Woah, thank you for all this info! I will just print this out and bring along  tongue.gif Pratunam Mall and Platinum Mall is definitely inside the list.
*
Pratunam is something like a big wholesale market. Platinum Mall is located opposite to Pratunam and it is a newer mall, wholesale style but a little bit more expensive than Pratunam because Platinum Mall got air-con inside whereas Pratunam wholesale market is open air and it can get quite hot during the day biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
Will read up on MBK as it looks a bit further.
*
MBK has changed a lot since the 90s. And i think it is not as nice as it was. Since you won't be in Bangkok for long, MBK is probably the mall you can skip because you can buy all the very cheap shirts at Pratunam tongue.gif

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
Will read up on MBK as it looks a bit further. I read that Siam Paragon is for upper range stuffs, so I will probably skip shopping here and have a look at the Gourmet Market if time permits, I am intrigued by your description.
*
Yes. Siam Paragon is a high-end shopping centre. But do not skip Gourmet Market if time permits, won't take you a very long time. It is a shame that no supermarket in Malaysia looks like Gourmet Market Siam Paragon sweat.gif

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
I don't see any railway line (?) connecting Pratunam Mall-Platinum Mall-Central World-Siam Paragon, so will have to use taxi for hopping.
*
Yes. Because there isn't. But if you want to save some money, you can actually walk from Siam Paragon to Central World, then go to the very back of Central World and come out from ISETAN. Right outside of ISETAN there is like 3 or 4 Buddha statues which you can pay your respect if you want to or may be take some pictures. In this place, there might be some people approaching you, telling you about Buddha Day, gemstone. Well, ignore them and pretend you do not understand them to shoo them off.

When you come out from ISETAN, turn left (as mentioned, got Buddha statues there) and just walk straight. You will walk pass a bridge, and soon you'll see NOVOTEL on your left. Congrats, you have now arrived at Pratunam rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
My Day 3 will look like this:
Hotel > taxi Pratunam Mall >  Platinum Mall > Central World Plaza > Siam Paragon > taxi to hotel. Any route that you think it is better to walk instead?
*
Yes. Take a taxi from D'Ma to Pratunam. Then you can choose either to walk as i suggested to Central World. But do note it's quite far too but i personally have done it a few times laugh.gif

If Siam Paragon is your last stop of the day, then yes. Do take a taxi back to your hotel.

By the way, Siam Paragon and Central World are next to each other. However, you still need to walk a bit and to avoid from getting loss, look for the Siam BTS Station right outside of Siam Paragon, then you can walk to Central World using the elevated footpath which is built right underneath the BTS railway.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
Quite hectic  sweat.gif and I still wondering whether to go to Baiyoke Sky Tower market. Or maybe put 1 mall to Day 1/2 night.
*
Baiyoke is in Pratunam. I personally have never gone in there though. And since you have nothing else other than Motor Show planned for Day 2, may be you can go to one of the shopping malls at night ? Or to go to shopping mall at night

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 04:12 PM)
Add: what is this gem shop that you guys are talking about? I got a feeling that the 'Jewellery shopping' in my itinerary refers to this place.
*
Definitely something like that. If it is possible to skip this place, then skip it biggrin.gif

Thanks again bro Miles. Looks like the place/route is covered  rclxms.gif
*
No problem biggrin.gif

By the way, i just have a look at your planned itinerary again. I suggest you to go to Siam Paragon/Central World in the evening either on Day 1 or Day 2. And then only go to Pratunam and Platinum Fashion Mall on Day 3. Pratunam is big. So i don't think you'll have enough time to go to Siam Paragon/Central World since your flight is departing for KUL at 9pm. Besides, this way you'll have time to go into Baiyoke Sky Tower, which is also in Pratunam. Have fun tongue.gif
QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2013, 10:47 AM)
Day 1
Arrive at DMK at 9am
Chao Phraya river tour with boat ride
Wat Arun for photo & lunch
Jewellery shopping
One way shopping mall or transfer to hotel for check-in only

Day 2
Round trip transfer to Impact Muang Thong Thani Ex Hall - Motor Show
(some of us might get bored and would like to leave the Motor Show after several hours. any idea on where to go nearby here)

Day 3
Free and easy.
Depart to KUL at 9pm

I notice that there are many tourists from India all over Bangkok. Any idea why?
*
Not just India, there are many European and North Asian tourists too. That is why they can support so many flights to Europe and North Asia from Bangkok whereas KLIA can't. Indian nationals like to go to buy SONY and Samsung LED TV. No, i don't know why laugh.gif

Anyway, i suppose you had a great time there ? biggrin.gif

YEP! The trip was great, but very short  blush.gif Guess what, I followed your instruction to walk inside central world, leading my troupe all the way out of Isetan and walla! the four face buddha shrine is just right there!
*
Woah!!! Great job bro! thumbup.gif If you walk a bit further (turn left) you'll reach Pratunam already.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Apr 2 2013, 01:09 AM)
now i know why Bangkok is synonym with shopping, things are just so cheap over there. Took a bus ride (just like the locals tongue.gif ) from Ramada to MBK, and then walked all the way back  sweat.gif I missed may other places so pretty sure there will be a next trip.
*
OMG!!! That's quite a distance man!!

