u will definitely gonna upgrade after a year or so, so buying second hand will reduce your loss

unless you are talking about 2nd hand ninja250 too

Depends on a few factors, the ER6F is a workhorse, it can really take a beating and still work well. If the bike is well taken care of, there shouldn't be any problems. Do look at the service book to find out on the service intervals and what oil used by the owner etc. All that can save you a lot of headache in the long run.

1 - in term of power, of course er6f. figure already tell 250cc vs 650cc. if learn math before, can differenciate which number is bigger 

2 - in term of usage, history of 2nd hand er6f still on dark side; cannot see how does previous owner take car of its bike, unless he show prove how he maintan e.g stack of service bill. new ninja 250 of course are brand new. the 1st owner himself determine how do he wanna mantain his bike 

3- in term of money in your pokect, let say you have cash rm23k. a new ninja 250 is 23k while 2nd hand er6f also rm23k. of course 2nd er6f is the choice but as history told as how does it being maintaned, some parts may not being service from last owner, so preparing spare money to fix it. any circumstances may make you headache. brand new ninja 250 as and when you bought it, you take care from its 1st days to ownership. no need to headache to spare some money to fix thing. no worries. its brand new

4 - in term on maintenance, bigger cc mean more money to mantain. smaller cc less money to maintain. eventho like some component and parts for these to are same.  (both use 2 EO bottle;3 bottle if change oil filter for er6f, both are 8 valve to make valve clearance), some of it not same, where again er6f need spend more eg tyres (rear tyres ninja250 wide 140, er6f wider 160) monoshocks, oil filter etc etc

the choice is yours

my own view, since im dowgrading it because of i had enough to maintain bigger bike, high insurance rate, usability, weight and other commitment. i concern on item 3 and 4. and ninja250 seems suite me well. as long as i can use it for convoy and weekend ride

Go to bike shop and test it out. The 250r seat of course is not that comfortable for long distance. Lemme know if you're really interested to get a bike. I know a lot of bike dealers around.

I don't mind the bike spending a couple of days in the garage if I can squeeze out a few weeks of fun out of it. I still have my kapchai as backup. What I would like to avoid is having to put it through an overhaul, or those repeat problems. Worse... having a breakdown while on the road, both embarassing and dangerous.

I was looking at the ZZR's because they're sports tourers. Not sure if there have the side boxes for the Ninjas. I was thinking that bike's value will drop more than cars, but it looks like resale value is still pretty good. I don't know if I should just top off the difference and hop for brand new.

Never sit in the rear seat b4. front both feel almost the same except the 250 feel more sporty. Maybe is the look that give this false sense of more sporty, maybe it is real it give more sporty feel, this I am not sure. But if big butt will thank the ER6 bigger rear seat.

I went up to sit on the rear today for a little bit feel with the bike on paddock stand. I got a big butt and the rear is ok only for ER6. The ninja 250 rear seat sure look small to me. Another thing to consider is the sitting position, with ER6 the rear pose is more upright, Ninja 250 kind of more like squat down.

If you just tour around highway or tar road, ER6F is okay, but if you plan to cross to indochina, get those touring/dual sport. ER6F I think across Thailand till Thailand Laos border is ok, beyond that gotta get those dual sport touring or motard or motocross... 2 of my 2ndary school mate been to there, not much road, mostly mud and gravel. I think they rode 2 Kawa KLX, from Singapore till Vietnam China border and turn back, came back and dispose of the bike.

It is not really a problem. Only I am kind of easily annoy with buzzing noise and my riding style keep me at the 4K rpm range, which coincidently, is when my buzzzzz come out. You just need to find the right panel to stick any rubber/double side tape/damping stuff to get rid of it. And I am still hunting for my right panel buzz. left panel solve last week after i found the right spot to stick a damping rubber. Few days taking panel off and on ,try and error.... talk to some season rider, they told me the buzz is a trait for kawa inline 2. Also some micro vibration on the handlebar. Can wear gel padded glove or exercise finger while riding will get rid of the numb...
