Developers will want all channels of available audiences from all the places, meaning if you develop a app for WP8 but not WP7, you will lose the audience from WP7 just WP8 exclusively. However they would want to have a piece of WP7 too, mostly they will start building apps that supports WP7.x & 8 

It's really hard to say in the future. If Windows 8 is the main driver for Windows Phone 8 (meaning developers are developing for Windows Phone 8 simply because they are ALREADY developing for Windows 8), then developers will take notice of that and simplify their coding through the 'shared core' that Microsoft was talking about.

By 'sharing a core', I believe this would mean an app that is compatible for WP7 will need to be separately built, meaning less developers will be interested in that extra work for a small market share. (WP market share is only around 1% now.)

But at the same time, Microsoft is continuing to recommend developers to use XAML/Silverlight to code apps for both WP7 and WP8. Microsoft is only recommending native code for game developers.

So it really depends whether companies will go all-in with 'shared core', or have some sort of separate development for all Windows Phones.

To those who have used WP7, I know that it has Whatsapp and other social-based apps. Does it has Viber as well? I am using an Android devices now but planning to get one WP7 phone for the calls, texting, Viber or Whatsapp, perhaps the occasional FB and browsing, listening to music while waiting at the airport and whatnot. How is the battery life on average use? No need to mention the other aspects like resolution and brightness, and all that shenanigans. All I care about it the battery life, and a bit on the performance on the browser and the said apps. I tried it and WP7 basically is fast and smooth but havent been able to try the apps that are using internet connection to function.

Thanks for the input. I have read about the Whatsapp issues as well, but im sure they will come up with updates as well. As for the battery life, I am looking at one of the higher end models for Nokia, as I prefer Nokia's expertise in hardware  Care to share what phone are u using, and average battery life?

any news on HTC 8X coming to Malaysia carriers? Not many getting on the Windows Phone ship. Only Digi sells Lumias. Maxis even jumped off the ship lol.

I'm not big fan of the 920. I don't know why i'm always drawn to HTC phones.
