Can someone recommend a reasonable hostel or hotel in Osaka?
*
We are staying at Hotel Consort Osaka, about RM300/night for double/triple, all-in, in mid-Dec. Looks good.

Any advice on how to move from overall airport - station - hotel ?
*
Use bags with wheels, Japanese footpaths friendly to bags like this, so just pull, and yes, try to get hotels near stations.

i read in previous thread that there is no car park at the embassy and one can use LRT and stop at Ampang station, then walk to the embassy. However, Google map shows ampang lrt station is 5.k km away. I miss anything?
*
850m walk from the LRT station. You can also park at Prince Court Medical Centre and walk just 500m to the embassy.

In Japan, train rides a must!

A collection of clips of the JR shinkansens (bullet trains) plying the Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima route with top speed of 300km/h, and of the Fujikyu Railway for a memorable trip to Mount Fuji. (December 2012)

What is that thing (data displayed on your phone), a GPS?
Realtime speed of shinkansen in km/h, plus other GPS data. Pause the video and take a look.

Is it possible to use GPS at tokyo without data plan? If yes, which apps (android)?

...
*
Just use Google Maps offline. Open the areas that you want to travel in when you have wi-fi, which are saved in cache automatically. When traveling, just run the map and you should be able to access it offline, without data connection. Of course run GPS with it.

Also, from the lake at togendai (last station for the ropeway, are you able to view the red torii gate)? And which stop can get the Mt Fuji view?
...
*
If you are after Fuji-san, best is go north side, i.e. at Kawaguchiko.

just walk2, see many restaurants, read menu, see plastic food, ask if possible, sure can find good stuff. at train stations, got bento boxes. same process. so never took note of names. sorry. biggrin.gif

btw the sotong/ikan bakar one (pic #2), we found next to kyoto station. that was the best. my squid set cost 700yen, the fish one 900yen, iirc.

I think have to add this on pg 1 about halal food in Japan by Mat Spuknik ...too many ppl repeating the same question.
*
'halal' ... because there's no certification. one thing about a traveling muslim is that, you spend time looking for 'halal' outlets, and when you get there, you see 'halal' inscriptions, some quranic verses on the walls, maybe a pic of mecca. and in many cases there's also a bar with beers and hard liquors. so you just have to trust these guys, right, because there's no way to confirm it. like this 'halal' restaurant in danang (vietnam) -- the counter has a pic of jesus on the cross, so i asked, are you a christian operating a halal restaurant? yes, he said, but all my stuff come from a halal supplier in saigon!

obsession with 'halal' foods can sometimes take the fun out of traveling. so take it easy lah. as for me, during my travels (esp. to odd places) as long as i see rice, bread, pasta, fish, eggs, vegies, i deem them all 'halal'. of course no need to check out the kitchen lah. take the journey from lhasa to everest base camp in tibet, say -- all stops are at decrepit, dark eating places, which only serve every known body part of a yak. so how? smile.gif
