Guys, wanna ask something. How many vlan id is the default TM DIR-615 shud have? I mean, on WAN setting,  I only know there shud be 2 Vlan Tag which is vlan500 and vlan600 rite? My dir-615 router ahve another 2 vlan which is Vlan209 and Vlan700.What is that for? Shud i erased it? Thks in advance
*
Should not be a problem to delete them. I'm using Mikrotik router and have to create vlan 500 and 600. I certainly don't have vlan 209 and 700 and everything still working fine.

QUOTE(jtleon @ Jul 19 2012, 08:52 PM)
question on landed property installation.
there is a telephone box in my wet kitchen.
the TM green box (DP) is near my back lane.

so the unifi technician just need to activate the port in DP, connect it underground (main hole)....it will connect to my telephone box in my wet kitchen.

my second floor family room has phone port.  if my modem/router is placed there, i actually do not need any wiring right?

FTB would be my telephone box in my wet kitchen, and my modem/router can connect to the phone port (used as FWS) in my 2nd family room, right?

thanks
*
By your question above, I think you were thinking that UniFi is same as Streamyx. Unfortunately it is not, they don't use phone line to connect from FTB to BTU (aka "Modem") for landed property. They use VSDL modem only for high rise building.

I don't it is that simple for you. How big is your phone box? TM could probably pull the black fibre cable from green DP and out thru your phone box and mount the FTB beside it or inside it if your phone box is very big with lots of space. Then they need to connect the FTB to a BTU using white fibre cable. If you plan to have the BTU and Router in the family room upstairs, TM will need to pull the white fibre cable from FTB to your family room. How easy for TM to pull the white fibre cable from your kitchen to family room? Is there existing conduit? If not, there would be some hacking and drilling by TM contractor.

thanks for your reply.
No, seems very hard to prepare, as I don't know how they are going to run the wire.....
if i pre-hack or run conduit, and they cannot use it....it would be headache sad.gif

thanks...at least i now know what to prepare.

if non-standard installation, then there will be fees being charged?
*
Do you have a phone pit inside your kitchen before it goes to your phone box. It kind of like a small manhole on the floor. If there is none, there is also potential of blockage in conduit due to construction material. It happen to me when the fibre cable unable to pass from the pit to phone box. They hack the floor and let fibre cable come out from pit onto the wall instead. Fortunately the pit is in my store room and not kitchen. Look at that potential as well and plan for alternate solution.

Hello, I'm new here and I am planning to replace my stock UniFi router with either Mikrotik RB751G-2HnD or a TL-wr1043nd.

I live in a condominium and I'm planning on sharing the UniFi service with a separate house on the same floor (separated by 10m). We're also separated by two other houses in between. We wanted a router that could emit good quality signal that would reach both houses.

Each housing unit has three rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room.

I know that there's a percentage decrease in wifi signal for each wall and since there aren't any return policy here in Malaysia, I'd like to know from experienced users of these two routers on their performance.

I'd think the Mikrotik is probably a sure thing with regards to wireless signal but do you think the TL-wr1043nd would be sufficient?
*
I'm using this particular Mikrotik and the wireless signal is not very strong but better than DIR-615. Read about it as well, try google. This maybe due to internal antenna. So not sure if it will meet your requirement. It has a connector that you can attach an external antenna to it that might boost the wireless signal.

A heads up for those who have Maybank2Card.

It is now possible to pay Unifi bills with M2AMEX via M2U.

So now you can easily pay your Unifi bill online during weekends and get that 5% cashback as well as x5 treatpoints.  thumbup.gif
*
Maybankard2 online payment will count posted date instead of transaction date and posted date might not be weekend. Let us know if it did actually work as I'll use it as well. Currently paying using OCBC with 5% rebate anyday. Thanks.

Finally, sports channel in HyppTV. Including ASN and La Liga live matches too. Great acquisitions. I can see they will become strong challenger to Astro in few years.
*
Ya,noticed that too. Lack of sports channels has been achilles heel for Unifi. Hope this will be the beginning of more sports channels.

Haha.........I am also looking forward for this to happen.

Now HyppTV got Champions League LIVE, not sure will have BPL or not later. But if sure have, I will also stop Astro subscription and go for FULL HyppTV package.

But the problem is NOT SURE this current LIVE at HyppTV is only Introductory or not. Scare of later it become VOD and have to pay for these additional LIVE matches.

