hi all. actually i'm a big fan of train model. but i dunno how to start this hobby. oh ya, i bought one locomotive from ebay last year since the train look very tempting. unfortunately, until now i don't have my own track to play with it.

nice info there smile.gif
i'm using bachmann knuckle couplers with 3 different heights; low, normal and high. bought bachmann ones because of the cheap price. kadee couplers have more options but price also expensive.

let me know if you would like to borrow few of those bachmann ones to test on your locos. but some hornby locos really need some modification if you intend to change their couplings
*
Yes ... would like to try it. Bro can you show some pics of the couplers. I just ordered 3 kadee coupler from ebay to try on my hornby locos.

there's a hornby shop at BSC but last time i went there he was still selling analog sets. another shop will be nearby dewan bahasa dan pustaka, this one better smile.gif

let's hear from bro starfresh after this
*
Yeah ... I have been to BSC too sometime ago ...... very limited and pricy too (prefer ebay). Dai Kong (near dewan pustaka) mostly have Piko train sets (HO scale) but quite reasonable.

I heard there is one shop in 1 utama ......... any idea?

Hello guys. I'm Hazrin (scaleproject) from Penang. Before this I do static scale models. Just get poison into model railroad after visiting Trains N Toys in december 2012. Now, still searching for my starter set. Actually still searching for American locomotive starter set but still unlucky. Hope can learn more from you guys here.

P/s : now i already research about model railroad for 2 month plus until my brain cramp tongue.gif

2 most preferred scale are HO/OO or N scale.

HO scale - US (Bachmann) , German (ROCO, Marklin, Piko)

OO scale - Hornby/Bachmann/Peco (My preferred scale)

N scale is slightly smaller than HO/OO scale.

HO and OO scale are compatible in term of the accessories but the HO model is slightly smaller than OO scale.

Cheers ........... wink.gif

Hi mrave07. thanks for your explanation. Actually I prefer the HO scale (HO scale - US (Bachmann). I like the Santa Fe diesel locomotive design for example. But I don't know where to buy Banchmann kit. I think in Malaysia only have Marklin, Pico i think. Any source for Banchmann other than buy it online tongue.gif

Check on the Ebay .......... very reasonable.

Cheers ....... smile.gif

Purchased a Piko steam engine starter set for my autistic son.  He's really into trains.. he draws train, watch train in youtube, he creates designs railway layout in Train Simulator software, do trains using lego etc.  We purchased numerous number, I lost count, of the plastic train toys.  At the moment there two plastic train sets, I think we have thrown more than 50 sets.  Anyway.. he's into steam trains only.. not diesel or electric.

I think he can spend the whole day enjoying some of you guys fantastic setup.  I get to know about the local shops selling these kind of trains from this thread.  TQ guys.  Initially I thought of getting a hornby set online but I think it's better if I can see & test it physically.  I knew about hornby because my late grandfather have a set of mallard hornby & played with it when I was 6-7 yrs old.  Dunno what happened to the set.

Contemplated to purchase the digital upgradeable starter set but I'm not sure how my son will take care of it and it is expensive in the first place.  He normally take a great care of his stuff but I just don't want to take the risk.  If he really likes it then maybe I can add tracks and caboose later.  I also checked out the shop at Paradigm mall & they have cool stuff but the one in Dai Kong is more affordable.

Great ....... happy to see more and more train modellers in Malaysia ......... Lets expanddddddddddddd!

Pls check the ebay .......... much cheaper and a lot of choice to pick on. DCC set is much cheaper in Ebay (30% -40% cheaper).
