anyone know how i can get the phone on the cheap ? preferably using a subscription plan :/
my budget is 1.6k myr for the phone, and max 50 myr monthly for a subscription fee for telco service.
i rarely call or sms much. but i do use the internet alot, although i will most likely disable the mobile data usage on phone, and instead use my home router wireless n unifi connection, or free wireless hotspots like at starbucks.
u can try digi or umobile if u don worry get tied more than a year
tried u mobile. called them up, ask if got stock they said yes. went over to their store only to get told actually they don't even nation wide. also that there is a 1 month wait time even if you do manage to subscribe for their package with the phone included, which by the way they aren't accepting anymore customers for the package + phone until further notice ....
i didn't appreciate their customer service lying about having stock over the phone, it's very dishonest and they just waste my whole evening, and petrol driving down to their store for nothing
although i do admit their package plan does seem to be what i need, but right now i rather just get a working plan with the phone now :/ and when contract is up, i can then decide to switch to another telco, maybe even u mobile, if the price is right then.

without plan 1899 can get...
why not get with digi... i m not sure whether 1gb got or not... unlimited** speed capped after reach quota
the thing is, i can only afford 1.6k which is my budget for the phone. i'm not considering rm50 monthly into that cost, since i'm already paying that roughly anyway for my current phone service with maxis pre-paid, nor possible interest rate loss because of committing to a 12/24 month contact, i'm not that fussy.
but nor do i intend to subscribe to some crazy package like celcom charging like 150monthly, seeing as i'm not a heavy phone user at all. in fact i'm below average for phone use so need a bare minimum monthly subscription package (max rm 50 is my limit), with a cheap price for purchasing the phone via the package plan over a 12 or 24 month period.
is digi still right for me as such ? also which plan from digi do you recommend ?
and any tips about any hiddens costs regarding digi i should be aware of in particular regarding the internet data plan ?

I was just like you were before my first major purchase of a smartphone.
It's actually pretty easy to make a decision cause there are so many avenues now with information about these phones. Not just the SIII.
1. Watch youtube videos of reviews. There are tonnes! watch all if you want to. I used to watch tonnes of it before buying stuff.
2. Go to websites like engadget, pocketnow, phonedog, phonarena, or any other gadget site and there are tonnes of written/vlogs of reviews of phones. even side by side comparisons. I particularly like the layout of mobile88 (which is a local site) when comparing phones.
3. Go to a samsung centre/apple store, and play the hell out of their demo phones. It's no crime to just stand there and flip through the phone (assuming not many are waiting in line) and try out almost everything they have. You can even do that in a maxis centre or any other telco that has these demos.
Cheers mate. Think carefully and survey everything before buying
yeah well i've been using dumb nokia phones since forever. never had a smartphone

sold 10 million in 2 months
with jelly bean coming soon...
jelly bean is that a newer android firmware ? will the s3 be able to update to that ?
also from my understanding, the s3 uses a touch wiz 5 vs touch sense 4 gui. so even if it could upgrade to jelly bean, is it likely the gui would be able to utilize the multi tasking features of that original android firmware upgrade ? or will it still be using a slightly gimped touch wiz 5 still :/ ?

S3 is the new 'face' of Android, as claimed by a website that I read just now.
thats what nokiad said about their lumia series smart phones through their colaboration with microsoft. although i feel they may have came too late, since there is a ton of android support and fans now

If you have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and you want to get your hands on Jelly Bean but don’t want to wait there is good news. Courtesy XDA there is a CyanogenMod 10 CM10 available for the S3.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update via CM10
The update comes from XDA Developers who brought Jelly Bean to the Samsung Galaxy S3. However it is not quite ready to be used every day as there are some features missing such as camera not being stable, Wi-Fi tethering not working and FM radio is missing. However you can enjoy Project Butter and Google Now. If you want to install it then follow the steps below. Bear in mind that it will only work with the i9300 model of the S III. Proceed at your own risk.
How to install
Install the CM9 ROM on the Galaxy S3 from the XDA-Developers forum thread. Then download the Google App package, and copy the ROM and App package onto the SD card. Switch off the Galaxy S3 to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Pressing Volume Up, the Home button, and the power button together will boot into the recovery mode. When the screen turns on, stop pressing the buttons. Wait a moment and a list of options will be presented; navigation is done through the volume buttons (up/down) and selecting options is done via the Home button. Navigate to "wipe data/factory reset," select the option, and then "Yes" to confirm. After the aforementioned information is wiped, choose the install zip option from the SDcard. Navigate to the ROM file, and select "Yes" again to begin installation. Once installation is complete, choose the zip file again and the Google Apps package "gapps-jb-20120703.zip" file. After being selected, return to the main recovery menu and select the option to reboot.
