ok. installation completed after 90 minutes. i have to say the installers are professional and very straightforward, kudos to them.

speed is as advertised, ping time over wifi isn't that good though, got around 30ms to maxis, u mobile server. (okla not that bad). will have to find my ethernet cable to test over LAN then.

now, how come my torrent isn't blazing fast?

my ping to sgix singapore yielded 195ms just now. not that i really care, but still there is something wrong with the routing.

serious question here, how come my torrents so slow? just now downloaded a file with just 250kBps average speed blink.gif should i port forward? (i'm on private ip though)

btw, i didn't get charged for extra cabling. by my estimates the cabling was at least 25 meters long, but the technicians just wrote down 15m in the form biggrin.gif

just did a switch off/switch on test on the ONT and Thomson, didn't feel like 5 minutes to me, more like 1 to 2 minutes max, more than acceptable to me.

still hasn't managed to get the 1.2 mbps speed for torrent, max speed i got just now was just about 600kbps, oh well...

should i switch to public ip and do proper port forwarding for the torrent?

off to sleep!

guys, just wanna ask.. my bittorrent keep giving me a warning sign saying there is a problem with my router or firewall. but at times, it got show green status. anyone facing this problem? is there aby solution? my download stuck at 200++ kbps only sad.gif
*
I always get that using utorrent at the office, but still the download speed is appropriate. Using maxis i do occasionally get those errors, and i'm not getting 1.2 mbps like most people are.

Once a while, I'm getting this speed over Wifi network (any MHF user here can better this ? tongue.gif).
However. while DL speed test, the meter needle was only hovers around 2 to 3 Mbps range for the 1st half of DL test process and then a sudden burst/spike of speed at the end. (Observe the yellow circle)

10 out of 10 tests, the speed test demonstrated the above behavior, spike of speed towards the end. Anyone can explain this ?  hmm.gif

router bottleneck? (if there is such a thing laugh.gif )

Added on July 12, 2012, 7:03 pmright now i'm averaging 850kBps, oklah tu kot.. although that's the total speed for 3 different torrent files

Added on July 12, 2012, 7:27 pmok finally got my 1.1 mbps torrent speed, no more complaints!

maxis is the best! tongue.gif

TM guy will be late for sure because they are on commission basis, they more they do, the more they get... So they arrange more appointments than they can handle in a day... While the maxis guy is on fixed salary, only two installation per day, plus will be scolded by maxis if late

Whether maxis guy or tm guy, they are contractor actually, except that maxis try to maintain reputation and quality.
*
maxis don't send contractors, they're actual maxis staff.

the tm contractors that came to my house say that they'd only do two installations a day, because there really isn't enough time for them to squeeze in more, what more with problematic installations.

having said that, in no way am i condoning any no-shows or late-comers from either maxis or tm. at least they must have the courtesy to inform.

Bullshits lah! Maxis guy is also contractor, don't be conned!

Landed property maybe two per day for TM guy, high rise at least 10 a day!

Added on July 12, 2012, 11:26 pm

Not that lah, almost all the TM contractor forced to do maxis installation. They refuse to do maxis installation because always got problem especially VoIP phone.

Whereas if they do unifi, everything under their control, easier to fix.

If they do for maxis, they cannot go off until maxis guy sign the form for them.
*
I dont think u know the meaning of 'contractor', do u?

So anyone with custom routers tried using voip adapters yet? With success?

I got questions here.
Can maxis use existing Unifi cabling?
Or need to redo drilling to pull another fiber cable from outside?
*
Yes. With existing cabling u can probably get everything done in half an hour. Provided your installers turn up hoho.

wrong statement... tm contractor must wait until everything is up, especially voip... mine the tm modem got problem, voip cannot connect... nasib baik the maxis guy is v.experience, know it's the tm problem and refuse to sign the form to let the tm guy go... if not, kaput lah my installation

somemore tm guy very rude, insist it's not their problem, keep giving excuses and trying to leave so they can go for 5  more installation.. imagine the time is already 4pm!

i've waited the tm guy for more than 1 hour... never say sorry... some more got problem wanna rush, dun care

Added on July 13, 2012, 6:46 pm

mine no more... but i suspect the firmware upgrade is just to do away with the reporting... because sometimes hang also but not in the event log

seems like we've to live with it as long as we're using this thomson shits!

this maxis very clever, not reporting in the event log so no one making noise.... because when i do ping still got downtime leh
*
Sometimes i wonder why i turn up here to read all these rants. I hope we dont this thread to another rant thread haha.

If anyone here uses a custom router with a voip adaptor, pls show yourself smile.gif

what kind of problems? i'd usually get 1mbps with no port forwarding, just changed the bt.transp_disposition value. although it does take some time to reach that speed.

Hi just a tips to share with you all

I have seperated my TM modem(to fiber cable) and Maxis router with Homeplug (LAN power adaptor) to save the extra charge, since the tmnet hub near my kitchen and I would have my router install in living room.

latency is not really noticeable
*
excellent. would have tried this too had they decided to charge for my 25 meter indoor cable biggrin.gif

ohh ok. so it helps if you have 30 year old walls biggrin.gif

Added on July 15, 2012, 4:15 pmBy the way guys, i also have the "xDSL linestate down" thingy in my event log every 5 minutes or so. Can't say there has been an effect on my connection at all. Torrents work fine at max speed, ping to local servers is good, my dreambox (which needs to connect every 6 seconds) is fine, browsing is quick enough.

So might be the problems with your connection have nothing to do with the xDSL linestate down? Could it be something else? I'm landed btw..

My only problem now is I still haven't been able to register with mylaunchpad haha.. Time to bother the CS girls then!

bro jetwash, with that message, torrent would be fine and not noticeable but when you browsing or loading pages, sometimes you would see interruption or slow in loading the page. For landed, it not too noticeable at it is Fibre all the way into yr home but for those stay in condo, you will notice it more.
*
Yup actually I do notice sometimes it's quite slow to connect during browsing, takes around 20 secs or so. So yeah I too am affected, a quick reload solves the issue, and it's not severe enough to justify forking out for a custom router though.

have you checked whether there's any channel conflict with your neighbours?

although i'd reckon it's a problem with the thomson itself blink.gif