Can even bring the whole family. Flight tickets are so cheap nowadays, even MAS is cheap during sale at RM380 all-in for a return ticket biggrin.gif

p/s Ramada D'ma is in sorry state

Sad to hear that. It was such a decent 4-star hotel 15 years ago. Had such good memory there as it was a family trip sweat.gif

How is the Songkran festival at Bangkok like?
*
People can simply pour water on you and you shouldn't be mad. Water on Songkran is good luck biggrin.gif

is it common before entering the taxi , one must really ask if they are using meter or fixed? afraid of backlash by taxi driver . tq
*
No. You don't have to. If the cab driver is going to use the meter, he or she will switch the meter on right away. If he/she isn't going to, he/she will make a lot of excuses. If this is the case, just get out from the cab.

return flight to BKK for RM 411 considered reasonable ?

Is this Air Asia ? MAS had this MATTA promo for just RM389 return per person. Yesterday was the last day to book this kind of fare.

Estimated chepar price? ... this morning try to look for lowest price mostly fall on weekdays ... weekend very hard ...
if go - lowest price but back - expensive

Actually b4 this promo begun ... they had promo travel period till 15 nov 2013 can get good price somemore travel on weekend ...
*
Only less than RM250 is cheap. Besides, MAS lowest all-in fare to BKK was RM389 (Matta Promo) which comes with 30KG luggage allowance, meals, unlimited drinks etc. + no credit card fee, it makes Air Asia looks very expensive.

yes i heard the same thing in the internet and gave it a try... Nothing happened to me. I bought most of my chocolates there , too tempting not to miss it. every Chinese tourist buying it and nothing happened.
*
I never faced any problem shopping for duty free items at Suvarnabhumi Airport either.

QUOTE(wildrestark @ Oct 10 2013, 08:15 PM)
I always find their 7eleven more interesting than ours. Even their nescafe in can is so much better than here but at a cost obviously. Their sandwiches n snack counter really have quality unlike ours.
*
Actually in Bangkok many things are a lot more advanced than Malaysia, the higher end places are more high-end than ours too. I suppose Thailand gives many people the feel that there are so many poor people there because this country after all, is home to more than 67 Million people (2011 stat) compared to ours at just around 28 Million people and wealth distribution is far from equal in Thailand. But if you go to the expensive places in Bangkok, there are always so many locals shopping there too and this shows that the middle class population in Bangkok is actually far higher than Malaysia (67 Mil vs 28 Mil after all biggrin.gif )

QUOTE(munkeyflo @ Oct 9 2013, 05:59 PM)
Yup. 400B is the standard price if you get the hotel reception to get a taxi to come to the hotel. I paid 400B as well for hotel to airport, and it was around 6am somemore.
*
QUOTE(crazyivan @ Oct 10 2013, 01:49 AM)
Well maybe i got cheated as he never the toll way... how about the standard price for suvarnhabhumi airport?
*
Not sure what is the normal taxi fare to Don Mueang International Airport now as last time i set foot at that airport was back in late 2002. My dad told me back then it was less than THB300 including toll and this was in the late 90s to early 2000s. It's been so many years, so THB400 isn't too bad i think smile.gif

From Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pullman Bangkok Hotel (not in Pratunam area but very very near to both Pratunam and Siam Paragon), it is around THB220 (meter) + THB50 (need to pay this THB50 if you take the cab from the airport taxi kiosk), so it is just THB270.

From Pullman Bangkok Hotel to Suvarnabhumi Airport, normally the taxi driver will ask for THB300 to THB350 including highway toll fee. I always offer them THB300 or there is no deal.

QUOTE(Kayne @ Oct 11 2013, 05:19 PM)
Hmm.. any weather update from people there?

I heard its going to be thunderstorm + heavy rain for the coming whole week

It rains on and off everyday but there was no thunderstorm, not so far anyway.

Depends on the travelling date also, best is to check using www.wego.com.my to find the cheapest flight available.
*
Websites such as kayak, wego, skyscanner still have so many flaws. It would still be best to check with the respective airline website individually. For instance, Malindoair return air ticket to Bangkok is cheaper than Air Asia on so many dates for next month but wego is not showing it.
