i really feel this nexus 7 seems much more steps and abit more complicated compared to my previous device.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
need to download a PC software, damn...its 130MB, so big!

http://www.androidnz.net/2012/07/how-to-ro...ur-nexus-7.html
heres another guide.

need to worry about the drivers on installation if using 64bit windows,

and by reading the comments, seems cant enter cwm recovery by button combo, weird

oh my, this may be my most challenging rooting experience yet.
anyone here already rooted?

by the way TS didnt update first page with rooting method and links?

Use the Nexus toolkit - is fast , simple and easy. Only file download size is bigger than normal. Tons of stuffs you can do with it - mainly just select n click.  Similar to G Nexus
Way much simpler than rooting Samsung series phones
*
really? samsung one seems very short already wor.
my previous experience was sgs2, download odin (so small size), and CF root kernal (so small size), flash, done.
galaxy tab10.1, same odin, flash cwm, flash a zip to root, done.
if N7 is easier than cool.

maybe the instructions are longer and its actually easier than it seems. tongue.gif
thanks, your comment is very reassuring.

wohoo!

got my device and successfully rooted!

uncle benny, the rooting part is easy, its the installing driver part that is problematic.

i tried twice only succeed. then the rooting is automated. total time spent, 45 mins. (ok i'm a noob)

Added on August 1, 2012, 8:01 pmthe box is so easy to open and unbox. the sticker, just peel from the side, the cover, just hold it up right, and the box will fall down gently. duno why all the people struggle in the unboxing video.

maybe newer batch is easier to unbox? no idea....

will be waiting for your guide. first time android user here...

btw, why do we unlock the bootloader before rooting?

Part 1: Unlocking Bootloader
Part 2: “Making ClockworkMod Recovery Permanent”
Part 3: Gaining Root Access

got these excerpts from redmondpie.. what  does every part here means? part 3.. means it's rooted already?
*
you have the nexus?

go donwload the nexus rooting toolkit from xda.
its really simple. the whole process about 10 minutes only.

i stuck very long at the driver installation part.
maybe cos i'm using win7 64bit

everything is automated, no need worry, really fool proof.

Haha, flash done.

Next is getting full tablet UI.
This weird hybrid UI is terrible.

The on screen buttons are way too big.
Especially in landscape mode. Almost 20% of the screen.

Wohoooo....
Tablet UI. Support home screen rotation.
Damn easy. No need flash anything.

Download and install ROM Toolbox Lite
Launch app.
Go to Performance and press the build.prop editor.
Locate the line with “ro.sf.lcd_density.”
Change the DPI to 175 or below.
Reboot and done!

I said no need enter recovery n flash zip files.

I already have root.

Using from toolbox, you no need download text editor, find the build prop in system, edit etc
Just directly edit within the app. Its that simple. smile.gif

That is new latest backup format. bulk of your backup data is in folder blobs. delete any backup from recovery mode so that related blobs data also deleted
*
??? rclxub.gif

what are you talking about?

ok, before i upgrade the cwm using rom manager,
i made one cwm backup.
its in a folder wich is 1GB+, seems normal.

after upgrade cwm,
the new backup folder is 20MB only
and a blob folder which is 1GB appear.

so what should i do now?
you mean the blob+20MB folder is the new cwm style?
its normal and i should just leave it?

the old backup 1GB+ folder how? need delete?

Google voice search is not as good n accurate as I think. It does make mistakes also.

And it needs internet to work.
Offline voice typing works,

But if you want to ask it to set alarm, reminder, timer etc, need internet

Just want to ask why this tablet is selling like RM 950++(8GB) and RM 1150++(16GB)? OMG... =.=! Overcharging...?

I give up for the price already...  doh.gif
*
Its still cheaper than other quad core tablet. Even after taxed by dealers.
Frankly speaking first gen android tablet are based on tegra 2, which is a sad failure.

Samsung tab 7.7 is exynos which is great but slow update.
And expensive. And bloated wit touch wiz.

Asus transformer 300, prime, and infinity are good, wit the keyboard combo its excellent, but the price is insane. Close to 2k.

So I wouldn't complain bout the nexus 7 price.
Same performance at a smaller size.

Nice to hold and carry around.

Added on August 3, 2012, 7:39 ampreviously i Said that all Chinese words appear as "?"

I am mistaken.
The files are copied from pen drive using USB otg, so the words got converted to ??
Nexus itself is able to type n read both modern n traditional Chinese.

Added on August 3, 2012, 8:12 amWhile looking for casing in garage sales,
I saw this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...0845&hl=nexus+7

Impressive. So much ready stock for nexus 7, no need to wait.
Price same as preorder too.
Maybe extra abit, but no need to wait n direct cod is quite good.

Just got my Nexus 7 yesterday from ipmart sent by taqbin.
I ordered on Tuesday night when the price is still RM1099 and the warranty is 12 months.
Love the size and screen but the USB cable given is too short and the charger is US pin(Have to buy adapter)..smile.gif
*
You have voltage regulator or not?
If got don't need converted. Can directly plug in.

Actually nothing special bout this charger, output is 5v 2A.
Same as other android tablet charger. U can use Samsung tablet charger.

By the way pic snap using nexus camera. The quality equally suck like iPad 2. Haha.

how about acer a510? value for money, RM1200+
*
cannot just see for price only.

the actual tab is one of the heaviest i've seen. at 680g

for reference
ipad2 601
ipad3 652
tab 10.1 560g.

at that weight, its really really uncomfortable to hold.
apart from that, look at reviews, a510 screen is terrible, very very pale and washed out.
its just regular tft lcd, not IPS display, you might not mind the weight, but i'm very sure you will notice the pale and ugly color.

what kind of usb hub you using?
*
Just a standard USB hub that I bought 6 years ago I think.
Its one of the first usb2 hub.

Any USB hub will work.
However using it together wit mouse is not advisable
I found the keyboard less responsive when mouse is plugged in.
Maybe not enough power.

Nw I just use the keyboard only.

actually i bought the acer A510 last week because i was unable to find a nexus 7 locally and just tired of waiting. the screen is not terrible and pale like you say, it might not be as vivid as a IPS screen, but it is not pale and ugly, the colour is more natural compared to IPS (TF300) which is too vivid IMO.

the only problem is the weight, which for some is too heavy, for me, it is ok as i hold it with both hands.
not trying to compare nexus 7 and a510 but i think a510 is a worthy substitute if you cant find nexus 7.

it have stereo speaker (good audio quality), 32gb+micro SD slot, usb on the go support (comes with the cable and works fine with my WD external hardisk). everything runs smoothly.

and the a510 is heavy because it have a 9800mah battery which give me 2 days of moderately-heavy use.

Added on August 3, 2012, 4:53 pm
does this means nexus 7 will be available officially in Malaysia soon? drool.gif
*
You obviously never try amoled screen before,

I'm used to amoled on galaxy s2
Every time I look back at nexus after I reply a SMS on my s2
Feel its screen very washed out. And pale

When I look at the iconia its like black n white screen to me.
Some phones like atrix, sensation, really bad, even tough their resolution higher, but the colors are terrible.

Maybe
