KKR1M is a chain of stores catering mostly to rural folk and offer fabric and ready-made garments like baju Melayu and school uniforms at cheap prices.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the first store here which he believes will attract not just people in the area but also from afar.
“KKR1M offers quality fabric sold lower than market prices. For example, a satin baju Melayu costs RM40 compared to RM50 at other shops. A linen shirt, which would cost about RM79 elsewhere, is priced at RM45 in this store,” the Prime Minister said.
Plenty of designs: Customers looking for fabric at the KKR1M store in Hulu Langat.
“This store will not only delight residents of Hulu Langat. I believe people from other places will travel all the way here to buy cheap fabric, especially with Hari Raya approaching,” he added.
The store located at a commercial area in Taman Lagenda Suria near the Batu 14 township would probably have to make extra orders to ensure it had adequate stock, Najib said yesterday.
The owner of the chain, Peluang Karisma Sdn Bhd, plans to open about 30 KKR1M stores in the next two years.
Najib expects more products and services using the 1Malaysia brand to be introduced in the future.
He stressed that applicants wishing to use the brand must fulfil certain criteria which “comply with the 1Malaysia philosophy”.
“Many people have asked me if they could use the 1Malaysia name for a product or service, and I said no' to some requests.
“One of the criteria for using the brand is that the service or product must be tailor-made for the rakyat. Second, it must be of good quality. Finally, it must be cheaper than market price,” said Najib.
