It looks like somekind of DMZ on thomson. I requested a public IP from Maxis and followed the step in the link. After that I rebooted my PS3 to refresh and noticed that public IP is assigned to my PS3. My games report that I have NAT type 1 !!! Give it a try.

definitely looks like recycled....most likely they are reusing the thomson router that have been replaced from other customers. use until totally die then buy more. There must be some kind of hanky panky going on if they are able to offer such cheap price for 10MB.

Have to escalate to MCMC if we can prove they are providing sub par equipment on purpose

well... ...just a theory....either thomson scamming maxis or maxis scamming us....either way, consumer still getting scammed...there is a case if it can be proved...

If you're connected at 150 (130 or 144 is more likely), then the router is 2 streams capable. If you're connected at 75 (65 or 72), then your wireless card is the drawback because its single stream. This is all for single channel, 20Mhz.

To be connected at dual channel (300), your environment shouldn't have surrounding AP overlap, which almost impossible. That is if it follows the wifi standard, some china and taiwan brand router still violate it.

Danieltay, just a friendly advice lah, don't get me wrong. It'll be good to dial it down a little. I wouldnt say that they kow tow to maxis, but they just found a way to make things work for them.

Some have good experience the service by default, some find that repositioning the router helps, some just replace it and improve their experience. They are not network engineering experts, but just sharing their experience that works for them. But your ranting doesnt really help (with the swearing and cursing and bashing) . One or two post is okay, but almost every post?

We get it you're frustrated, but i've said this once before: this is a technical forum. Ranting all the time is not beneficial technically. There's kopitiam for that.

But do consider that the dedicated IPTV bandwidth costs much lower than a dedicated bandwidth of Internet. The dedicated pipe of IPTV is contained within TM/Maxis network and does not go out to the Internet, Maxis or TM does not have to pay to international bandwidth providers. Consider it like a big LAN for them

With the current infra, I don't think it's a big issue for Maxis nor TM to provide a dedicated pipe for triple play of at least 30Mbps for VDSL (100Mbps is possible if their VDSL equipments can do vectoring) and 100Mbps for Fibre.

That internet pipe is the expensive one. Though I do prefer if they can state the international bandwidth that they can guarantee (to my knowledge, one Singapore ISP does that). At least, they don't keep on saying that 10Mbps is local and international is best effort, feel like they are just washing hands...

oh no no....10Mbps is only for local...u call them and ask, they won't guarantee international link 10Mbps....

yeap, a cheaper option, get your self those high gain/power AP (not router) and connect to the thomson LAN port. I've seen some high gain AP for RM50 in sri comp lowyat, not sure how they perform though.

btw, take note that the packet loss on 2nd IP may not be a big issue. I don't think the 2nd hop is consistently the same IP.

I used pingplotter (there's free version, but the 30 day trial one gives out a nice graph). You'll notice that the 2nd hop IP keeps on changing. Probably load balancing?

have you reboot the thomson after setup using wizard? Installer told me that the admin access will only be allowed after at least one time reboot after setup wizard

International link download speed is not guaranteed? Though I don't seem to have such issue with my torrent download today, no problem to hit 200-300 KBps, if I download 2 or 3 torrent, i max out my 10Mbps line....
If so, maybe routing issue on your connection?

My torrent download seems fine, but my rapidshare isn't it...tested a minute ago, i'm getting only 40KBps...but I did pass the 1meg barrier

when facing the problem, do a tracert and see where the traffic dies. If before 2nd hop, then maybe router issue, if pass the 2nd hop, then most probably network issue. Though VoIP is OK, so most probably network issue.

the problem with maxis is responsiveness of the service...latency, stability still leaves much to be desired..

public wifi can be turned off from the router.
Torrent seems okay, but some users face issue on the performance on direct download sites, such as rapidshare.

From one of the forumers here, seems maxis is doing some maintenance work till end of the month, but don't know if it will solve all these issues. If you are very particular about stability and responsiveness, then I suggest not to switch just yet until the problems are resolved.
