I'm one of those early Time Astro IPTV adopters in November 2012. At that time I subscribe for 3MB at RM128, plus special price of RM100 (after RM25 discount) for Astro Beyond channels including Sports. I'm still on 3MB but with GST paying RM135.68, plus Astro Beyond channels now at RM121 + GST RM7.26. Total monthly paying RM263.95.

Received the free upgrade email too. So I called Astro.

Astro Customer Service explained that the upgrade is being carried out by Time, so Time personnel will contact me. Accordingly my 2012 router will not be able to support 100MBps but only up to 40MBps. So if I accept the free upgrade, I will need to buy/pay for new Time router and that costs RM286.20. I will also be subjected to new 24 months contract. Unsure whether there'll be installation/labour charges.

You should be able to get a pretty decent router capable of supporting up to 100Mbps on Lazada for under RM100. I've tried a number of router brands and it all works. Unlike UNIFI which requires vlan tagging for HyppTV, Astro IPTV connection is direct to the Fiber BTU, so you don't need to worry about any complicated setups. Just key in the username and password on the PPPOE setting and you're done.

While I'm not computer illiterate, I'm not much into routers. I probably will choose something like TP-Link or Asus. Maybe you can recommend specific models as I see some are actually actually ADSL+ routers for Streamyx. I assume routers for Unifi can also be used for Time fibre broadband.

If you've got a bit more to spend, get this as it offers extremely good wireless coverage and should be able to support even 100Mbps rates over WiFi. Its RM199, but you should be able to get some vouchers and get a good deal.

If you're on a tight budget, then this would do just fine for RM77+

Great, many thanks. I can afford TL-WR1043N.

I now have some idea and waiting for Time personnel to call me, as I also want to know what router they are offering for RM286.20.

I have a feeling that it will be TP Link Archer C1200, which is an okay router, and better than the TL-WR1043N.

If it is Archer C1200, then at RM286.20 will be cheaper than Lazada or 11street. Dual band somemore.

hey guys, so I'm using the 10mbps plan, and noticed my speed was around 35mbps today, which was weird, so I checked my Time account and saw that it was subscribed to the 100mbps plan,so i was confused.

Then I checked my email and saw the free upgrade promo,so I opted for the free 100mbps upgrade and got the "we'll be keeping in touch with you" message. But my sped is still around 35mbps.

Is my speed around 35mbps because the upgrade hasn't fully taken place yet, or because my router/modem isn't capable higher speeds?

my router  : Cisco Linkysys E1200
my modem : Huawei HG8240

I logged in to the Cisco router and 2.4ghz was my only option. no 5Ghz

Anyone able to help? thanks a bunch! biggrin.gif

My equipment exactly same as yours. But using http://www.time.com.my/support/internet-speed-test, I got consistent download speed of 46-49 MBps.

Ooo I see, will try that site later.

Are you planning to buy the new  router from time?

I'm waiting for call from Time to know which brand and model of router they are offering; Astro customer service said it costs RM286.20.

I have an old TP-Link TD-W8961ND ADSL modem router which was put aside when my Streamyx was disconnected and I subscribed to Time Astro IPTV.

Now that Time has upgraded to 100MBps, I tried to directly replaced Cisco Linksys E1000 with TD-W8961ND but it shows I'm not good at all as I can't do it that way. My simple thought was that the router built-in to W8961ND can be used to replace E1000 but the signal from Time Huawei Echolife GPON can't be connected to W8961ND.

Is there any use for W8961ND then?
