According to the DigiTimes, Apple is revising the new iPad's battery and dual-LED bar to fix the overheating problem investigated by Consumer Reports in March. Various tests revealed that the iPad 3 runs hotter than the iPad 2, however, Apple claimed that the new iPad is operating within its requirements.

Unnamed supply chain sources revealed today that Apple is revamping the iPad’s battery in an effort to reduce the heat emission. If the reports are true, the tweaked iPad will be "slightly lighter and thinner than previously designed."

The DigiTimes also reported that Apple is switching back to a single-LED backlight to address the overheating problem.

"The extra LED is reportedly adding to overheating and that using one LED will help solve overheating issues since more backlights along with more power to heat those backlights is causing overheating."

Returning to a single-LED backlight reportedly will not affect the clarity of the Retina display.

It was also reported last week that Apple has tapped Sharp to manufacture IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) panels for the new iPad design.

Yea i do heard of this regarding a modified iPad 3 which will be available soon silently. Just like Apple did for the iPad 2.

Which in other words Apple is silently admitting that current 3rd Gen iPad is a bit faulty ?

Yea, it can only be said as warm, and NOT OVERHEAT as it is common in laptop

hehe..don't really like Apple's attitude in not admitting to flaws/faults... and always claim they are the best in everything... in a way true sometimes...but now i can see sometimes not true as well....

remember antennagate issue? they can even blame the way user holding the phone is not right etc...

and this new ipad issue...warm is warm..but not as bad as ppl claim la...even if Apple don't fix this issue...to me...still OK....been using it without any problems so far....

i swear to god my ipad 3 i never realize any heat. maybe coz i don't play many games. but my kids play hours on games and when they hand it to me is only warm.

the antenna issue never happen to me , or frens around me though

A few of my friends have this issue, that is what holding me from getting one.
But when only I can know I will get the new batch of stock, I will just buy one now anyway.

New ipad is warmer than ipad 2. That's what I notice.

It is even warmer than my new laptop and galaxy tab

as market leader apple can definitely do better than that. Its good to hear they are doing something about it.

Yeah, just warer than iPad 2, can't consider it as overheating issue. You probably wont eve realize the difference if u put a backcase on it later on ur new ipad.

my new iPad doesn't have this heat issue
i didn't realize the heat except when putting on full brightness in a hot and bright outdoor. even without casing, playing infinity blade 2 barely feel the warmth. probably because most of the time my iPad brightness is less than half. (i wish i can make it dimmer because in dark, the lowest brightness still hurt my eyes)

and the battery problem was told in many sites in exaggeration
my battery was around 50% since 5/7/12 and i was marathoning 'big bang theory' for 3 seasons since then and only today i recharge it back from less than 10% to full cycle charge in less than 5 hours. its okay for me, or other people less fortunate, or every other new iPad battery is not the same

it seems like apple is going to introduce a revised model of new ipad soon, wonder is it still worth to get the new ipad now?

i dont think another new ipad gonna come out any sooner than next year
but there's probably mini iPad come out last quarter this year
