ask them, why did you get rotan?
emphasise what they have done before rotan..

I was lucky I had a good discipline teacher.

everytime rotan budak, he will ask the student, what they done wrong. and he will tell them, I rotan bukan nk pukul, but to teach..
then zasss....

I can go one better. One time just before my discipline teacher rotan me he asked, "In a blackjack game when a player wants another card what must he say to the dealer? If you get it right I won't whack you." I said "Hit Me!" then he said "Ok if you said so!"
