I agree with david here, It is a big deal, if you had a bad experience working with a family business like what David mention here.
no.
im not trying to justify how family business is not a big deal...
now im talking about boycotting sucky company. just to give designer to be aware of what sort of company that will force u work for them til puke blood and you only get peanuts, always cut ur salary, always make u feel guilty for no reason, etc etc....
what im trying to say is that, we shouldnt boycott a company just solely becoz they are family business...
there are family with reasonable and understanding people in it, and there are family with retarded attitude and thinking in it.
ultimately it is base on what sort of family people u join their company.
now you tell me that you wont let ur designer work like f*** and get peanuts and always cut their salary. does that mean when your sibling join venture into you, and that would make you change your way of treating staff into always cut ur staff salary?
i guess the answer is no.
to say boycott a company just solely becoz they are family business, i see it very wrong.
they might be a very good and well understanding people in that family.
for matter of fact, my previous company is sort of family business too. husband and wife, and later stage when i left, the wife sister came in help in accounting.
honestly, there are shits inside, but not until the extend to boycott. they still pay salary on time, they giv you OT money, weekend i nvr see a single staff came into work. once a while staff will OT late, but not always. rarely in fact... but the bonuses is kinda crappy... split into 2 times. the lady boss is.... double face kind of person.... and etc management things. but overall not until the extend to boycott just solely becoz they are family business. each company has pro and cons...
I certainly dont think there will be any problem if in the future i asked my brother to join venture with me. i understand what designers hate as i been thru there.
but as for asking wife to join venture... that i gotto think twice.
to sum up... most family business might really create problems like david said here... but definitely not all.
PS: don get me wrong, im still working for people and not yet marry.
