Hi HappyGuy, my previously used for 1mbps streamyx linksys router is also the same UFO router, WRT54G2(mine is v1).

Could u teach me how to setup Access Point with WRT54G2?
Sorry please tell me the detailed settings for WRT54G2 and also for the Thomson? sad.gif

======================================================

And......

Who could tell me how to check whether I'm on Public IP or Private IP?
I didn't ask for change of IP type since installation. So mine is in default (according to first post, should be Private IP in default).

But I checked via IP detector websites(eg. http://www.ip-adress.com/ , http://whatismyipaddress.com/, blabla..) and all show 14.192.x.x (IP format just same as those IP in picture posted by public IP member).
Summore everytime I reboot/reconnect router, the IP will change(like 14.192.x.1 becomes 14.192.x.25) everytime as usual.
So this means I'm Public IP? But...
when I check in Thomson router page(Home > Broadband Connection > Internet Services > eInternet), IP address stated in the page is 10.x.x.x(I know this is Private IP because it starts with 10 due to the reason of the IP range of 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255 are Private IPs).

So conclusion is I'm actually on Public IP or Private IP??? rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

To setup the linksys router as access point, just need a network cable, plug it to LAN port in Thomson router, and another end to WAN/Internet port of linksys router.

My router already flash to use dd-wrt firmware. so my steps may not apply to u.
you may check out this link to setup.

Once a while, I'm getting this speed over Wifi network (any MHF user here can better this ? tongue.gif).
However. while DL speed test, the meter needle was only hovers around 2 to 3 Mbps range for the 1st half of DL test process and then a sudden burst/spike of speed at the end. (Observe the yellow circle)

10 out of 10 tests, the speed test demonstrated the above behavior, spike of speed towards the end. Anyone can explain this ? hmm.gif

i can only tell you speedtest is not 100% accurate...
use direct connection for a better result but still just treat speedtest result with a grain of salt

Finally after 10 days of bashing maxis through twitter, email, call & maxis forum, I got a call today installation on 27 July.

I did warn them about making sure TM contractor show up on time as well.

I guess complaining to MCMC really work. Plus I get the promo price RM118 for 10MB.

I just got a 2nd call from maxis regarding my complaint to MCMC, dam nice fella apologizing this & that. Good that they finally follow up even after 10 days.

Guess MCMC really POWER !

anyone can confirm how to save the Thompson config file?

even i login with admin previlege the option is not there (while the generic Thomson router should have the option)

I can't afford to configure my routing/port fwd configuration all over again in case the router down or something

The interface is damn too slow
*
I just save Thomson TG784n settings last night.
To save config, just login as any 1 of the Admin privilege account(s) (I mentioned in plural because I created another Admin privilege account with my chosen username, so now I have 2 admins and 1 user account),
then now follow this path (Home > Thomson Gateway > Configuration > Backup & Restore) or just click this link http://192.168.1.254/backup.lp?be=0&l0=1&l...=BACKUP_RESTORE , then select 'Backup Configuration Now...' and choose destination folder to save config file. The config file is "*.ini".

Sorry I can't find any 'access point' word in both links you've given. cry.gif
Nvm you just teach me in your dd-wrt firmware way (goto what what and set what what.. bla bla..), I will try to apply and test by myself by referring yours. Please..

=====================================================

One more question:

Does anyone know that whether this Thomson TG784n router can limit "the max amount of connected users/devices (or like set max DHCP users)" or not???
I would like to set to 10 as max amount of devices.

TM guy will be late for sure because they are on commission basis, they more they do, the more they get... So they arrange more appointments than they can handle in a day... While the maxis guy is on fixed salary, only two installation per day, plus will be scolded by maxis if late

Whether maxis guy or tm guy, they are contractor actually, except that maxis try to maintain reputation and quality.

maxis don't send contractors, they're actual maxis staff.

the tm contractors that came to my house say that they'd only do two installations a day, because there really isn't enough time for them to squeeze in more, what more with problematic installations.

having said that, in no way am i condoning any no-shows or late-comers from either maxis or tm. at least they must have the courtesy to inform.

Fingers crossed there wouldn't be any no-shows for my installation tomorrow. laugh.gif

Wouldn't mind for any of them to be late tomorrow (of course, if possible, on time), as long as it gets done right then and there.

All about $.

If Maxis pay more to TM while TM hired & pay more to their contractor / staff, problem solve.

Damn, i thought maxis automatically alloted the free 150 minutes to my maxis mobile already.
As the matter of fact, no free minutes alloted to my maxis mobile account yet. I need to call them, ask them and the CS replied " i need to check with the Home department first".
*
What is it Maxis?..I also thought it is automatically allocated to Maxis Mobile primary line..just check..my case same as yours...I going to call up Maxis tommorrow and scream at them...

Why can't Maxis do it properly for consumer rather than consumer have to find out this is not there and complain to them...another lousy service.

bro xVince, this Thomson router is known for overheating..This is known issue.. However, there is workaround
by just placing a notebook cooler underneath it and overheating issue resolved.

I am using one Cooler Master X-Slim Single Fan with quite stong wind. No issue with overheating at all.

Hope this helps!

anyone facing problem that thomson auto rebooting? What 'Kernel warm restart'?
*
bro, many subscriber faces this issue. This seems to be known issue.
I was told by the installer that Maxis Thomson router overheat issue and advise my to get a notebook cooler..Since then, the Maxis Thomson router is rock stable.

Please get a notebook cooler and give it a try. It problem persists, maybe the router issue, complain to Maxis and try to get a replacement router if possible.

Bullshits lah! Maxis guy is also contractor, don't be conned!

Landed property maybe two per day for TM guy, high rise at least 10 a day!

Not that lah, almost all the TM contractor forced to do maxis installation. They refuse to do maxis installation because always got problem especially VoIP phone.

Whereas if they do unifi, everything under their control, easier to fix.

If they do for maxis, they cannot go off until maxis guy sign the form for them.
