QUOTE(regnox @ Feb 12 2014, 06:55 PM) of course, thats due to the fact that we have an integrated system between the engine and the battery powered part of it. so having a cvt in most hybrids isnt just due to the fact that it increases fuel efficienct by having the possibility to maintain at any or optimum revs. infinite gear ratio. a cvt is able to most effectively transmit these two types of output and combine them. I went to test drive the Toyota Prius (non-C) and I have to admit its acceleration and braking was very smooth like normal car (with smooth CVT). I love its futuristic simple gear knob. No jerks of any kind at all no matter how I drove just as I would drive HCH. Having said that, I am surprised to find Prius' NVH is not as good as HCH on the same roads. In addition I prefer HCH's dashboard and displays eventhough Prius' dashboard is also very good and functional. The original factory tint for Prius is not good at all because my arm was feeling the heat from the sun. I would have preferred if Toyota allows for non-factory installed tint so that I can tint it outside. [[Yes, I know I can take the Prius outside to have its tint removed and reinstalled...but with extra cost.]]the jerky feelin you feel is felt because the computer is trying to dictate which power to optimize at that particular time hence the jerk. eg. -from the instant you release the gas pedal computer switches to charging hence (jerk) -from low speed acc.. (jerk) -the amount of brake applied (jerk) because its a honda. we dont get the luxury of more premium hybrids such as the most common a6hybrid that fully isolates and drown out this jerky effect as if it is a normal petrol vehicle. Overall, I am happy with my HCH. Fun to drive and speed around Penang. |

Hello, anyone here that has driven your Civic Hybrid on Penang (or any small town with many traffic stops)? How was your fuel consumption?
Mine is rather poor with 12.8km/l (mileage of 3000km) because driving around Northern region of the island everyday...Georgetown-Pulau Tikus-Tjg Bungah with the longest road without traffic light being 2km along Kelawai Road. 100% City with lotsa traffic stops. No driving on Jelutong Expressway or to Airport and no Penang Bridge. Sometimes heavy footed, mostly light footed. My ECO rating for each drive (everytime I turn off the car) is usually 4 leaves, sometimes 5 leaves(max). Driving with ECON off. Engine oil still Honda stock mineral since day 1. Hope to hear your kind feedbacks and your sharings. Thank you. --- updated on 6 March 2014 --- I turned on ECON mode. drove gently and press lightly on the gas pedal. Now I can achieve 15km/l around the same city area. However with such driving, all the fun went out the window. No longer has POWER of dream. After 3 months of driving HCH, now with 3000+ km mileage, Engine oil is still factory Honda mineral oil(not changed yet). Tried Shell, BHP, Caltex.
100% highway for 400km at 95-115km/h speed, can only manage around 16.9km/l at best with ECON ON. Driving gently and smooth. 100% highway driving for 300km at 120-150km/h, ECON OFF, **Agressive acceleration and speeding**. I get 12.5km/l. 100% in KL city driving (speed up to 60km/h) with traffics stops around Kepong area. Around 14km/l. ECON ON and non agressive driving. 80%HW, 20%city KL Kepong-Ikea-LCCT driving (speed up to 110km/h) with very little traffics stops (mostly only Toll Booth stop). Around 15.7km/l. ECON OFF, non agressive driving. 100% Penang city driving with a lot of traffic stops around Georgetown. around 14km/l or less. non agressive driving with ECON OFF. 100% Penang city driving with a lot of traffic stops around Georgetown. 12.8km/l or less. **Agressive** driving with ECON OFF. Give me you thoughts. |

After several fuel pumps and manual calculations, I can safely confirm that the electronic fuel comsumption display on my HCH car is 0.1 km/l off. This is marginal therefore I can trust it. I cannot vouch for other HCHs though.

Thanks for sharing. Is the city u are driving in has many stops every 300meters?
I m starting to think that my non aggressive driving is actually not gentle enough...that is to mean with very gentle acceleration and deceleration. And keeping within speed limits of below 60km/h. |

Hey all, looks like the new Honda City fuel consumption is very good.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3112569/+960# To archive that 17km/l I have to drive around 80-100km/h on the highway. That's 'No Joy' for me at that speed. |

HCH fuel tank is 50 litre.
My driving has gotten about 14.4km/l on Penang Island with many stops every 300meters. That is with ECON turned ON. light footed. So full tank = 50 ltr x 14.4 = 720 km With ECON off and aggressive driving, i can get 13km/l. So full tank = 50 ltr x 13 = 650 km On highway with ECON on, i get at least 16km/l when driven at around 110km/h. So full tank = 50 ltr x 16 = 800 km I read that if you drive at 80-90km/h on highway, you could get above 18km/l. I am generally heavy-footed. it's very hard for me to drive politely and gentle-hearted. Hope the above info helps. |

QUOTE(ate @ May 7 2014, 03:55 PM) hey guys for full tank, how much of a mileage can you get in this baby during drives in the city and highways? Driving experience is excellent. With econ off, it can zoom zoom. On highway it is very comfortable even at 140km/h. In city overtaking and cornering is agile enough. Not easy to drive gently if ECON Off. On highway u can get from 110 to 140km/h easily in a few seconds without realizing it.Totally worth it or not? waht about driving experience, thinking of ditching my 5 series for this. When I want to drive kindly or gently i would need to turn Econ On. Hahaha. But i cannot tell u it is better than ur 5series or not. I have not driven ur type of car. I would guess your 5series is definitely more comfortable and very agile too. This post has been edited by lingyg: May 9 2014, 11:38 PM |

QUOTE(chungdavi @ May 24 2014, 08:40 PM) Hey guys, would like to know if any of you guys fully charge the IMA battery manually every 2 to 3 months to prolong battery life? According to the Honda salesman, it is done by pressing the fuel pedal with gear set at 'N' position, and maintain the RPM at around 3-4000 for 4-5 minutes. Honda Civic Hybrid 2013 and 2012 no need to do this.Haven't done this before, and didn't notice of anyone talking about it on the thread, so I'm wondering if anyone is doing this practice. Only Insight and previous generation Civic Hybrid needs that bcoz different technology. |

Finally I know now why my fuel consumption was around 13km/l. It was because I often stop and idle for at leat 5 mins waiting for wife to to grab something at the shops. Sometimes also reach 15mins idling....ie engine and are and is running.
So I tested recently by switching off the car and sacrifice myself standing outside or sitting inside car waiting. With that I can achieve above 15km/l in city with many traffic stops and go. All that with ECON OFF. When driving light footed on highway with Econ ON I can get above 19km/l easily. |

QUOTE(carlover88 @ May 30 2014, 06:45 PM) Hi guys would like to ask my hch during driving when going through rough roads there is rattling noise underneath the steering. Do you guys know what is the cause because it seems to rattle quite bad... Probably steering rack. This happened on some Honda City iDSI 2003 as well. It doesnt cause any problem to the driving nature, just the annoying noise. Some member had it resolved but many didn't becoz as usual most of Honda service centre doesn't know how or doesn't want to touch it. I had one such car and it is still working fine today after 11 years. My relative is driving it still. |
