Paying for virtual item is not stupid. Some people don't have the time to farm whole day and they wanna be stronger or level up quickly. What can they do? They pay for their entertainment.

Now my DH resist to all around 650, can stand with elite and kill them in act 2 inferno. My DH build base to defense, I can kill the stupid elite if I still alive. I got dps build last time but one hit die so I give up. Now feel happy can tank elite..

dont keep your gold, either sell it as RM or buy higher tier items.... gold devalue way too quickly. if you save it... it will end up as nothing... you need a stable currency to hold on to the value.

to me, it depends on how much you spending it , not in terms of money value, but in terms of how much % it takes from your monthly income.
