experience on buying phone online.

2. Is there a way to check the software before buying the phone(ie Manufactured date, etc)

3. How much does the 16gb/32gb cost?

4. I still dont understand after reading all these comments about rooting and fleshing, any website for beginners?

lastly, does watching movie(720p) good on Gnex? Is that even possible? A full movie mp4/avi.

1) http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1959035&hl= i just bought another unit from this guy today biggrin.gif his shop at subang. very friendly guy smile.gif.

2) usually the new set would be in ICS 4.0, go settings > about phone (im sure some other bors here answered already.)

3) only 16gb, i bough for rm1220 including casing and screen protector

4) see this http://www.androidpit.com/jailbreak-android and http://android.appstorm.net/general/iphone...ndroid-rooting/ if you still dont get it after going through the forum

5) i heard there's still little lag for certain file types but if you got JB is a brand new game.
*
fuuuuu, the article written by Eric McBride is FLAWLESS. I instantly understand the whole picture lol, but one thing he dint mention is fleshing.

That's the cheapest i heard with rm1220 including casing and screen protector.

How about the manufactured date for the phone? I heard IMEI has something to do with SME(original) approved from samsung warranty.

i think i know what flashing means now

hm, could you elaborate more? You mean dont buy nexus if there are no custom recovery custom rom and custom kernal installed inside? How does it affect it's life?

It means, don't get Nexus if you are juz using it as it comes (stock rom). It is meant for ppl with itchy hand laugh.gif
*
yeah i get that part, but affect its life if there is no custom roms? I though stock rom is always stable(no OC), hence longer life.

no, why would Samsung included 3rd party ROM for u  doh.gif

anyways, what he tried to say is that, if u are ppl hu love to flash stuff, get the nexus phone.... u can do a lots of nasty stuff to the phone  brows.gif

it was designed to do so as it is a developer phone from google...

which for my opinion is true and i actually agree that  brows.gif
*
yeah, i read tons of forums, getting this phone(because of google) will ensure up-to-date softwares. Unlike S2 which is still stuck at 2.3.

tongue.gif You don't understand me  sad.gif

Erm... I mean. You should read more on what Galaxy Nexus is capable of. It wasn't meant to be a normal Android phone. It was meant for the developers and more advanced user. If you're only going to use it as it is out of the box, I suggest you to go for HTC or Samsung. These brands have better UI that is user friendly. They have also added a lot features/functionality which is quite attractive like the gesture/motion thing in Samsung.

Anyway, it's your money. It's your choice.

S2 is now all on 4.0.3.
*
yeah, actually nexus is from samsung lol. Or nexus OS is entirely different from other samsung which uses sense?
what else is galaxy nexus capable of? xray pic tongue.gif? I though rooting goes all the same for android just that more developer on nexus because it is part of google phone.
QUOTE(vernon91 @ Jul 24 2012, 09:54 PM)
no, not really totally depends on the users....we actually achieved better on custom stuff than stock....

but in the end, it still depends on the user

Added on July 24, 2012, 9:55 pm

BTW, S2 already on ICS 4.0.3  sweat.gif

oh isee. but took them far longer than nexus i assume. so nexus still beat it on software.

Nexus is running pure google stock ROM....without any UI overlay like Samsung touchwiz or HTC sense...so u will see diff between them......

about rooting and flashing....consider that nexus is the most easiest phone to root and flash stuff than other phoen out thr
*
QUOTE(IwanAGP @ Jul 24 2012, 10:17 PM)
Yes... It's from Samsung. Just the Hardware from Samsung. Software handled by Google.
Samsung uses TouchWIZ.
Sense is HTC.

Not to say entirely different but it's the purest, untouched Android or 'Vanilla Android'. This term is given to pure android with no custom UI Overlay(Sense/Touchwiz/...)
It's the little little things that these manufacturers modified based on original android that makes it more user friendly. Certain apps that you think is compulsory or that must appear in a normal phone, you probably don't get a chance to see it in Nexus. You need 3rd party apps to cover that up which I think is a little inconvenient since the integration won't be as good as those on Samsung or HTC.

