Hi guys. Anyone staying in SS2?
I heard that the performance of Unifi and Maxis depends on the location..

So, how is the performance and stability of unifi in SS2?

Cheers smile.gif

guys, i have a slight problem with my unifi.
i set it up in another room which is on the same floor as my room but the wifi signal is very weak and causes lag when gaming online.

will a wifi repeater help? i read that using a wifi repeater will cause lags as well.
*
1 of the major isssue is you set it up in a room... If u wanna have good wifi performance the best is to set up in open area like living hall.

An analogy is, you set up a set of speakers inside your room but when you go outside, the volume (wifi signal) drops a great amount. You can get a good set of speakers (better router), or send the audio signal straight to your room (home plug).

This is not limited to TM's router. Even my gf using a good TP-Link router for her Streamyx, set up inside a room, even with door open cant get good performance in another room also. N the distance less than 15 meter! -.-

Whats your budget bro? N since you hav already set up the main wifi in your room, the repeater might not pick up the signal as strongly as u would want it to also. I think best is to use home plug...

If you wanna test how much delay your wifi is causing, you can:

CODE

Click start
Search "cmd" > open/enter/click
Type ''ping 192.168.0.1 -n 20'' or ping ''192.168.1.1 -n 20'' depending on your router address.
Wait for it to finish, basically you would want the ping time to be less than about 2ms.

ok i go back and check.

my pc is in my main room but the router is in the back room. TM couldnt pull it further when they installed it.
so its stuck there. and i cant move my pc too. worst case is i get an uber long LAN cable to connect to my pc but i have to run the cable along the walls and floor.
*
TM can pull further, just that they will charge u a bomb if exceed their 'standard' length.
My installation also, the contractor was rather lazy to guide the wire about another 5 - 10 meter to my ideal location. Give excuse the fiber cable cannot bend too much. When i have seen other ppl house, the cable can run like snake from the back yard all the way to the living hall no problem -.- But it's his loss cause i wanted to tip him about RM20 if he did a good job sweat.gif

Lan cable could do, but really long ones not that cheap too or messy. I hav frens running Aztech or Tp-Link home plug. The ping for games is quite okay because homeplug only causes delay about 2 - 15ms. Before homeplug, in rooms the ping to router can be as high as 50ms and sometimes packet loss.

Only worrying thing about homeplug is if your house electrical grounding not good and got lightning strike, there is always probability that it might fry the homeplug n your device together. Altho it's quite 1 in a million occurance, there is still risk.

http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/?categoryid=206
http://www.aztech.com/my/prod_homeplug.html

There are also UniFi ready routers, tp-link WR1043ND for example. Cheap n solid with really good range...
http://www.tp-link.com.my/products/details...L-WR1043ND#spec
If got budget combine all together n u will get solid performance throughout the house nod.gif

Good luck bro notworthy.gif

Cant see your pict, but i assume it's rj45 network cable from your BTU to Router...

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2519808&hl=cat5

This guy sells cat5e RJ45 cables, bought from his shop before 10m.
Longest he has in the thread is 20m, should suffice but if u need longer just pm him i guess, since it did mention 'customizable' cable.

Still cant see that pict, try searching garage sales network section, saw some fiber optic cables b4 but cant find it currently.

Won't recommend it cause you will need tools, proper cutters and connectors, plus 3m of cap ayam raw optical cable alone should cost at least RM50...

Hrmm, does anyone happen to know if the stock TM D-Link DIR615 rev G2/7.09 is compatible with DD-WRT? Am currently on the Biz10 plan, and there are loads of folks torrenting and leeching on the network which results in the internet being almost completely unuseable to the majority of the users. Planning on plopping down port mirroring to block PPS and the other heavy-load programs sad.gif
*
Hmm... Why not just block the ports completely? Eg. Port 900 - 65535
Since most critical web function ports are below 900, this should totally block access to heavy applications that rely on higher ports (most torrent programs)

But this might cause some applications like online games to be unable to connect to server if they are unable to fall back to redundant ports like port 80 (http)

Tried this before when i was at a hostel a few years back rclxms.gif pps totally blocked, torrent software 90% down, also some online games which i had to find out the port for my mates and configure accordingly.

Eg. Xonlinegame is port 1234-1235
So block port range 900-1233 & 1236-65535, that should leave that specific port open for access. Not sure if the programs are much smarter now but u can give this a try = )

I've tried blocking that same range (900-65535), but no dice. Somehow PPS managed to circumvent the filter, and it was hogging a good 90-95% of the bandwidth. In the midst of experimenting with WFilter at the moment, but right now it's only able to monitor just the host PC's usage as it requires port mirroring for the other computers in the network. Unfortunately enough, the damned DIR-615 doesn't have anything of the sort. Coupled with the dismal QoS settings available, it's starting to drive me nuts! Good suggestion tho hehehe smile.gif

Looks like PPS is now true port-hopping, which is a real headache.
You mentioned you wanna try DD-WRT on your G2, and it's been done before according to here:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2475049/all

Juz make sure u have a backup copy of the original firmware and settings in case. Idk how much you know or how good u are with this but just stating incase anyone wants to follow your footsteps notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Know the basics, how to do 30/30/30 reset or enter emergency flash room, read the guides etc...
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads
others › eko › BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2 (full ddwrt firmware list)

TM's G1 and G2 should be based on Ralink RT3052F, 384Mhz chipset.
Which is essentially same with 615-D, D1, D2 ,D3 and D4.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Suppo..._Devices#D-Link
Most stable firmware can be found here, just type in router model, it should lead to a firmware dated 2010/2011
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Idk how well will the RT3052 perform on port mirroring or QOS tho, seems kinda stressful for that chip
Also not sure if all revisions of the firmware will support iptable route commands for your mirroring rclxub.gif

M using DIR-615 C2, played with the qos before, create many rules and it was havoc, packet loss, sudden high pings etc. It was unstable firmware revision tho... In the end i changed revision and found out that putting the right up/downlink figures solved max bandwidth-saturation high pings. Really have to play around with it.

DDWRT also has TCP congestion control. All these should provide proper division control of bandwidth but with pps rclxub.gif good luck! notworthy.gif

Hi, just got onto the Unifi bandwagon as of last week. I was supplied with the Alcatel Lucent white modem. Does anyone know the login details for this modem (IP number, name and password) and whether it can be reconfigured like the Huawei unit?

Thanks.
*
ALc units do not have configurable options via web interface. It is done by telnet. I dont think anyone knows the password as even the TM techs just run a script via telnet to configure it... you dont really need to configure it tho as replacement router options dont require you to touch BTU

Unifi is effing with me. They have capped my 5 Mb/s at 4.8 Mb/s  vmad.gif  vmad.gif

Mine too... I guess if they save about .2Mbps per user... 100 user is 20Mbps, which mean can serve 5 more user? -.-' damnit
