reporting back on the xDSL linestate down issue

the maxis guy came in and swapped the old router with a new one... saying the one i've is an old one, problematic version... he told me basically that happened due to software auto reboot(although there is no physical reboot)

it's only an hour so i am not sure if it's ok... but so far there is no xDSL linestate down in the event log

i ping -t 8.8.8.8 and there is a few downtimes... but no xDSL linestate down in the event log... i do a test by surfing aggressively, opening a few new tabs in chrome and there is no hang(previously it'll hang when there is downtime)... but i notice it's a bit slower in generating the page... maybe this is how the new firmware in the router works... slow it down when there is burden to avoid the disconnection message

but one thing i am sure is this new router is generating a lot of heat... i am starting to worry now... the heat generated in an hour by the new router is now surpassing the heat generated on my old router in 15 hours

perhaps the router has frequent disconnection issue but not generating excessive heat... the new router has no frequent disconnection issue but generating excessive heat

my guess is maxis is giving you the one that generating low heat, and will swap to the one that overheat fast when you notice the xDSL linestate down... i am sure they know the issue, just keep quiet... now i just hope the new router will not overheat and auto restart physically

i'll report back if the new router working fine past midnite today... if it's ok by then, i guess the new router solved the xDSL linestate down issue

What your new Thomson router software version? My 1st router is 8.4.3.I, replacement 8.4.3.S. and now 2nd replacement 8.4.3.U

wah, lately so many complaint about maxis guys

the maxis guy who came to my house said the installation for maxis guy will increase from 2 a day to 5 a day... i guess this could be the cause of latenees

Added on July 13, 2012, 2:55 pm
mine one ok thus far... could it be 8.4.3.U(BX)... do you have BX at the back on the firmware version?
*
QUOTE(danieltay @ Jul 13 2012, 06:38 PM)
wrong statement... tm contractor must wait until everything is up, especially voip... mine the tm modem got problem, voip cannot connect... nasib baik the maxis guy is v.experience, know it's the tm problem and refuse to sign the form to let the tm guy go... if not, kaput lah my installation

somemore tm guy very rude, insist it's not their problem, keep giving excuses and trying to leave so they can go for 5  more installation.. imagine the time is already 4pm!

i've waited the tm guy for more than 1 hour... never say sorry... some more got problem wanna rush, dun care

Added on July 13, 2012, 6:46 pm

mine no more... but i suspect the firmware upgrade is just to do away with the reporting... because sometimes hang also but not in the event log

seems like we've to live with it as long as we're using this thomson shits!

this maxis very clever, not reporting in the event log so no one making noise.... because when i do ping still got downtime leh
*
Thomson page show 8.4.3.U Only got small sticker 8.4.3.U(BX) at the back of thomson router.
when surf time did u encounter page cannot load and need to refresh to let if load properly?

Yes, exactly the same... But not sure why mine is not displaying the xDSL linestate down

Can you check on the Thomson Gateway -> Configuration

Is your Web Browsing Interception set as Automatic or Enabled?
*
It was set as Automatic. What about your and what that for?

Mine is Automatic too... That is used to record Internet connectivity... I was thinking why yours is showing whereas mine is not... Perhaps there is setting to prevent Internet connectivity record... Because I can feel it sometimes do hang while browsing, and if I ping -t 8.8.8.8 there is request time out
*
Should i change it to disable On Thomson Gateway > Configuration > Configure > Web Browsing Interception ?

Mine is automatic as well.

QUOTE(wokan @ Jul 14 2012, 11:39 PM)
Daniel, that address probably a device used by Maxis technician who came to replace yr router. Anyway, that Mac address would be dissapear from the log file after a while. I not sure whether a reboot would do that or after a period of inactivty for that device, it would be drop out from the log file.

As for "xDSL linestate down" message, my router log do shows. It is most probably due to line SNR noise that causes the connection to drop/reconnect. Although it is intermittent drop, you probably will notice it if the page you are viewing is slow to load.

I stay in condo, so it is still using copper telephone line which would carry some noise and you can check the setting
in the ONT device (TM device). The SNR would be listed there on the xDSL tab. Mine SNR margin on the download shows between 20.8db to 21db.

Those stay in landed property, please post whether the log file shows the message "xDSL linestate down" as the fiber configuration is different from condo.

Thanks.

how to check ONT device?

Before you buy the expensive homeplug, you may want to consider this alternative solution with zero cost.
I solved the weak wifi signal problem with my redundant wifi router Linksys WRT54G previously used for Streamyx.
I just changed the Wireless setting of Linksys to AP mode and plug it LAN to LAN to Thomson.
Now I have 2 SSIDs, one from Linksys (stronger) and another from Thomson (weaker).
Speed test done indicated no different in speed and latency.
Thomson router performance dropped when too many wifi devices logged in at the same time so I hope Linksys can share the load and solve this problem too.

If want full signal even 2 houses away, buy this high gained USB Wifi adapter (if you are using PC or laptop).
I got one extra unit (in sealed box) to let go for RM50.

Where can I terminate the service?
You need to walk-in to any Maxis Centre. A penalty of RM500 is applicable should you terminate the service within the 24 months contract period.

still face the intermittent disconnection issue. All lights will be like normal and even the thomson will say internet is connected but no machine can online until i manually disconnect and reconnect or wait longer than 10 minutes maybe. Most of the time i face this issue i will go manually connect/disconnect.

The timing for it to happen seems random, can be few day once, or few times within a couple of hour.

For the record, I'm on Public IP setup.

Apart from that, consider everything else normal la.