See how first.

My plan is this...........

To STOP Astro subscription and get the ASTRO NJOI package which just need to pay one time fees and enjoy all the other free family package.

Then, subscribe to FULL HyppTV package.

Guys, im using the default router provided from tm , but when im downloading torrent and play some online games , i will get disconnected from the game , that means the router cannot handle traffic right?
*
Yes, the stock router cannot handle the bandwidth. I experienced the same thing and dc simply went away after I replaced the router with better one. Before that I need to stop torrenting completely in order to play online games.

QUOTE(jack2 @ Oct 2 2012, 01:00 PM)
Just got UniFi coverage in my house area today.

Currently is using Streamyx.

Was told by the dealer that the UniFi installation structure is not same with Streamyx.

They need to lay the cable from outside to your house nearby TV and the iPTV needs to put beside your TV.

But I have one problem is, all my LAN cable are routed to master room (including previous telephone line), where the router and modem are placed there. From there, the LAN cable are routed to all bedrooms.

If to install UniFi to put the unifi modem beside the TV which is at living room, then all PCs/notebooks need to use WIFI connection liao.

Some more, need to cucuk lubang or whatever so the unifi cable can be laid from outside into my house?
*
Your problem is probably simpler than it sound. I assume you also have LAN cable from TV area to your master bedroom as well. You need to find the nearest point of entry for fibre cable where you also have a a network port. You might want to sacrifice the network port at this location and place the BTU here. Use this port to connect BTU to RG at your master bedroom. From there, use your existing LAN cable to distribute to other rooms. Place the IPTV at TV area and connect it to IPTV port on RG in your master bedroom.

You can play around with the network design here. Just need to remember that BTU connect to RG using LAN cable. RG connect to IPTV using LAN cable as well but on a special IPTV port on RG. If you need extra network port on RG, just buy a switch and connect to one of the RG network port. You cannot mix IPTV and network because they are on separate virtual LAN (VLAN) unless you use VLAN trunking method (ie spend more money).

@jack2, do you have LAN cable to your TV area?
if yes then install all the stuff in the bedroom and just need 1 LAN to IPTV box.
if not then just need to get home plug to connect to TV area.
else...just ignore the IPTV...just use it as pure internet access only.

For me...i install the BTU in the bedroom, then LAN cable down to TV area. router and all installed near TV... then LAN cable up to bedroom for my PC tongue.gif
*
I installed BTU in my store room at the fibre entry point from underground. RG is located in my family room cum network center where my 8-port gigabit switch is located. I trunked both network and IPTV VLAN to my living room where the IPTV decoder is located. I trunked them so that I can connect my media player at living room to the network as well since I only have 1 LAN port there.

*
I'm using it for a many months already. Mikrotik is not for newbie as there are lots of stuff to configure and klseet.com steps would not work right as-is for this model.

using the Alcatel-Lucent  , just wan to change to a single unifi , don't want to waste so much electricity  blush.gif  tongue.gif
so its either tplink 1043nd or 841nd just in my budget round RM150
*
If just to save electricity, don't bother as the ROI is several years. For every 10W your device consume, it will cost you about rm22 per year, assuming TNB charge at 25sen per unit. If you spend rm150, it will take you 3 years ROI for a 20W device.

There is a scam going on to get you upgrade to 10 or 20mbps. A telemarketer called me up yesterday and said there is a special promotion to upgrade streamyx or unifi to higher speed. It is now free instead of having to pay rm200. It will be done within 30 mins. They thought I'm stupid enough to not know that there is no upgrade fee.

Which microtik wireless router u recommend? the product seem very enterprise grade, cheapest router already cost RM319. Very reliable and stable?
*
Be prepared to get very technical when getting Mikrotik as you need to configure everything yourself. Have been using it for quite sometime and very reliable. Instruction from klseet would not work as is for wireless model, some changes required. Also need to create your own script for updating DynDNS as there is no option for it. Quite challenging to setup but the thing you can do with it is up to your imagination.

For TL1043, set up is easy, just run the cd and it guide you step by step.

May try Mikrotik if its better than TL1043.

BTW, which is the highest end model Mikrotik has (with wifi)  for unifi ??
*
I'm using MikroTik RB751G-2HnD wireless Gb router.
