Actually you got it wrong. Fly by wire or drive by wire literally means electronic pedal and not old tech cabled throttled.

Because it is electronic or drive by wire, the throttle respond actually is more instantaneous or responsive vs the old tech cabled linked throttle where you have slacks in the cable wires to the throttle body. Unfortunately the terms drive by wire actually not referring throttle cable wire but rather electronic version.

The lagging or delay felt its due more to inexperienced dsg user or expectation that created or conditioned by the conventional AT.

for the dimension, I thought you are referring to Fiesta hatch but actually the 4278mm is actually referring to Fiesta Sedan.... the bug is using the same platform as the Golf, Eos and Scirroco, likely their dimension will be almost identical (except jetta with a boot)

i didnt go to last year's das auto show but this years show was quite good, can see they put alot of money into it n ur paying a premium for the beetle. lol. dancers, singer, stunt drivers, celebrities, etc. the new beetle design looks good. long waiting list i think.
