There is a tyre test in the December 2008 Motor magazine which tests 8 performance tyres and 4 semi slicks.
Road tyres tested 215/45/17:
Federal 595 EVO $180
Dunlop SP Sportmaxx $340
Continental Sportcontact 3 $375
Hankook Ventus V12 EVO $210
Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001 $296
Pirelli P Zero Nero $344
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric $356
Maxxis Victra i-Pro $215
Tyre pressures were 35psi on a FWD Renault Clio.
Tests performed were: Slalom wet and dry, Braking wet/dry, Lateral G/sideforce wet/dry, Lap times at shorter Oran Park and Apex Speeds.
Overall Results: Total points.
1. Bridgestone Potenzas 120.1
2. Maxxis Victra i-Pro 115.5
3. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 112.4
4. Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 98.8
5. Pirelli P Zero Nero 95.2
6. Continental Sportcontact 91.6
7. Dunlop Spotmaxx 84.8
8. Federal 595 EVO 81.5
After the test the Maxxis had held its head high and would certainly be the best bang for buck.
Semi Slicks tested at 30psi:
Dunlop Direzza 03G $445
Toyo Proxes R888 $399
Federal RSR $240
Bridgestone Potenza RE 55S
The Dunlop semi slick had outshone the rest and was comparable to the dry performance of the Dunlop Race slick.
Overall results: Total points.
1. Dunlop Direzza 03G 143.4
2. Bridgestone Potenza RE55S 112.6
3. Toyo Proxes R888 81.3
Federal 595 RSR 62.7
