Guys,

My N55 is 5 year old too, but I stopped using it since 2015 because couldn't boot it up anymore.

It started back then when I tried to do fresh Win7 install on it and midway failed it just hang. Then tried to reboot cannot already.

I didn't check much because it wasn't a priority. Today I tidy up my room found it again stashed and felt kasian and wanna do something about it.

Here's details I can share so far:
1) Can't boot
2) When plug charger, can see orange LED, charger also lights normally so charger/adapter should be fine right?
3) Tried both with/without battery inserted also same
4) Known problem with my N55 since then was my GT555M card kaput liao, checked with a repair guy he confirmed it
5) I did serviced it by cleaning fan and apply new heatsink
6) Is it HDD at fault here? I feel reluctant to buy new HDD/SSD for it if that wasn't the case...so..send to shop again?

Just thought I'd ask here first. smile.gif

Even if HDD/SSD kaput, you can still see the BIOS during startup. Is there any beeping sound when you turn ON your laptop?

Gotta agree SSD is the best upgrade ever to my N45SF. I have dead battery, dead subwoofer port & dead USB 2.0 port. Other than that its still running fine.

I can still play CSGO and FIFA 17 on my lappy.

Just wonder what WiFi card u replace with? Any link to share? Thanks

I replaced it with Intel wireless ac 3160 HMC. Salvage the part from my friend's broken laptop. You can get it on ebay. I think the furthest u can go is by buying Intel Wireless AC7260 which is 2x2 Wi-Fi. The WiFi chips can be bought from eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/262903719342

Still using my N45SL. Can't play games or anything nowadays because of the crazy heat. Even idling, the temperature can go up to 70C. Doing any work will just put it at constant 100C. Changing thermal paste does nothing. Touchpad buttons don't work too.

I'm thinking of changing the fan but I'm not sure if it's just the fan that needs to be replaced. Couldn't find the heatsink replacement.

Recently bought a new battery because the old one couldn't even charge anymore. Planning to add a second HDD and maybe upgrade the wifi card.

Also, I don't know if other versions of N45 have this fancy boot animation and sound, but I'm trying to get rid of mine. It's so annoying when turning on the laptop in a library or something. The bios don't offer the option to turn it off, only lowering down the volume.

Same heat problems like mine. Thinking of changing the fan unit but not sure if it helps. Ori fan is working but if I'm not mistaken, it spins at the same speed, either on normal browsing or playing games etc2, hence heat build up.

Other than that, all still working fine here.

Bump. Just an update. Read somewhere that Asus PowerHybrid is the cause of my constant-speed fan, even when I do some graphic stuffs. Uninstall PowerHybrid, then download Notebook FanControl. Now the fan works in keeping heat in control. Full blast when doing some light gaming. Happy user once again. All works just like a new unit.
