Hi Lyn piggies, I've always wondered if I should get a pair of guinea pigs. When I'm studying I don't have the money, now that I'm working, I'm afraid I don't have time. I work from 9-6pm. Is guinea pig suitable for me? Can they be left that long? I have a dog too BTW.

QUOTE(emino @ Dec 26 2018, 07:22 AM) If you're getting a pair its fine. Else no. GP are a very social creature, they need constant companionship be it you or their own kind. Also will your dog bark a lot? GPs are easily startled and can suffer heart attack (serious woi) so barking might stress them out. Nope, my dog rarely barks at all. My dog will be outside the house and I plan to keep the GPs in the living room. Is it better if the GPs keep in my room? Scared smelly and noisy la. Plan to get a pair of sows.

QUOTE(yadea @ Dec 27 2018, 06:18 PM) Guinea pigs are normally very quiet creatures, often the only sound u hear from them is when their on plastic and they start scratching their body. This only applies when its not feeding time where they will yell the lungs out to get attention. Regarding smell, as long as u dont have irritation to hay and u clean the cages often then it should be ok. Thanks yadea. How often do you clean the cage? I saw in YouTube they clean it daily with fleece as bedding. I don't think I have the time. I just ordered 2 GPs (1 American, 1 Abby) and am preparing their cage. Planning to DIY. Anyone have experience keeping their GPs on artificial grass mats that we can find from home stores?