Just my opinion.
PS: The joke is that you'll ruin a Nexus' Life. For being not flashing/rooting/unlocking bootloader on it  whistling.gif
*
Isee. But other UI can be deleted with custom roms right?

Btw what is bricked? hang/could not turn on? how about soft bricked? what are the chances it will happen while flashing or rooting? Can fix ownself or have to send to samsung centre?

just saw that jelly bean is incompatible with Viber.. planning to use that to call my overseas friend. hmmmm

if u follow instruction properly nth to worry  laugh.gif

fix it urself by flashing it agn or back to stock....

u wont brick ur nexus unless u are doing it so wrong  shakehead.gif

QUOTE(IwanAGP @ Jul 24 2012, 10:29 PM)
Brick is like you mess up the whole thing in your ROM. I'm referring to Random Access Memory, not that 'ROM'. It won't boot up. If it completely dies off, we call it hard brick. I think is almost impossible to save. But normally at most you face is soft brick. Even soft brick is so rare. I never heard anyone bricked their device here in this forum. Don't be the first to brick your Nexus  laugh.gif

You can use Line, Skype. Viber is not compatible. if you want to use it, don't flash to JellyBean after you get your phone. Stay with ICS until we feedback saying that it's working. But seriously, it's not worth the wait. Jelly Bean brings Galaxy Nexus to another new level of smoothness. Nothing much too new compared to ICS but its smoothness KILLS!

Added on July 24, 2012, 10:34 pmAnyone knows any toggle to toggle Full Screen (Hide nav bar) like AOKP?
Don't feel like manually messing with build.prop
*
Oh okay, so i think it wont be a concern for me unless i misread the instructions lol.
The hard brick kills the software or hardware for Random access memory?

The smoothness has such a huge gap between ICS and JB?

I can't delete my songs. I listen to songs at least an hour everyday in school, on bus, just not at home.
Btw, LMT is so fun. But, anyone knows how to change the 'APP'? When I set it to trigger an APP. Referring to PIE Control. I use it to trigger 'Screen Off and Lock'. Now I can 'sleep' my phone through the pie. Just I hope to rename it to something else. Any idea?  icon_question.gif

The big games are all free.
The largest one is Blood and Glory, download from market.
Then Dead Trigger. Once a paid apps but the devs 'dulan' see so many pirates around, make it free to download now. This one... I can't coordinate my hand well because it using left hand for moving front back left right. To rotate the 'person'/camera, like how we normally use our mouse to do it in FPS(Counter strike like) games, you need to do it with your right hand. BUT... Then you need your right hand to shoot. My hands are fighting each other. Keep get hit by zombies.
Then FLCommando also free. Quite a fun one. Snipe and Assault rifle. I just started playing, first impression is quite good.

*
If the phone is not rooted, you cant flash custom roms. How about apps(games etc)? does rooted phone has more access to free games? Or it is just the same as long as some pirated guy manage to crack it and you can download it for free.

hmm.gif Erm... Don't ask these kind of thing straight in forum. You might get warning from MOD.
What I can say is...
In android, it's not like Jailbreak in iPhone. Android is like a Jailbroken iPhone. Without rooting, you can already install all sort of applications(in .apk extension). It might not be compatible but not much harm. Just uninstall it will do.
Rooting in Android gives you much more access to your phone. For normal user, root access let you to touch the system files/apps, to adjust clock frequency(set min/max), make backups(titanium backup) etc. Custom rom normally requires you to have custom recovery(CWM, TWRP) in order to flash the zip file prepared by the developer. You don't really need to have root access to flash custom rom. It can be that the rom is rooted and you don't need to root it on your own. The thing you need here is to have custom recovery to flash the custom rom.

QUOTE(vernon91 @ Jul 25 2012, 12:15 AM)
u don need to rooted to install pirated games or apps.....

u root for apps to actually allow more features that need more permission from the phone

warning: im not trying to promote pirated stuff.....just answering question  sweat.gif

hmm, i thought this phone is all about rooting and stuff, even the law in america has been passed that is it now legal to root the android phone.

Thanks for the replies anyway.

rooting=/=pirating stuff if your statement is correct regarding rooting smile.gif
