hello everyone, new runner reporting in here, can i join LYN runners and be number 126?

fairly new to running, only started running regularly and more seriously 3 months back in april, when i signed up for scklm 10km, which was only the 2nd proper event run i've ever been in

still remember my very 1st one, putrajaya night marathon 2011, which i joined for 10k without training at all, thinking playing badminton once a week back then should be enough...only to finish it in a whopping 93mins lol, had to jog/walk/limp my way to the finish line

anyway i'm based in kepong, so would tend to run around that area on weekdays, would be glad to know any kaki here to run together.
however on weekends i do like to venture out a bit and run at different parks, so far i've been to most of the parks around kl, looking for more!

rm65 eh? feels a little pricey heh, will have to save up for it haha

where do you guys run and do your weekly LSD?

i just ran 4 rounds at tmn met kepong on saturday, my longest run thus far at 13.8km...legs not used to it man, sore like hell after heh

do you guys use any app to track? i started with endomondo at first, but pisses me off after a while when i couldn't amend the route easily if the GPS goes haywire, on runkeeper then, and now looking at dailymile

do you guys still run even if the muscles feel sore? for example 1 or 2 days after a long run, while your muscles still ache and you still have a run

i had a rather long run on saturday (long for my standard, about 14km), and left thigh was sore the next few days, but i still ran lol, some i had to run quite slowly as it was rather painful, some were ok after a while.

wonder if it's a wise thing to do or i should wait until the muscle completely feels fine before the next run

during those time, i go for a swim or il just walk the distance....since im in the gym, they have a hot water jacuzzi...so i'll sit in there and let the muscle rest for sometime also.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
ya i think i'll start doing cross training, swimming ftw! except i suck at swimming =(

2nd Run:
I joined the Athlete's Circle training circuit in front of Amcorp mall, we did some speed work on that day. Din really run fast because my dinner is too heavy and I still feel bloated from the dinner. Did around 3x650m for warm up follow buy 3x800m with recovery jog in between. I am wearing it sockless this time to test the line seaming in the shoe.
*
eh you were there yesterday? me too! who were you?

QUOTE(leanman @ Jul 26 2012, 08:35 AM)
after a long run or LSD, its followed by a recovery run, best within 24-48 hrs. you can either brisk walk or slow jog. this would help your sore muscle. what is the real benefit of recovery run, try google for it.
*
well google says a recovery run doesn't really help with recovery, but rather helps build stamina and fitness
i'm just a little concerned with running when the muscle's still sore, but i've been doing it already anyway lol

Hi! Can I join the club? :-)

I've been an on & off runner since last year, and recently got serious in it after joining the Standard Chartered run.

Normally I jog at TTDI park, sometimes around my housing area.

My old Adidas just died on me, and I just got a pair of Saucony Guide 5... plan to test run this friday...
*
i run at kiara park quite often too, whenever i have kaki there haha, maybe we can run together some time

y even 5 months of jogging, 1 week at least 3 times, there isnt any improvement much.

10k @ 55min, cant get to 50min. folo google 10k in 40min, but cant......

height 163cm, weight 60kg. do i need to go gym o eat more protein?

do intervel and tempo n easy run, but sometimes cant due to rain ,but 1 week at least 3 times to 5 times run, doesnt seem to improve my time. any solution?
*
QUOTE(mimi89 @ Aug 14 2012, 11:56 AM)
after 6 months of jogging, my best record is 10.4 km (klcc park 8 laps) in 54 min 15 sec, roughly need 52 min for 10km.

I spent 2 months to boost the 10.4km record from 58 min to 54 min 15 sec. After this , it really hard to shorten the time. i tin I need another 3 or 4 months training to finish 10.4km within 52 min.

