Hi, have some question here.
Planning to buy Xbox360 for my son, but it seems got so many version out there etc: Arcade..Elite..etc..etc..
not to mention Jasper, Zephyr etc...etc...not quite understand.
The question is, which one should I get? I mean the most reliable one.
Don't want any trouble after i buy it....
Any explanation and suggestion would be appreciated.....

The newest version is known as Xbox 360 Slim. The standard package come in either 4GB or 250GB of disk space. Get either one of this.

Limited edition package comes with a 320GB disk space.

If you are buying a new one, the lastest version is xbox 360 S (xbox 360 slim). The standard pacakge come with 4GB console, one wireless controller, power adapter and standard AV cable.

You can also buy bundle package include additional goodies like
- External hard drive 250GB (or 320GB).
- Kinect Sensor. Play without controller (on certain game)
- Additional controller.
- Headset
- HDMI cable
- Games
- Themes (Gears of War, StarWars, Halo etc)

For normal buy, xbox 360 4GB + Kinect sensor bundle should be the fine.

Power spec changed a bit, but I'm not sure the detail, but it's pretty much the same shit. Try asking at shops and see if they got old stocks for you. I personally like matte since it won't scratch and glue your fingerprints that much.

Definately to get the cost down. But i do like the option since not all user need a lot of storage. You can also use flash drive as additional storage.

IDK the (i) sound like pirated to me which if it is, then we cannot discuss it (ii) more storage.

Between 4GB Xbox and 250GB Xbox, the latter obviously have more storage. Storage, should you like to buy games/demos directly from XBLA, download and install it in you Xbox. i.e. Alan Wake was like 6GB+ download. I am pretty sure cannot fit 4GB Xbox unless you upgrade to 250GB.

You can still use thumbdrive/external HDD up to 16GB of space to store your games.

Yes, correct. That's the maximum you can set anyway in the console. I'm not aware of any workaround that let you bypass the 16GB limitation.

Well, that sucks. Anyway I did read somewhere that some games don't work well played from external HDD. Got some cache-thingy issues like the most of the games were meant to be played via disk.

Yes, which is why it's better to use the internal hard disk, although you're fixed to certain sizes.

i m pretty sure you cant store anything like Games on demand on portable HDD. As i recall x360 can only read specific files on the HDD. The only exception rule is the pendrive. I m not sure if any future update remove this restriction

i m guessing its the FAT32 format which restrict files larger than 4gb

Why not? Those files on the external drives are just 1GB container.

actually there is a way you can use the fat hdd into slim xbox. search it on youtube, lot of video tutorials on how to do it.

in fact i use regular western d laptop hdd bought in pc shop in my xbox slim.

I haven't have any GOD games on my list, but I can put my account-tied XBLA games on it without any problems.

You don't need to install games to play them, but by installing games onto the hard disk, it'll load faster and prolong your DVD drive lens.

go for unmodded ( original ) ... far better then modded , modded consoles are lot of hassle

2. wont void the warranty ( official warranty )
3. you can update your console at any point of time ( system update )
4. straight away can play old & latest games ( without sending the console to gameshop for update / flashed the dvd rom )

1. cannot play online via xbox live , microsoft will banned your console , xbox live id permanently
2. official warranty already void ( warranty by ah chong gameshop )
3. for system update you have to wait for the hacked version to release , if not stick to the old version
4. to play latest games you need to send your console to gameshop for dvd drives flashed ( each time if there is dvd drives flashed update ) , lots of hassle !
5. risk of damaging your console very high

Well bro, if you can afford original set. Go for it. Modded like lung85 said, lots of hassle. And to update your console all will cost you everytime you go to the shop. Roughly around RM80-RM100+? I'm not sure. In long term, modded console might cost more than original console.

About the expensive games, it's not like you buy games everyday. Hehe. Try to buy one game, finish it, and then only buy another one. That's what I'm doing. Hehe. Plus most members here sell back their games once they're done. You can check the Pasar Malam thread.

If you got the dough, don't get cheap fake Xbox console. Get unmodded ones(you can get it at Gamer's Hideout or any other gaming shops that sells real consoles)

Why unmodded? Simply because of everything you want,you will get it. With a 12 month membership,you can play online with friends or allies across the world with no problem. Unless you have a 1Mbps internet speed then...

What do you expect when a membership cost at RM200 or if you're a member of Gamer's Hideout you can get discount? Real games. Not fake. Games can cost at 169 to 200ish if you're eager to get limited edition..thing.

So,why go for modded when you can have all the fun on unmodded Xbox?

The console is cheap now with bundle..like Kinect and 2 free Kinect games or such.

Be original like all of us here in this forum, get unmodded Xbox and play!

Actually, 1mbps Internet is enough. Lots of my friends are on 1mbps and can play without problem, the only problems are when they're downloading DLCs, such as from Battlefield, which are PITA with its huge size.

FYI, I'm using 512kbps Screamyx...

and never have any multiplayer lag.....

The only thing is my video will be scaled down very badly sometimes till wording very blur but at least visible & no buffering.

Its Streamyx. Can't expect more from Streamyx.

THe only lag on 512kbps is during video streaming (well, for obvious reason......) I never have lags on multiplayer games like Halo, GoW, BF etc.

You might be surprised if I say TM is one of the best ISP in Malaysia. When TM mentioned they know broadband best, they obviously do.

Usually my Streamyx problem is just related to internet speed during Bit Torrent or if someone physically cut-off the cable.

You can compare the service with what P1, Maxis, Time provided.

Hi guys. Quick question. I'm getting a 360 solely for the flagship titles like Halo and Gears of War. Won't be using it much for anything else. Do i need the 250Gb version or can i make do with 4Gb ?

You may just get a 4GB then plug in a 16GB USB drive.

Or like me, buy a 4GB then get myself a china made/selfmade XBOX drive which is at least half the price of what Microsoft asked. Don't worry as the HDD is not part of the console internals you will not get banned.

If you have enough dough to roll & don't mind not getting the Collectors edition of Halo 4, consider the Halo 4 Limited Edition which comes with 320GB drive.

But to show your support and get the best out of the game, buy unmodded console and invest in XBOX LIVE gold account. you'll be able to get just a bit over RM100 from LYN resellers rather than retail price of RM2xx

can show how to do this..cuz i read at tomshardware..they said even customize HDD will be banned

actually just get the version with the hard disk. you'll definitely appreciate the extra 250/320gb of space

basically you need to flash the HSSDD to the target harddisk and if you need the XBOXbemulation u have to clone also partition 2

is darn dangerous for someone with no knowledge about dos to flash the firmware. He might ended up with a brick HDD

XBOX is more expensive than PS3 if you count in Kinect. a bare XBOX260 console with 4GB space only RM699

Coz PS3 mod is external device which is expensive and require you to load game thru HDD and not Bluray.

No mod talk here so we have to stop as it is and I cannot give you any infor about PS3 mod as well as I don't have PS3.

To me you buy a console for a game and not the opposite. I brought XBOX360 for a HALO Series and it's Kinect system. If you ask me, I would say XBOX good, if you go Playstation thread, they will say PS3 better. So what's the point asking which better?

If you're in dilemma. By only when you decided unless you have enough dough to roll for both and IF you have such cash, please go for original if you are a true gamer to appreciate the hardwork people invested for your leisure.
