I'm confuse about this aosp & aokp. At 1time i flash aokp kernel with aosp rom & got hang. How to tell which rom is using aosp/aokp, ie: cm is what? What are the differences & better for user?

guys i flashed to paranoid 1.9.5 a few days ago now when i try to flash to cm9 I noticed the cwm icon suddenly missing. what happen & how to re-install back? rom manager & superuser is still intact.
non-g version.
btw do i need to flash the siyah kernel separately or just flash cm9 rom will do?