I would suggest you try to shorten the time required to finish 5km. ur body need to familiar with the fast pace, at 1st, my pace is 6 min/km, then 5.30 min/km, now trying to maintain at 5.15 min/km.

height 168cm, weight 60kg.
*
same here! after running 55mins for SCKLM in June, my time hasn't improved since =(
also mimi89 i've got the same height and weight as you haha

I've been doing all my runs on the treadmill lately and would love to go run outdoors but I'm worried about running in the haze.
*
been running despite the haze, but it isn't as bad as the week before SCKLM so not too bad, i even ran during then, tried running with the mask on but took it off after being out of breath lol

Now lucky I haven't dump that RM500 on their shoes.

Will be trying Adidas, or maybe Brooks la. Any other brand to recommend ah? lol.
*
i got a Lunarglide 3 from the Nike warehouse sale, it was cheap, and so far so good in using it.
then again i'm not pro enough to even differentiate the difference between various shoes lol.

QUOTE(doinkz_gaara @ Sep 10 2012, 06:12 PM)

*
you can always measure the distance using Google Maps, just turn on the labs function of measuring tool.

i ran KOTR 16.8km and i didn't stop at all for any water, it's my first time running so far in a race heh, guess i just find it too hard to drink or even sip while running, and too kiasu to stop lol.

using nike free 4.0 now, think mayb it is more suitable for my running style compared to dual fusion, yday achieved a timing of 52 min 23 sec for 10.4km, which is nearly 5min/km throughout whole run. before this best time for 10.4km is 54 min like tat for 2 weeks.
*
you're fast, are you in the LYNR fb group?

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Sep 13 2012, 10:41 AM)
To achieve that, runners are running at < 6 min per km.

Can gurus share how to achieve that?

My usual time is 7 min per km, running at ease pace. I eagerly want to improve my timing. unsure.gif
*
i remember my very first run was a 7.5min pace for less than 5km, lol damn unfit back then, and that was 5 months ago.
i never really did all the interval trainings or hill repeats or whatnot, all i did was pushed myself each time i ran, whatever the route was, whether flat or hilly, i think on average in the past 5 months i ran about 3-4 times each week, with an average distance of 5-6km each time, i'm pretty sure with this amount of training you will improve your time to 6min pace, the keyword here is you have to PUSH yourself in your runs.

my 2 cents, others probably have better and more structured training plans, i'm just too lazy to follow those haha.

SCKLM has by far the worst goodie bag i've seen, it's the biggest running event in Malaysia and all you get is a bag with a Colgate toothpaste, Salonpas patch and a Titan watch catalogue -__-

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Sep 13 2012, 08:40 PM)

Slight improvements, manage to do 6:37 min per km.

Dear Gurus, how to overcome abdomen/muscle pain during the run? Especially after you do a sprint.

And how to prevent it?
*
if it's side stitches i've been told it's all about your breathing, the pain originates from diaphragm spasm, breathing in and out deep and with a rhythm might help.

there already is a file of members list in the fb group, just gotta look for it and edit, but it's outdated.

QUOTE(tenno @ Sep 18 2012, 02:37 PM)
We wanted to do this for quite sometime edi... sorta like cleaning up the namelist la.. becoz not everybody from LYN is a member of the LYNR FB, & likewise, not everybody in LYNR FB is a member here. LYNR FB is more active of course, but we started here, so it's only natural that this thread is maintained. We did propose that whoever's from here must join LYNR FB & vice versa. The admin's different though. So, until we clear this up, this is the way it's gonna be.

Another option is to retain this thread as purely a runner's thread for LYN only, meaning, no affiliation, no membership, no nothing... membership stuff can go to LYNR FB. I'm open to suggestions. On my part, even as TS for this thread, I've only been to a few of LYNR gatherings & weekend runs.
*
well a lot of the members in the FB group ain't LYN users, ya i suggest keeping the membership stuff to LYNR FB, and keep only active members hehe, whereas this thread is free for all.

normal armbands aren't water resistant, the first one i bought was a normal one from a shop (pricey stuff...bought in a rush), and it basically becomes wet after every run...but so far iphone still ok despite getting damp each time.

now i'm using armpocket and it's water resistant, slightly bulkier but can put more stuff in it like cards or keys, got it at rm100 but it's worth it i think.
