*touch wood* my 1.6 auto GB so far no problems at all, first batch 1.6 some more

4 speed cars of course can save more because of the 4th gear....90km/h less than 2.5K, around 2.2-2.3K on road

hi guys
Wira 1999 1.3GLi (M) A/B (MMC ECU) here
All stock exept rims.

I have been battling high FC for a few months now. It increased dramatically and I cannot figure out why. cry.gif I have not been keeping track of the mileage but a few days ago after taking advice from a few people I went ahead and did the following:

1. Change oil filter + oil (castrol)
2. Change spark plugs(proton)
3. Performed engine tuning
4. Changed air filter

These were done at EON service. After doing so I filled up the tank and got approx 360 km(City + H/way) before the orange light came on. Not much difference with or w/out air con. Thats pretty bad from what i've read here. Still the same prob. According to the proton mech, high FC is common for my model as the car is heavy.

Secondly, I would like to know from those who have got their engine tuned at proton before, how long did the process take and what was involved? Mine took less than 5 mins. He connected a MMC handheld device to the port under the bonet release lever and it showed my engine's rpm. Then he took a jumper wire and shorted some wires at the engine compartment, checked the device again and it was finished. Is that how its supposed to be? The tuning costed RM15 rclxub.gif

Third, when my fuel indicator needle is anywhere below 1/2 tank, and i stop at a traffic light and take off again or make a sharp turn, the needle would drop a little, as if it took up that much fuel to get the car moving. Is the float in the tank faulty?

I would appreciate any thoughts on the matters above. thanks
BTW I'm not heavy on the gas pedal, at least not since the FC increased. I try to keep it engaged in the highest gear with the least acceleration possible.

kazami : Wira 1.6 all is using 4G92P engine, only after year 2000 the ECU changed from MMC to Siemens. 1.6 and above cars all have disc brakes for both front and rear.

niveksedroul: The needle will flunctuate when taking a corner is common among all Wiras. It is because it is away from the sensor while cornering. About your FC thingy, your driving condition is mostly city or highway? If its highway, should have more mileage and I agree 1.3 is a bit underpower for a Wira, no matter wether it is a Sedan type or a hatchback type. At least the 4G15 engine is minimal for performance.

I own an 8-year old 1.5GLi A/B Automatic (against my will), and it has been a real bane ever since I had it. Problem here and there, but I'm trying my hardest to actually live with it......

I need some advice. The FC of this car is absurdly horrible, and I'd be blessed if I can even obtain 300km on a full tank. To top it all off, it's so bloody sluggish and even a sloth can take it on anyday. What should I do to increase it's performance and at the same time, reduce it's fuel consumption? And one n00b question: does installing a custom air filter and a slightly larger exhaust increase performance without sacrificing FC? Many thanks in advance.

EDIT: typo

Those aftermarket air filters will sure increase your perofrmance as it lets more air in. About the exhaust, well it does contribute some performance but it will be noisy, if you want power I recommend you change the extractor to 4-2-1 from Zenden or powerzsone. Hot bits 1 is the same as Zenden. The exhaust change to S-flow so that your torque will not be sacrificed in the lower rpm range.

Do regular service too, change engine oil, check your tyre pressure and etc

I see...but considering that more air is let in, does that mean that more fuel will be used for combustion? As for the exhaust, I'd actually like a little more noise, though not as much as those sonic boom ricers.

I'd also like to enquire, what does 4-2-1 denote? My guess is that 4 is the number of pipes connected to the engine, 2 is the number of pipes (located at the undercarriage) connected to the 4 pipes from the engine, and 1 is the number of muffler attached. Is that more or less correct? And again, will my FC be affected negatively by these add-ons?

I'm using an AT, so will I see marginal performance gains if I install the filter and change the exhaust? How do I tweak the transmission to increase performance, or do I have to change it completely?

Thanks for the inaugural reply.

More info on the exhaust systems, you can take a look at soulfly's pinned thread

AFter u install the air filter and exhaust, you should feel better pickup as well as performance. About the transmission, the gear ratio is set in the factory already, so just use it lor or change to a better ratioed auto GB/manual GB

So that means I can't do anything about my oh-so-screwy transmission right now? Oh man.....I don't wanna go through something so tiring as having to swap the transmission. But that aside, how much would it cost to replace it? I'd rather not pay more than 1.5K to do that.

1.6 4G92 is good actually as I myself am using 1 smile.gif Eat fuel fast must be due to your driving habits, under load, driving conditons or the car not properly maintain. The engine is tuned here locally, just the parts are taken from Mitsubishi. The engines that are in our hood is the Proton version hence the P at the back of the engine code XD

definitely less than 1.5K, for a good deal you need to scout for it at chop shops
