Hi Everyone,

I bought a dell laptop via 12 months 0% interest for RM 4120 from the Dell Website using my Maybankard MC. I split my Amex and MC to 4k and 4k.

But sumhow the transaction went through anyways.

Question is, i tried to use my Amex for fuel and makan at places i have used the card before but sumhow the transaction was declined. But when i used my Mastercard there was no issues.

so

1) How does maybank calculate my interest rate now? RM 4120 ( 12 months EPP ) + RM 200 ( Fuel and Food)

2) My MC should have been blocked ready as it exceed the set credit limit but still working, my Amex feels like its been blocked for some reason.

Appreciate the help guys :-)

what do you mean by split Amex and MC to 4k each???

what is your credit limit?

btw, MC and AMEX shared same credit limit for Maybank2kard
*
if not mistaken my limit is 8k. when i choose to apply i set the ratio between both cards at 50 : 50. It says 4k for 1 card so i assume for the other its 4k as well. In my M2U it appears as 4k and 4k

1) EPP does not charged interest unless you do not pay for that month. It will follow the normal rate from the outstanding balance amount.
2) MBB does allow some amount of overlimit for their Visa/Mastercard, but anyway for petrol pump it will automatically block RM200 so when the limit is over then it could declined but if you use it for something else like RM50 it would go thru.
*
So means that if i pay on time... it will not take the 4120 into calculation for interest...? only assume if i have a balance outstanding of rm 200 ++ from other transactions, interest will be charged on that? ( if paid late)

Thanks for help mate

hi sifus,

quick maths question.

I bought a laptop from Dell using my Maybank2kard Mastercard for RM 4120.00. Supposed to be part of EPP but my Acc Manager from Dell screwed up big time.

They agreed to reimburse my interest charges so my question is this.

IF i intend to pay up my CC charge of RM 4120.00 in 12 months (RM 343.33 a month), How much is my intrest?

Amex card says 8.88%
MC card says 16% ( retail interest)

I do charge some other payments to my card as well but all paid on time. So far only outstanding payment is from this Laptop charge.

do note that the moment u start carrying a balance, all new transactions will get charged interest as well. Only way to avoid this is
1) pay the balance in full
2) stop using the card until the balance is cleared

I suggest you complain and get Dell to reverse the charge. And charge you the correct EPP.

So this means

( Card statement date : 06 Sept 2012
closing date : 26 Sept 2012

Transactions

Dell Laptop : RM 4120.00 @22/8/2012
Purchase of A :RM 100.00 @ 23/8/2012
Purchase of B : RM 100.00 @24/8/2012
Purchase of C : RM 100.00 @30/8/2012

Total : 4420

Payment for Dell : RM 343.33@ 10/9/2012
Payment for A : RM 100.00 @ 10/9/2012
Payment for B : RM 100.00 @ 10/9/2012
Payment for C : RM 100.00 @ 10/9/2012

Balance : RM 3776.67

So assume i charged another RM 200 to the card say during 10th of Oct but paid it off in the 25th of Oct ( RM 200 + another RM 343.33 for my lappie)

means RM 3776.67 + 200 - RM 200 - RM 343.33 x 16% interest rite?

or do i calculate as 3776.67 + RM 200 = RM 3996.67 x 16% int rate.

lol...this is confusing stuff.. they said cannot change back to the EPP scheme as they already charged my card

CC Interest is charged on a daily basis.

As per your example, from 27 Sept onwards once it is clear you did not fully settle the balance, you get charged interest from the very first transaction date in the statement. Assuming you have no transactions prior to the laptop purchase, all transactions from 22/8/2012 will be charged interest. And this will continue for all new transactions until you have settled the entire balance in the card.

depending on your rate, it will most likely be 18%/365 on the entire balance to date, looking at it daily.

Thus doing a +200  -200 is not going to save you any interest unless you pay down the card on the transaction date itself, i.e. use RM200 on 09/10/2012, pay RM200 on 09/10/2012

it is miscommunication if they insist they cannot do a reversal.

Unless you get a black and white from Dell committing that they will cover ALL interest charges including for all your other transactions, I would file a dispute with the bank as a wrongful charge and make a very big fuss about it via Dell customer service, Facebook etc.

Thanks for heads up bro. Guess i will pay off all other charges and not use the card anymore.

Assume if i have around 3k balance ( from the lappie) but stopped using the card. assume i want to pay off in 5 months. Wat is my likely interest charges?

But i can use my amex card like normal rite
