Hi All,

Recently I change my tires and the shop say it is going to close, so can't do alignment for me. And he said the alignment shud be alrite if i did alignment not long ago. I noe anything tat touches the tyre (replace, change suspension, bush, etc) will need to do alignment, bcoz for sure it will run.

when i drive, it is totally run. my steering is turning to the right, but my car is straight. when i put straight, the car move to the left. Anyway, i juz feel tired to argue n bring the car to other shop to align. n the shop fella told me alignment 30 for 4 wheels. alrite, sounds reasonable, so ask him proceed.

half way, he ask me go see wif him. say camber setting run, 1 side 0.7, another is about 0.3. so he said tis will makan tayar. ask me wan adjust o not, 1 side RM30. it is the behind tyre which is out, the front is ok. i was like a big O n i remember i changed tat so called adjustable nut before n they said after change, adjustment will be in a cheaper price.

well, i reject his suggestion n said "juz do alignment to make it straight". then he said "ok, i will try to align the best". there he goes n said done, paid 30 n go. once on the road, i cant feel any difference b4 i send to him. still one sided, same angle. so i felt kena con, very angry n wont go back to him. so patiently i waited till the next day i sent to the shop i change my tires.

so he said ok, alignment, RM 30 for 4 wheels. when doing alignment, same thing happen, camber lari, same angle bcoz din adjust at all. n same thing RM 30 for 1 wheel, so both wheels RM 60. I am kind of pissed off, n ask y so expensive? he juz tell me, "market price". well, market price, try no nego till it is RM 50 for both, yet for me still expensive. So continue let him adjust, in total camber + alignment = RM 80.

Half way adjust, he said "bad, rear lower arm cant adjust. adjust camber, alignment run, adjust alignment, camber run. lower arm rosak." well, ok, rosak, how much it cost, RM 150 for 1 lower arm. and my angry level is on the top, which RM 80 + RM 150 = RM 230. and previously i change the tires RM 390. so total i giv tis shop RM 390 + RM 230 in 2 days.

well, i juz change new tires, so i don hope it wear out fast n worse it is michelin. alrite, i argue n nego n in the end, alignment free means RM150 + RM 50 (camber, tis shud be free bcoz he change tat lower arm will 100% affect camber). So fine, i do it. paid off n go.

So now, i really confused. Few questions on my head:
1) Do camber need to adjust every few months?
2) Is adjust camber price RM 30? not even a nut change, it is juz adjust.
3) the lower arm i change is some other brand, not the original parts, n i ask the mech y not take ori, he said more expensive n not reliable. i was like "wut? original part not reliable?". do this lower arm cost so much?
4) Any good tyre shop o workshop do sifu2 here recommend tat it will do a good job n honest? i am tired of kena con here n there.

I have to agree with the rest.. Try to stick with one workshop and the tendency to be conned will be less. I send all my cars to the same workshop.. And now they start give me 'special' price already..

After all, I dont really mind paying extra RM10-RM20 for nearby workshop rather than drive all the way to klang which would cost me more than that smile.gif Once problem identified, go to your workshop your like the most and stick with them in the future

BTW TS, coming back to your story, I believe its better to check with few more workshop on your problem. Dont give them idea about the chamber, just ask what is the problem. If most of them find out its chamber problem, then chamber problem it is.

yes it's always like that. pity new car owners who has to change their camber every time sending to tyre shop. You can try racing z near balakong. never once ask me to change camber nut.

99% of the tires shop will quote you 30 bucks for the front camber screw and nut.

here is the answer to your question:

1) Do camber need to adjust every few months?
a : probably few month or even a year or so.
depending on the tires wear / road condition and driving style.

2) Is adjust camber price RM 30? not even a nut change, it is juz adjust.
a : yes. that is their standard price for workmanship. the only different is some shop do it better and some other,
lousy!

3) the lower arm i change is some other brand, not the original parts, n i ask the mech y not take ori, he said more expensive n not reliable. i was like "wut? original part not reliable?". do this lower arm cost so much?
a : you did not mentioned what is your ride but cheapest after market lower cost in the region of 1xx.

4) Any good tyre shop o workshop do sifu2 here recommend tat it will do a good job n honest? i am tired of kena con here n the
a. There are few. look for nestum or cheeann in garage sale. else, look for highly experience maddriver @ bernard.

I'm no longer a fan of electronic tyre alignment machines. From now on, this is my preferred equipment. They may charge a bit expensive, but they get the job done.

Well, depends on shop owner reputation. Alignment will never be straight and there's a range for it. Try asking your car dealer or service center adviser for the guidance. If the uneven wear not too bad, just leave it.

just today the tyre shop told me my camber lari, need to buy the screw for RM120. i said nevermind, maybe some other time. my belief is that whatever camber my tyre has, when i hit potholes and stuff, it will change my cambers again. so it will never be perfect. might as well just leave it, and who knows if i hit another pothole, it might change my camber to normal again.

every car got camber angle , its one of the angle in alignment
just whether the camber angle can be adjust ornot only!

and saga LMST camber angle CAN be adjust AFTER u change to adjustable camber bolt
the bolt ALLOW u to adjust the angle only , but not 1 time job ( after the bolt the angle wont lari anymore)

pls dont think Camber is conman stuff from tyre shop !
camber can reduce pulling 1side / better tyre wear

camber certainly is not conman stuffs but it has been abuse rampantly by 90% of tyre shops in Malaysia.

I think this tread should be pinned, so that more people is aware (more of BEWARE) of this "chamber nut" thingy.

I went to change my all 4 tyres today.  So naturally request to do the alignment also.  Then, the tyre guy told me i need to do chambering also, he said if want to do is +RM 120 for front set and another RM 120 for rear set.  shocking.gif yawn.gif  yawn.gif  I looked at my old tyres which is now laying on the ground, didn't see any uneven wear or eat one side type of wear.

I was very very puzzled rclxub.gif , as i thought alignment means align both the Toe and Chamber????  So i told him that last time i've ALREADY changed (read: CONNED cry.gif  doh.gif , at another tyre shop) my front to the "adjustable chamber nut" already.  So you should be able to adjust it no problem.  Then he told me no need to buy new adjustable chamber nut, but still to adjust the chamber need RM 60.  So front set RM 60 + rear set Rm 120..... total Rm 180 shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif

So i told him no i don't want do chamber, just continue do your whatever alignment it is.. sweat.gif

I really do think need to pin this thread to bring awareness to all

Edit: Should be pinned under "Tyre Talk" i think? hmm.gif

Just reposting the my reply in another thread. As I think we really need to raise the awareness on the Chamber Nut/Bolt thing during wheel/tyre alignment
