Sure no problem. I brought a couple of
those to Japan 2-3 weeks back in my luggage.
But I don't see the point putting it in your hand carry though.
You're not gonna eat it on the plane are you?

well, im planning my trip in early nov and let me know what you think of my plan

1) day 1 - reach airport, take bus to hotel @ shinjuku and then shop around that area at night

2) day 2 - shinjuku

3) day 3- shibuya/akihabara

4) day 4 - Ginza/akasuka temple

5)day 5 - depart to airport

main purpose of trip - shopping, less sightseeing .

biggest challenge i have now is
1) hotel ( budget 400-500) for 2 pax - wanna stay at cosy motel that is near to the train

2) transport - my friend told me to take bus to the sentral station then only take cab to hotel. hmn....

Hi All,
I'm a silent reader here. Gland a lot of sifus here.
Need your suggestions:
I'll be traveling to Osaka end of this month for 6 days  and not really prepared itinerary. My rough itinerary:

Osaka:
Will be arriving in the morning, hotel can only check-in at 3 pm, so plan to
-go to rinku as it's nearer to KIX
- will check-in hotel after 3 pm.Hotel in Umeda
-not sure, either to castle or Namba/Dotonbori

2nd day:
- osaka castle
-aquarium
-
3rd day
- Kyoto
-kinkakuji
-nishiki marker
-kiyomizudera
- gion

4th day
USJ

5th day
- no plan yet

Dear Sifus, can you comment my itinerary and suggest other interesting places to visit.

-Which is better to buy Kansai free pass or Osaka free pass.

Thanks

There are some alternatives, one of that is, if Rinku is just for you to hang around while waiting for ur hotel check in, u can leave ur luggage at that hotel first then start ur journey. Since u reach in the morning, I guess is about 9(for AA), u can get the Haruka & ICOCA package. By looking at ur plan, any pass just not worth it, unless u tweak ur itinerary.
For your first day, u may visit Osaka castle and one of the temple in Osaka, Shintennoji temple or Sumiyoshi taisha. Leave Dotonbori in the evening/night as the neon light start light up, nicer view.
For second day, besides Aquarium, Osaka bay have more to see, you may check it out. Other suggestions for the day would be shinsekai shopping street, umeda.
Why not u move ur usj to the following date? Then only go for Kyoto and I suggest Nara and Fushimi Inari to be put in ur itinerary. In Kyoto, it's more to use bus and walk around. Kyoto have more to see, other than the above, Ginkakuji... U can start ur journey early in the morning to Kinkakuji, then hoop in to a bus to Ginkakuji, philosopher's path is up to u, from there u can walk down to south, will pass nanzenji temple which is worth for a visit. Then kiyomizudera. Nishiki market hav to go before 5pm. Gion is best in the evening.

Where are u intends to stay for the trip? It's all depends on ur convenient. IMHO, stay 2 nights in Kyoto for ur Kyoto n Nara trip. You would enjoy it more.
Just my humble opinion.

Thanks Sifu!.

ETA in KIX is 6 am as I'm flying with MAS. I plan to go to USJ either on thursday or friday because only that 2 days it will open till 9 pm, other days only until 6/7pm.

Where can i get Haruka & ICOCA package? OSAKA free pas also not worth?
In kyoto, I plan to take the 500 yen bus pass so that can cover whole Kyoto town. Unfortunatey, won't sleep in Kyoto 'coz I book all the nights in Osaka-Umeda. Lazy to check-in/check out.

Thanks again.

Hi guys, due to limited time, I plan to only making a day trip to Hakone from Shinjuku in mid-November. What is the earliest time to go there from Shinjuku to enjoy the beauty scene the most, probably Mt. Fuji view? And from my reading, I find these two alternatives of going there:

1) take train to Odawara from Shinjuku @ 850 yen and buy Hakone free pass @ 3900 yen at Odawara Station to Hakone.
2) buy Hakone free pass @ 5,000 yen at Shinjuku Station straight to Hakone.

Which one is better, not only in terms of pricing but other factore as well? Tq.

hi,

first of all, i'm in japan currently. thanks for this forum, i got lots of useful tips from LYN.

for google map, the price, duration, and transit, i can say as far as i use these several days, mostly are accurate. things i learnt to make life easier (sorry if this is a repeat if somebody already mentioned):

- always observe what is the exit number of the train station. i.e. one train station may have several exits, and sometimes to go to the closest place is using that exit. take the wrong exit, you'll still find that place, but you'll go round and round abit.
- take note of the train lines, the train direction, and the train station to make the transfers
- use Street View, it's helpful to visualize what is the landmark to go to certain place
- sometimes, the google map shows the duration based on Express train, not Local train (google whats the difference of Local, Rapid, Express, Limited Express). try check later and earlier trips to see the duration patterns.

have fun. (and rest assure, no matter how much we prepare, we still have to ask locals for direction tongue.gif )

i went last saturday, and just gamble by buying it walk-in. no problem.

but the queue for some of the rides are DAMN long (they also queue for toilets, to buy drinks, popcorns tongue.gif) . the longest i've seen i think is 150 minutes waiting time. even the FastPass tickets are finished.

i also notice when its lunch time, some queues become shorter, maybe locals go for lunch? dunno if u want to plan around for this.

Hi Sifu's, going to pure Tokyo next week...
here below is my itinerary draft, any advise please suggest to me...
Thanks.

Day 5
Yokohama (Day Trip) - Not Confirm Itinerary
- China Town
- Red Brick Warehouse
- Yamashita Park (200 Yen)
- Boat Ride (Charges Apply)

Train 620 Yen x 2 Return = 1240 : Shinjuku - (JR Shonan Shinjuku Line) - Yokohama (Not inclusive Yokohama City Train)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*
another option to get to Yokohama is Tokyu Line, Shibuya station direct to Minatomirai station, 440 yen.
oh and if you are a museum person, i suggest Cup Noodles Museum as well.

have fun.
