Hi all,
I want to share my experience with the FTTH installation last Sat 7th July 2012. The TM contractors arrived early (2pm instead of appointment time of 2.30pm) to my surprise!, and the Maxis guy arrived on time. It took them 2 hours for installation but they couldn't get a good signal at the router end (it was close to 38dB) although the reading at the pole was 18dB.
One of the contractor from TM wanted to go ahead and finish up the installation with this, but another did not and wanted to find out the root cause of the high signal loss so it took them another hour to find out that the connector was problematic and they went and bought a new one from a nearby shop. The reading at my end was then around 19dB. So make sure you find this out from the contractors and ask them to show the meter readings to you - as some of them would take a shortcut and proceed anyway!
The Maxis technician was a newbie, basically fumbled though the entire router configuration - he did not even know my account number and told me not to touch the router settings, including the default wireless passwords as he did not know anything - all the initial config. was set by TM contractors and they left after rebooting the router and they did not want to wait for it to start (and i let them leave thinking that this Maxis guy would know but i was gravely mistaken)
Couldn't get my VOIP phone to work as well and after a few reboots it was working. So the entire installation took like 3-4 hours. Speedtest is good for local servers, around 9.5MB for both download and upload and ping <50ms
