Hmm, my house does not seem to have any wood in the way, but the wifi signal is quite hard go pass through. Once I am outside the door, the wifi signal goes to one bar only. The DIR-615 is used as a dedicated AP now, and even after using DD-WRT and bumping up the wifi strength it still feels weak. Maybe I need to do the tinfoil thingy as well XD

It be better to get a TPLINK replacement router. Don't cost much n better stability and functions.

Oh I already have a router. But as I said, the DIR-615 is my dedicated AP since the router is too far.

i mean router  tongue.gif
use tp link for transfer file by pc to pc still slow for me..haiz

Well if you want a cheap solution without breaking the bank, do it like me. I am using a Fast Ethernet Router (meaning 100Mb/s) but I connected it to a Gigabit switch (around RM60). All the important PCs are connected to that switch thus PC to PC transfer over LAN is usually as fast as a SATA2 write speed (around 60MB/s).

Also bye bye RT13U. It keeps overheating and hanging up on me that I decided to get new one. Thankfully even if the router hang the internet still works, hence I can delay the new router until the next pay day

Thanks
so it will actually works if I place the BTU, modem on 1st floor but hypptv set top box on ground floor and connect them via homeplug~ vice versa?
*
Should work, I saw someone did the same thing. Just that make sure you plug it directly into the wall socket without using any plug extensions.

This guy uses it: http://jasonong.blogspot.com/2012/02/enhan...ience-with.html

after u restart it become faster? if that then u r right.. maybe unit not that great...
also remember... even if u hv best router u need fast pc to get full giga speed
the most importat part in pc is hdd... most of time this thing slow down the pc coz cant write fast enough... so the connection feel slow down but its not rotuer.. its hdd!!!

edit: see this http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hard-dr...and-ssds,3.html
*

Nah,you don't need SSD just for that. Normal SATA 3 and Gigabit Lan combo will get you a fast enough speed.

QUOTE(izzat80 @ Oct 13 2012, 10:00 AM)
nah
fast enough... of coz.. but can hdd bottleneck? yes can....
sata 3 7200rpm (most people got this): 80mbytes/s
gigabit network card + real gigabit rotuer/switch: 120mbytes/s

it will slow u down.. jus coz (interface) like sata iii is 6gb/s doesn mean ur hdd can transfer that rate.. it can transfer at what the hdd itself can read/write not its interface
*

IRL you don't need that much speed. 80MB/s transfer is fast enough for most people. The price vs speed ratio is too high to make SSD a viable option other than just a boot/Operating System drive. A normal SATA 3 1TB cost less than RM400, which at the same price, could only get you at most a 120GB SSD. While a Gigabit Lan might be bottlenecked by the HDD, it's a better option than using a Fast Ethernet connection where it's the other way around, in which your network is bottlenecking the transfer speed.

What modem are you using? If you are using the huawei you can reconfig the modem so that you can use any kind of router to dial UNIFI. I am using the RM47 TP Link 740N right now and my HyppTV is directly connected to the modem as well.

If you having a smart phone or something, download an app call wifi analyzer to see what kind of wifi channel your neighbor is using. If they're using 11, you switch to 9. Minus 2 everytime.

Or find any pc software that able to do the same thing.

You can change your wifi channel in our router page manual wireless settings. 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
*

Actually it's minus 5 (channel 6) or plus 3 (channel 14). That is the international rule for non overlapping wifi channel. you are still overlapping (and in danger of screwing the signal anyways) if you only are shifting two channels

I think we should compare between service providers. Example: UNIFI vs MAXIS Fiber.
If Maxis can provide such lower price, why not UNIFI?.

additionally, we should view things in a customer's shoe. As Customers, they do not need to care what issues the service providers is having. Customers should only look at the benefits they are going to receive, eg. Price, Quality, etc.
*
There are only two companies in Malaysia that has fibre infrastructure, TM and TIME. Any other provider is piggybacking TM, since TIME keeps their line exclusive.

Also there are a few difference between Maxis Fibre and TM Unifi. For one Unifi comes with HyppTV, while Maxis does not have an IPTV service as of yet. And the reason WHY they don't have an IPTV is why they are cheap in the first place. You are not using a dedicated IP, but a shared IP among users in your area. That mean you won't be able to use direct connection to access your PC at home. Unifi gives an individual IP per user, which for me is quite important as I host quite a lot of stuffs on my home connection that i need to access from my home using direct connection.

Please do remember that internet penetration is still low in this country, and laying fibres is costly, considering the topology of Malaysia. Hence why the price won't go down much in 10 to 20 years as TM slowly replacing their old copper lines with fibres. Malaysia is not just Klang Valley as much as most people living there wants to believe.
