Update: Topic closed, thanks. Lesson to learn is buyer should also double check warranty info before buying. Sometimes it can be genuine mistake by seller, no one wants this situation so double check before transacting.

Hi all,

I would like to seek the opinions of seasoned traders here regarding an issue that I'm facing. I recently bought a used Panasonic camera from another forum-er, in which his original post states, and I quote "Warranty: still have 8 month". We met up for COD last Tuesday 19 June and everything checks out ok, and the warranty card has the purchase date in Jan 2011, and based on a 2 year warranty, then yes there is about 7-8 months of warranty left.

Here's the issue -> I checked with Panasonic on Wednesday this week (8 days after trade), and they informed me that the camera is no longer under warranty - reason given is because the camera was not registered with them. Apparently for Panasonic cameras, standard warranty is 1 year but if you register online with them, you get an additional year which means 2 years in total. There is no way to register the camera now to get the 2 year warranty. I do not think that seller is providing the 'wrong' info on purpose, giving him benefit of the doubt, he might have thought it's 2 years warranty without needing to register online (or the original shop might have told him that).

Here's the problem -> if the camera is out of warranty, I would not even be interested to trade in the first place. Note that the camera itself is working fine, no problems but I traded only because I was told the camera is still under warranty for 8 months.

So I would like to ask for opinions from gurus here, what do you think I should do?

1. Contact seller, explain the above, and request for a full refund/cancellation of the deal. Seller should refund.
2. Bite the bullet, nothing can be done too bad so sad. Seller don't need to refund.

I have the original lowyat post in PDF format and have the seller details. I would just like to seek other forumers opinion before deciding further course of action.

Appreciate any constructive advice or suggestions.

Many thanks in advanced!

LAW-based action
he's wrong, all wrong, HE should have checked the warranty beforehandd (just like Canon printers, 1+2 online warranty, no activate no warranty), and he failed.... it's "argueable"
Pay FULL!, if nt willing to... Dispute Forum is just a CLICK away~

Partially law action (If you still want the camera)
Make this a case for him under dispute, ask him to refund you with "some funds" as it's no longer under warranty... like 10-20% off the value so therefore when it brokes down you have the extra cash to repair... smile.gif

Goodwill Action, where i highly doubt most people will do, but it's just my speculation
Just Inform Buyer that for this product register required online to get extended warranty, if he's a considerate person he will just say sorry, and case closed...
if he's a good person he may refund a little as apology, and take it as case solved.

Ignorance Action
Close this thread and pretend nothing happens smile.gif
