Since there is alot of debate and discussion upon prices and quotations in quite a few areas in LYT.NET, I figured we would and should have one in general, to see the general average market price that people are charging for different type of services and projects.. I hope this thread can give an insight and aware of younger and more inexperience designers of the market value and price.
In general as i said in the other thread:
This is just the usual method I calculate my quotations upon. It depends on:
1) type of project - brochure? business card? posters? etc... 2) time 3) size of the work 4) colour or b/w 5) client (going more into more detail would be saying how large is your client? Are they are multinational company who does publishing? or a newly open publishing house which is starting out. But once in a while you do meet projects that are interesting and allow you to have the freedom to express yourself as well as the client having a tight budget. So overall I would charge them 90 - 80% from the given rate i would give them and give them 100% because if you do the task at hand well, they will come back to you for future business.) 6) production costs - printing, scanning, etc 7) transportation cost / transportation reimbursement.

Would you think designers here would be interested in a union? Or even to help design an awareness program for clients and the general public to help people understand and appreciate designers more? It could even educate and aware not just the public but designers themselves.
sound interesting?

How about searching for young and new talents? Having design workshops and competitions? To discuss more upon alot of designer's issues in more detail? Discuss about the market and the social responsibilities that designers have?
I've always thought about this for quite a while...

To be realistic etsuko, institution such as these are not interested in these sort of things. I know what your getting at since these are design schools and funding is needed for this sort of project. But LUCT has no interest in such things unless 'you are paying them', as i'm studying there at the current moment and anything to get started cost me $$$. Weird huh? Anyway back to the discussion, yea we should find interested people as well as sponsours. If you are really serious about workshops as well it needs to be done professionally and properly. I would suggest competitions first with maybe prize money from sponsours but the theme is specifically interesting.
cheers

well a competition is there to gather interest from participants, but the competition should also help bring designers together. That is where we can have more fruitul discussions about....
