This is just a personal observation. Earlier on, some people claimed
after the first service, their cars were more responsive. Having just done my first 1K service, I have to concur that the car does feel distinctly preppier.
Unlike initial thoughts, this
improvement wasn't caused by a ECU remap. Rather it was a simple oil change to one that's presumably less viscous. The car is more willing to rev and
feels more powerful. There is however a downside. Thinner oil also equates to a noisier engine. With the new & less viscous oil, when we experience engine braking the sound is more audible. Hence some may even mistake this sound as a 'feeling' the car is jerking. Odd how a simple oil change can have such an pronounced effect.
How many of you have brought their Preves to Genting Highlands? I think this is a good test of the car's performance. Please share your views on these areas of interest
- engine power
- handling
- the brakes when coming back down
My own thoughts are in the spoiler below. Would be great if you guys look at it only after you had shared your own views. That way, we can gauge the accuracy of it.

- engine power
This is the first time since receiving the car that I drove it in an aggressive manner. LOL .. drive in anger seems appropriate. Was in 'S' all the way up. Having so much torque on tap is really handy. I passed many cars on the way up. Only got passed once by a taxi but that was a steep corner which I suspect he's more familiar with. Did catch up and passed him a bit later on. This car is by no means the most powerful one on the road that day but those 205 Nm do make themselves useful.
- handling
For a car of such girth & weight, I had expected a fair bit of understeer. That worry was however unfounded. Proton did such a good job with the handling that the car never once lose composure. My previous Wira was sprung stiffly but when cornered hard, it do slide into the next lane. This Preve kept straight & loyal to it's intended lane. The more I cornered it, the more confidence it inspired. Maybe I didn't push it hard till the tires squeal but this is afterall a new car which I never intended to prematurely thrash. Bear in mind that good handling is active safety. Do have one complaint though. When pushed hard like this, the car does roll a fair bit. Drive in anger and your passenger will complain. Contemplating an upgrade of the ARB (anti-roll bar)
- the brakes when coming back down
Went back downhill in the night. This part I didn't test. So I'm interested to hear from others who did. Was in 'S' almost all the way down and had the aircond on. Fairly comfortable cruising down with engine braking helping slow the car down.
I don't get what the bashers are going about ... talking 3, talking 4 about the Preve, comparing it to non-national makes. Rather than be like them and start comparing, I wont say brand X, model Y is no good. To sum it in a nutshell, for this price, this local made car is giving you such good handling. This alone by itself is worth the price they are asking. The other features like turbo engine, ESC, ABS, blah blah blah can be considered added bonuses.
