They use fedex mostly and if u are unlucky with kastam, may kena up to 30% of item cost + shipping total

Thanks for reply. 30% is too much. don't think it is easy to get through custom without being taxed since most statues are big and heavy.

Hi, is anybody know if there is a new policy of custom malaysia that if you import goods via post with value exceeding MYR1,000, you must appoint agent to claim your parcel and pay the duty to agent. I recently got charged MYR100 + 10% duty by an agent just because I imported a statue cost MYR1,600 (CIF). I was forced to pay because the custom will not release the parcel without agent.
According to the custom officer stationed in post office, the policy apply to whole malaysia.

OMG  shocking.gif

So what was the damage for your case? Only RM100 + RM100?
*
total damage = MYR100 + MYR160 (10% CIF Value) = MYR260
Money paid to agent, no receipt issued by custom.
agent sitting in custom office waiting for business, better pay than Doctor and other professionals, no need work can earn MYR100 per case.
already wrote to custom and see what is their reply.

Yeah 10% is for "Toys", 30% for "Statues"

The % is for Price + Shipping. So It becomes so much more expansive sad.gif

depending on the tariff code you use. I think the 30% one is for statue made of wood (tariff code 4420).
At first I tried to use tariff code 9703 (which is duty free) and emailed custom malaysia with photo for confirmation and they came back with me that the statue falls under catergory of toy (9503) because it is a figure of a movie character and not a statue for praying.
I don't mind paying tax and duty but just don't understanding the logic of paying "agent fee" for imported goods > MYR1,000.00
I am still awaiting reply from custom malaysia. will post their reply here if anyone of you interested.

Hi Ken,

based on my experience, as long as your package is being held by kastam, you have the choice of collecting it yourself and pay the necessary taxes (depending what item and value it is) OR you can appoint the pos personnel to do it on your behalf, of course there will be a nominal fees to be paid for the appointment of them collecting it and delivering it to you.

10% is cheap in comparison to some who get taxed 20% + 10 % when importing "statues"

Actually I went to custom office myself. They even asked me to open the parcel for checking but after that they said need to appoint agent otherwise they cannot released the parcel and claimed that this is a new custom policy apply to whole malaysia.

i guess it's agent who paid the duty on behalf of u to the customs. Fedex is an example. based on my experience, imported a statue costing rm1000, shipping around rm400  sweat.gif  , tax paid by fedex on behalf of me to the customs, rm400 which is 30% based on item price and shipping.

totally different case. I went to collect the parcel myself (statue shipped via USPS priority mail i.e. ems), why do I need to pay MYR100 of agent fee in addition to custom tax/duty?
